How to Make Friends with ADHD, PART 2 : • Making the Journey to ...
Making friends is not as easy as the world wishes it was. True story, I used to hide out in the library to avoid recess. Lots of ADHD kids did things like this to avoid the awkwardness of being picked last for the team or left out entirely. Unfortunately, when kids avoid learning how to make friends when they’re younger (or it’s just really, really hard because they are stuck with super uncool people) the skill of making friends is embedded.
What I mean by this is that the little things we do to tell someone we’re interested in being friends, or that we have a common interest or reason to hang out with them is “new” to us. So as we get older, making friends becomes harder. At 5 or 6, everyone is kinda new at making friends. At 18 or 25, people often have a lot of experience at it. That means if you’re like me and kinda awkward in the friendship department, at a certain point in your life, it’s harder for even more reasons than it was when you were 5.
That’s why I’m so invested in teaching people how to do this. Making friends is the answer to many challenges in your life. It’s an answer to big things like loneliness and belonging, and it’s a partial answer to things like fitting in, identity and community.
This video is part one of a series on how to make friends as an adult with ADHD. In it, I mention a tool to help you. I call it “Demystify Making Friends” and it’s free if you want a little help and support learning how to make friends as an adult.

Going to share this to X, Twitter. All of this makes sense. Also, I had not realized you’d been at this or married for so long. You are aging wonderfully and to be clear, this is a compliment. ❤

Hi Caroline! Loving the content, found you through Jessica's channel :) You said a few videos ago you're looking for content suggestions; I have pretty intense adhd and so does my closest friend. He's someone who has a lot of trouble responding to texts, calls, or really any form of communication, whereas I'm always responsive if something is pressing. We're both equally important in each other's lives, but in order to get in touch with him for something urgent, I've had to (for instance) physically show up at his door in order to get a response. This unreliability is something that the majority of people in his life experience from him, sometimes it bothers him but other times it doesn't. He chalks it up to his ADHD, and while I get how that can lead to this, I've never seen anyone else be impacted this much by it. We both love each other to death, and when we're together we're inseparable and have so much fun. The issue isn't our friendship, but I guess my question is; Would you have any advice on how to make the experience of our friendship better for us, in regards to his unreliability? From tips and tricks to a mindset shift, all is welcome! I don't know if this fits into a broader topic, it's very okay if this doesn't make it into a video. Thanks for reading regardless :) and thanks for the content! Keep it up!

I am absolutely loving your videos. So helpful! Thank you! (I love the lists too!) Feedback on the editing: I find for me it's almost impossible to read and listen at the same time. Am I the only one? Anyway, what if you provided a moment of silence to give viewers some time to read the writing or maybe read the writing to us? Or something? Please don't mind the feedback. Your videos are great! I learn stuff about how to socialize and how I socialize now (I recognize the traits and go "I do that") and you have good ideas for how to grow. Thank you so much, once again!
