I appreciate this so much. I am a 50 year old bikini competitor NQ…and I also work a 50 hour week. My stress increases and I get inflamed when I train more than 4 days a week. Volume focused really increases my inflammation

Well Greg Doucette always said, "how hard? Harder than last time" always thought he was talking about reactions to viagra. You guys definitely got valid points. Appreciate everything you all do

I remember when I was in my late teens and early 20's I used think the more I would punish myself, the better it was. It would absolutely destroy myself every time i would go to the gym. Funny enough, I barely made gains. I take a more chill approach now; listen to my body more; and low and behold I see better results now.

@@jayredmon3769 I was watching one of Andrew Huberman's podcast and i learned it is due to testosterone men do this. Testosterone makes us enjoy pain. We like to suffer because it makes us feel like a reward is on the horizon if we suffer. The whole "no pain, no gain" axiom comes from that I suppose.

Harder does not nessescarily mean Harder in terms of intensity but, more reps, better teqchnique, better connection. A easy/dumbed down way of saying "progressive overload"

@@OleMariusHovind yes I'm aware of that. Just adding some Coach Greg humor in here because it was a perfect opportunity to add it.

I've only been exercising for 3 years but I must agree that I mainly exercise because it makes me mentally feel amazing. That's actually why I started in the first place and that's actually why I keep doing it. Plus there's a little bit of a guilty feeling, I've been making so much progress over the 3 years that the thought of backtracking hurts. I put all this time and energy into this for what ? just to stop doing it and give up ? Nah, I'm good. There is no giving up at this point. I've come so far there is no going back. Sometimes all you need to do is make a little bit of progress to keep you motivated. Because at the very least you have to maintain the progress you already achieved. I don't know personally that helps me though.

I was the same as you. I've only been working out for a year and a half and I'm 16. I weigh 140lbs at 6ft and I started eating at 1700 calories and working out 7 days a week for an hour straight full body 7 sets. Since I was working out so much the thought of working out less would also hurt me lol. But now I do 7 sets Monday Tuesday Thursday and Friday. 4 sets on Wednesday and only 1 set on weekend days. Now I'm also eating 2600 calories and building more muscle faster than I did before. Trust its probably worth it

Omg I am so excited about how the guy in the middle with the gray hair at 5:00 mins 1. Understands that working out that intensely will only damage the body and not lead to gains or benefits (like the guy on the right with the red hat seems to think for some awful reason) and 2. Is actively defending that training that hard will only make you hurt by “arguing” with the guy in the red hat, arguing meaning responding with a rebuttle of sorts that confirms what he said was incorrect. I love that too much lol I’m screaming at my phone at dude in the red hat like no bro you don’t see the scale drop fast with that you get hurt with that…. Lol that anyways… That clip was actually hard to watch, idk why anyone would say that looks motivating. Anyone with a brain and respect for women and understanding of fitness to any degree has a hard time watching this, as the guy in the middle with the gray hair awesomely seems to understand. I have too much respect for that guy doing this!!!!!!! 💯💯💯💯💪🏽🙏🏽

If you do this every workout, it's terrible but you should do something similar every once in a while to actually see how much your body can take and what actual failure is. It's a lot easier to go too easy and stay below minimum effective volume and intensity than to go above maximum recoverable volume and intensity, most should not worry about going too hard

Pushing yourself to hard does happen though. Personally I start to feel like it's very hard to sleep at night. That's usually the first indication that I've been pushing myself too hard. That actually happened at the beginning of last week so I ended up taking 4 days off. Usually I'll just stop exercising until I'm able to sleep again if this does occur, which usually only takes a few days to revert back to normal. Every once in awhile this definitely happens to me though.

What that lady was having her do is not what exercise is. That isn’t even lifting to failure lol that’s just actual body damage

Yea but him and mike mentzer taught to train to failure. Only one set each exercise and recover a couple of days and rinse and repeat. So it’s really not that bad. I train hit and it works

I feel like sending this message, “training too hard is not necessary” is dangerous for lazy people that workout twice a week and say more than that is excessive.

And for a woman mane like I doubt women have the brain built for that amount of cortisol and stress as men do (I’ve heard women may recover from sets faster than men), which explains the crying… That’s just ridiculous to do anything incorrect to any human
