I get asked often, if God loves me, why would he send me (anyone) to hell. Well, he won’t, hell is our choice, and this often comes from a misunderstanding of Gods mercy.

God is a person with a gun pointed at your head. “Hell” is them pulling the trigger. “Salvation” is them not. As the hostage, you either “love and worship” the person with the gun for all eternity, with blind obedience, and live, or you’ve “forced” them to kill you. That’s the choice the religious has postulated. Does it sound like a free choice?

This video came at the right time for me... Yet, there´s a few dangers here and I´m having trouble balancing them out: the first is having mercy become a license for relativism. "Everything you do is OK because God will have your back" kind of attitude. The other danger is being so forgiving of oneself that you mistake your own permissivity with God´s mercy. This can practically become an abolition of the pursuit of holiness. Treading the path between these excesses is the narrow way indeed... Hard to do. Hope yall succeed brothers and sisters. Please pray for me, God bless!

That implies that we have the agency over our decisions to avoid doing wrong. It’s a perspective that conveniently ignores the effects of one’s personal experiences, genetics, culture, etc on their own decision making. It implies that all action comes from a place of knowing and understanding and that every human knows when they’re doing wrong. The path to hell is paved with good intentions, but how does an average person separate good intentions from absolute good? How does one achieve a level of consciousness that could bring about awareness of the effects our actions have on others? Hell to me is like the boogie man. A tale told to keep us in line. A truly loving and altruistic god wouldn’t need to threaten us with an eternity of torture. Hell doesn’t exist on some separate plane. It is here. We create it.

there are 4 words translated as "hell" in the Bible, 2 in the O.T and 2 in the new. In the O.T the words are "Ghenna" and Sheol. Ghenna was a place outside JerUSAlem where they would burn their refuse and occasionally the body of a dead criminal who had no one to see to his remains. Sheol means the grave/place of darkness. In the N,T the words are Hades which is also a place of the dead/grave and the last is Tartaroos meaning a place of restraint where satan is. there is no fire in the grave, only in the lake of fire at the end which is reserved for satan and his demons but if you chose to go, you go.

Remember--God loves us so much and desires us to have a genuine, loving, and obedient relationship with Him. After getting deeper into my Catholic faith, I learned that to love God means that we should also *want* to obey Him out of that love for Him...He is our all-loving and all-merciful Father & Creator! We all sin unfortunately...but it's important that after we fall, we show genuine sorrow and have a firm resolve to sin no more...If Catholic, it is very important to go to confession with contrite hearts to receive God's forgiveness, cleansing, and mercy (especially if we are in mortal sin). We must ask God with childlike trust and humility for His Grace to grow. God bless!

@@g1azes If you will, please hear me out I guess haha. Jesus obviously is God, and He came down from Heaven and dwelt among us. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”" (Matthew 16:18-19). So here, we see that God Himself is establishing a visible Church with a hierarchy, and He’s giving this Church the ability to teach definitively through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Going back to early Christianity, this was called the “Catholic Church” and is the same Catholic Church that exists today. All the other thousands of denominations we see didn’t emerge until at least 1,500 years later. So ultimately, 1. Jesus is God 2. He established one visible Church for His believers to be a part of 3. He gave this Church the ability to bind/loose & teach definitively 4.This Church is guided by the Holy Spirit and 5. This Church still exists today, the Catholic Church.

@@a.r.4093 Hey, thanks for replying, I have a question though, why do catholics pray to Mary/saints, where does Jesus state to do that? The Bible’s answer: No. The Bible shows that we should pray only to God, in Jesus' name. Jesus told his disciples: “This is how you are to pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.” (Matthew 6:9) Never did he instruct his disciples to pray to saints, angels, or anyone other than God. Jesus also told his followers: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) Only Jesus is authorized by God to intercede on our behalf.-Hebrews 7:25. What if I pray to God and also pray to saints? As part of the Ten Commandments, God said: “I, the LORD, your God, am a jealous God.” (Exodus 20:5) God demands that acts of allegiance or worship-including prayer-be directed exclusively to him.-Isaiah 48:11. We offend God if we pray to anyone else, even to saints or holy angels. When the apostle John tried to worship an angel, the angel stopped him by saying: “Don’t! I am a fellow servant of yours and of your brothers who bear witness to Jesus. Worship God.”-Revelation 19:10 I love you ❤

In an era where religious discourse is often marred by unchallenged dogmas, it becomes imperative to scrutinize the notions that have long been held sacrosanct. A recent argument positing the boundless mercy of a divine being warrants such scrutiny. Proponents of this view paint a picture of a God who embodies forgiveness to such an extent that even the gravest sins are absolved. However, this portrayal, upon closer examination, reveals a landscape riddled with contradictions, moral ambiguities, and a disconcerting lack of empirical grounding. Firstly, the inherent contradiction in the portrayal of God as both infinitely merciful and the architect of eternal damnation cannot be overstated. The concept of hell, a cornerstone in many religious doctrines, starkly contrasts with the idea of a merciful deity. It’s intellectually dishonest to venerate a God who is simultaneously a benevolent forgiver and a creator of an everlasting realm of punishment. This dichotomy is not just a minor theological inconsistency; it’s a fundamental flaw that undermines the very foundation of this argument. Moreover, the notion of divine forgiveness, as presented, poses serious ethical questions. If any transgression, regardless of its severity, can be wiped clean by divine absolution, what becomes of human moral responsibility? Such a concept reduces ethical living to a game of cosmic leniency, where actions, no matter how vile, are inconsequential in the face of divine forgiveness. This perspective does not elevate morality; rather, it trivializes it, rendering our ethical choices and their repercussions meaningless. Furthermore, the argument suffers from a critical lack of empirical support. The existence of God, let alone a God of such specific attributes, remains an unsubstantiated claim within the realm of empirical inquiry. In any other field, claims made without evidence are rightly met with skepticism, if not outright dismissal. Yet, religious discourse often escapes such scrutiny, allowing assertions of grandeur and benevolence to persist unchallenged. This exemption from empirical validation not only undermines intellectual integrity but also perpetuates a narrative that is not grounded in observable reality. Finally, the depiction of God as an all-forgiving entity must be recognized as a product of centuries-old religious indoctrination. This portrayal serves more as a psychological salve and a tool for social control than as a reflection of an empirical truth. It is a construct, shaped by human fears, desires, and the perennial quest for meaning. To uncritically accept this portrayal is to surrender to a narrative crafted by human hands, not divinely ordained. In conclusion, the argument of a merciful and forgiving God, when subjected to critical examination, unravels, revealing a tapestry of philosophical and moral shortcomings. It is incumbent upon us to approach such claims with the rigor and skepticism they warrant. We must not shy away from questioning, doubting, and demanding evidence for assertions that shape so much of human thought and society. As Hume aptly stated, and as I find myself reiterating, it is wise to proportion belief to the evidence.

I understand I was that same, your forgiveness is a brilliant thing! But at the same time you must also value yourself and to know your true worth, I don't know who this person is or what they may have done to you but best thing, the absolute best thing you can do is forgive them once more and then just walk away, separate yourself from them, that is the only way forward any other way would just lead to destruction, whether it be yours, theirs or both.

Here are my thoughts; is hell a merciful decision to create? God is merciful, yes, under the premise of the pre-existing conditions that he has created. I can also be called a merciful man for not beating my cat to death, if it was something actually considerable to me. So my question is, is sending a temporal being into an ocean of infinite pain for all eternity a merciful thing, no matter the conditions? Even if the being begs to be thrown in there I question whether it would be a merciful thing to agree and let it happen. Note that I am a devout Christian now becoming Catholic, and despite all of my incredible experiences with God these thoughts still linger at the back of my head.

Amen man, and welcome aboard. There is much debate on this as Im sure you are aware. The way I look at it is like the child who rejects his mother. The mother has her arms open wide to the child no matter what he has done, but the child continues to reject her. If he dies, he dies in a state of separation from his mother. She is devastated. And as much as it kills her, she holds his freedom.

Im a recent Catholic convert myself and I often have the same type of questions. Here´s what helped me so far: Thomas Aquinas and many other doctors of the Church would define evil, not as something positive, but as something negative, the lack of something. In this light, we can´t say God "created" hell. Hell is the result of rejecting the good things that are from God. Also, hell may be thought of as a place of suffering, but Tradition also understands it as a state of the soul. The catechism itself uses this language. This makes a lot more sense to me. You are not "sent" somewhere. That place is within you. If a man feels that his wife is "distant" though they live under the same roof, it doesn´t mean that she is literally at a greater geographical distance from him. This distance is a spiritual distance, it´s all in the heart. God is like a universal tuning fork and we are like strings that need to be tuned into that frequency - except instead of sound, the frequency is love and forgiveness. When we arrive on the other side, we may be out of tune. If we don´t care about tuning ourselves to God and we just want to go our way and play our own song, that´s hell. It´s a state of our souls, which is not the result just of what we do, but of the decision to reject God in our hearts. The last thing I´d like to say, and which really made me click, is this: God created us out of love, and He wants us to love Him back and be united with him. Now, love can only be voluntary. You can´t force someone to love. That´s implied in the very nature of love. Love is only truly love as long as it´s freely given. This is why freedom is the whole reason why we were created. If the whole point is love, the whole point is freedom. If we don´t have freedom to reject God, we don´t have freedom to love Him either. Which makes hell a necessary consequence of the whole equation. What I´m struggling with right now is understanding what it means for the suffering to be "eternal". It can´t mean "every day forever", since time as we perceive it now will probably be perceived differently when we´re dead or resurrected. It might be some sort of endless present moment, a changeless state. I´m still searching for clues regarding this. Hopefully something I said was helpful, cheers and God bless you my friend.

In loving relationship, the relationship cant work through force. God loves us enough to let us make our own choices and gives us an option to be with him. We have to make that choice God... or not. Love is something that is freely given by free will. With out free will we cant love, we would be just robots. God lets us learn to love who he is or hate him... and if you hate him then you love evil as the bible says. People who love evil can dwell in evil forever AKA, Hell.

Great video, imbeggar. As a Sikh, who's heavily researched into Christianity and Islam. Christianity has always seemed a beautiful religion to me, the love that emanates off of the New Testament, to be frank, has brought me ( a normally quite stoic person ), to the verge of tears. However, I know many Christians who tell me that, even despite the relationship with God that I try to nurture on my own path (not that that makes me less or more deserving of hell than others) , I am eternally damned to suffer. That goes at odds with what I've seen. Some tell me otherwise and it's the first question I often ask religious people as I feel like the answer given can give a lot of things away about a person. Love the videos and this is a really interesting perspective. Having been in God's light, I don't want to leave, an eternity without God, because I chose the wrong religion, is the most scary thing I've ever heard. I should forgive others how I would want to be forgiven, thank you for bringing that to my attention.

This didn't really answer the question. For me, it's not that God will send you to hell, it's that he does so for ETERNITY, so that negates the idea of a love and mercy that is always there. There's a time based statute of limitations on it, for a God that transcends time. I cannot reconcile this. I think most of the world is corrupt, or rather the people in it, and I'm not against hell in theory, but the way it is 'administered' does not make sense within the rules of God's own game that he created. Furthermore, why does Satan torture bad people forever ? Its not God doing that once a soul is cast asunder, allegedly. Shouldn't he make use of these evil rebels to carry out his plans against God instead is that's his whole purpose? Almost seems like old Satan and his hell is just a guantanamo bay of sorts for God's business model, and they need each other. Where would people go if Satan said, and pardon the pun, "to hell with this" and chose forgiveness and humility? Is it possible for hell to ever close its doors one day within this whole idea of the afterlife? You said that God would forgive the devil himself who literally presides over evil, but not one other soul that made their way to hell? I do not understand this. God, it seems, has made things so damned difficult and painful for me to just believe in him, no matter how hard I have tried and suffered in my life, while still trying to be good.

While I see the merit in the uplifting message of this video, there is a problem regarding how sin and God's forgiveness are discussed here. Yes, God's nature is perfect love and mercy, but He is also perfectly just and righteous. And as a perfectly righteous judge, He absolutely cannot tolerate sin. He abhors it. He despises it. Sin cannot be allowed to exist in His domain. And since we are fallen, sinful creatures due to Adam and Eve's disobedience in the Garden, we deserve the divine punishment of eternal hell. But since God desires mercy and reconciliation with his children, He sent His son Jesus to bear the full weight of our sins on Himself at the Cross on Calvary. Our Salvation from eternal death is purchased for us through the shed blood of our Lord Jesus and is now offered as a free gift. All one needs to do is repent and believe that Jesus Christ is the true Son of God, and is Lord. Amen?
