It's sad how Yularen died on the Death Star, all he ever wanted was to get rid of corruption. He was very loyal to both the Republic and to Palpatine before the Empire came into power. Sadly, he never saw the lies through Emperor.

@@briansmith2739 He really had faith in the Empire for it to become a superior governing system that will provide citizens of the galaxy a better life than Republic ever could just like many who also served the Republic and then shifted their loyalty to the Empire when the governing body changed, a faith which blinded them from seeing the truth that it was really just one man pulling the strings in order to gain the ultimate centralized power all for himself. After all the Republic disappointed Yularen just as it disappointed many others, who can really blame them for changing side so easily when one man who disguised himself as "the perfect messiah" conveniently presented himself to the public?

@@laisensei6984 That too. It's so messed up, because of Palpatine playing on both sides just as you mentioned. I am sure Yularen regrets Order 66, when it was enacted, he was close friends with General Skywalker and Obi Wan, but he preferred to remain loyal with the Republic.

@@jamesgravil9162 Highly doubt Palpatine would have executed Tarkin, Palpatine absolutely adored Tarkin and his methods, infact, Palpatine was *devastated* to learn that Tarkin had perished aboard the Death Star, not to mention, Palpatine was not like Vader, he didn't punish good men for failing, he certainly lectured and warned them, sure, but he mostly punished incompetance and disloyalty, he was actually quite upset at Vader for killing so many officers. I doubt Tarkin would take his lumps lying down either, he'd deflect blame to subordinates, especially since Vader would have been the big fall guy for something such as this.

I do think there is some logic to Republic Yularen, having witnessed the entirety of the Clone Wars, would develop the belief that separatism and disobedience lead to mass bloodshed.

I certainly wouldn’t mind if James Luceno wrote a book about Yularen, I loved Darth Plagueis and Tarkin.

That scene when he asks for a word with her and then simply says, “watch your back.” Incredible.

Yeah I also liked how she was shocked that Partagaz took her side this time.

I also love how she interacts with her assistant. Rather than flaunting her power over him she respects his time and his insight. She's not afraid to show insecurity and uncertainty around him and he in turn is right there ready and more than willing to support her in any way he can. This show is amazing at making me want them to do well and succeed despite being the antagonists.

In the clone wars he’s an independent thinker who wasn’t afraid to question and pushback against his Jedi generals while also having an open mind in following through with some of their tactics he was initially skeptical about. Doesn’t seem like someone who is swayed by the common opinion the empire promotes.

Do we have an official timeline for this? As I recall, the ending of Rebels lined up with Rogue One. This is obviously before that movie, but do we know how much before? Where in the Rebels series (or before it) does this series fall?

Honestly i kinda wanted to see the Ghost Crew to appear. Yes, i know that's a very VERY low chance to even happen but hey.. Rebels is happening around the same time as Andor so i don't mind having some interconnection happening especially after we see Mon Mothma kept bringing up the reasoning for her defiance.

The channel has a canon timeline based on BBY. But I actually like to see Hondo in a prison seen with Andor.

Sure, those of us that say the Galactic Republic are the good guys do have a bit of bias. I’ll admit to that. Still, conduct in the field is something to take note of. Dooku (intentionally) filled out the ranks of the Separatists with either battle droids who would do whatever they were ordered to do and officers who either served the megacorporations or had a dark history of atrocities to begin with. Palpatine on the other hand had the Jedi lead as officers in the GAR and Republic Navy. The Jedi who while weren’t immune to the current dark state of the Galactic Republic, still at least tried to maintain their beliefs as best as they could. The Sith intentionally had the Republic led by honorable beings and the Separatists led by jerks and monsters. Reason One, to make the Jedi and their ways look incompetent and make more militaristic leaders more popular as the Jedi were unable to end the Clone Wars quickly. Reason Two, making the war look as black and white as possible by making the combatants as such makes people hate future rebels more and praise the Empire more. So yeah, the goodness of the Republic and evil of the Separatists was manufactured by the Sith. However, as we see it play out on the battlefield, it meant the Jedi were risking their lives saving troops and civilians while many Separatist commanders were brutal and robbing the people, though I doubt most were as cruel as Grievous and Tarkin. When we see the Jedi do immoral and questionable things, most of the time like you stated, it’s the harshness and realities of war thrust on them, like how Palpatine used the brutality and real fear of the war to convince senators to hand more and more power to him throughout the conflict. On the Separatist side though, Dooku ensured his agents did immoral things a lot, even ordering them personally. And he also made sure few Separatist citizens and politicians knew of how the military operated. If they knew of the atrocities, Dooku would be in a tight spot. It’s likely most reasonable and honorable Separatist commanders were put in charge of the defense of worlds instead of the invasions of others. That way, they wouldn’t have issues with the cause if they saw what the frontlines were like. Now of course many of the officers that served the Empire, even after the destruction of the first Death Star, were originally part of the Republic military. It’s probably likely that most war crimes of the Republic were committed by them, like how Tarkin committed mass arrests and massacres on a planet that was key to the Separatist Shadowfeed Network. Palpatine simply would have the Holofeed Networks only focus on the victories of these officers and then ignore everything else, while he would have the media focus on both the Jedi victories and their atrocities, painting the latter in a worst light than it actually was to drum up anti-Jedi support. Anyways, the officers were still ranked lower than the Jedi, so most of the time the Jedi were likely holding them back from being brutal and cruel. Many officers of the Republic like Tarkin and Yularen questioned Jedi tactics and if they were the right leaders for the war effort despite the popularity of the Jedi among the clone troopers. The Clone Wars is the most grey conflict in Star Wars Canon. The Republic fought for its survival with expendable troops that it made in cloning laboratories and its militarization not only made life miserable for many citizens who were doing fine, but it lead to the rise of the Empire. However the Separatists, while having justifiable motivations such as the Republic ignoring them and never protecting them from criminals, gangsters, and the megacorporations, performed far more brutally than they had to be. At times they even became the conquerors the Empire later would be. So does this mean the Republic and the Separatists are just as bad? I would say until the Outer Rim Sieges, the answer would be no, but only by a small margin. The Republic was only heroes by a very small margin. That margin is thanks to the Jedi Order, a margin that grew smaller and smaller over the years as the Jedi became more corrupted by the harshness of combat. It was basically the point of the Clone Wars, to drag it from any honor it had left and make people cheer when the evils of imperialism became normal. The last goodness of the Galactic Republic was spent in the Clone Wars, chipped away by the growing evil of the Empire. And the Separatists are partially to blame as much as the people who willingly became Imperials. After all, only a crisis can make people switch from the status quo to the next phase. Now granted to be fair, we haven’t seen much of the good side of the Separatists. We’ve only seen all the bad elements, megacorporations, and criminals Dooku brought into the ranks. But I always have to wonder what the Separatists were thinking when they let Dooku get away with that. They made themselves sound like the Rebel Alliance. They indeed wanted to escape a corrupt government. And yet the CIS ended up with so many corporations, Slave empires, criminal gangs, and small dictatorships, that we usually have to be reminded that many Separatists just wanted something new and better before Dooku used the CIS for evil.
