Dr. Felice Gersh is a globally-recognized expert on women’s hormones, gut microbiome, and circadian rhythm. In this episode;
Why Dr. Gersh went from classic OBGYN practice to being a functional doctor.
Estrogen why does it have a bad rap?
Hormonal contraceptives birth control versus natural estrogen
Oral versus topical

I found the video very informative, but! it was difficult to understand a lot of the terminology that the Dr used, I understand it can be me but she forgot some of us are trying to learn. This Dr, really knows her stuff, and it is all about science, no script, no looking at the prompter, amazing.

I'm a fan of hrt, but estradiol has triggered a debilitating histamine intolerance in me. As this is a known risk of hrt, I would like to see this addressed by these experts. It's ruined my health and life (I can't function as I now have breathing issues, and constant severe fatigue), and no medic is helping me. No one talks about this aspect. Let's acknowledge estradiol induced histamine intolerance. It's not that rare.

She is the most knowledgeable doctor I have heard talking about hormonal replacement therapy. Unfortunately, she doesn’t get all the likes that some doctors who keep asking for likes and subscribers get, and they do not go as deep as she does.

I'm 10 years past and my doctor knows the wHI study was false, however she felt I'm too old to start HRT. She had to consult with a gynecologist to get the go ahead that it's safe at 60 to take bio identical hormones. I have osteoporosis and my doctor never had the menopause conversation 10 years earlier. I'm in Canada, doctors are slow here too

Hi, I have only just found your channel. Although this video is 2 years old as I watch tiday, I have found the content very relevant to me. I had hysterectomy aged 30. I have had my family but what they did not do, at the time of my surgery, was give hormone replacement afterwards. Their excuse was that I was still very young and they had left me one ovary, which should have supplied the hormones that I need. I am 60 now, and they finally allowed me to have HRT patches which I started in January of this year. I have also developed autoimmune liver disease, an overlap of AIH and PBC. Obviously these need medication which As you should know are not pleasant. I also have hashimotos.....It's strange that I have had thyroid modules since I was 18, so did my Mum....in Jan 2011, I finally got a diagnosis of Hashimotos, and in April of that year, 3 months after the diagnosis, I became very unwell and was diagnosed with AIH and PBC overlap as well. I still have no treatment for my thyroid and I have a very visible lump in the front of my neck. I blame the untreated thyroid condition for everything else. Is it possible that my being starved of estrogen after my early hysterectomy, is what has upset my immune system ?. Thank you from the UK.

I recently found this channel & I'm loving it. Im interested I'm in your member group too... how do we join? Thank you both for this... but now, I'm so confused. If we menopausal women are on bhrt...we should cycle doses & stop progesterone each month for a certain time, so we'll have a cycle? I like my dr (she's a functional gyno) & I have my hormones at higher levels (not via pellets), but I take enough progesterone to eliminate thickening of my uterine lining & do ultrasounds annually. She doesn't want me to have a shedding, but she is open-minded & I want to talk to her about this. Is there another video on typical optimal levels for menopausal health protection & longevity... & the cycling?

Wonderful information, thank you 💛 I'm 55 and on HRT oestradiol patches, micronized progesterone, and testosterone gel. I know I need more oestradiol, my body tells me it needs more, but I'm on the highest dose my GP allows, 100mcg. I started testosterone in the hope it would boost the oestrogen. It seems to help but if we were given a high enough, optimal, amount of oestradiol that might be so much better and healthier instead of hoping testosterone will do the job of the missing oestrogen as well as its own functions.. These lower doses of oestradiol are keeping us in a state akin to being premenstrual, not ideal at all. Thank you again 💛xx PS I'm not a good oestrogen absorber, so that's another issue. I have M.E., so my mitochondria struggle, and I wonder if starting oestradiol long before might have been a good idea. I instigated all the HRT requests myself, as you need to advocate for yourself here in the UK. But super grateful that HRT is available on the NHS, and that is brilliant ❤️xx

I have so many questions. First of all, aren't both progesterone and estrogen creams made from yams? And yams can't act as either one in the body. And how does the body know that the chemical coming in looks like progesterone or estrogen? If its not ESTRADIOL - then it is a crap shoot what all these creams are doing in the body. The effects will be random based on your unique receptors. The only thing you know is whether it helps your symptoms - which is a crap shoot as well. The only thing I understand FOR SURE - is that if you have a menopausal symptom that requires ESTRADIOL - like bladder trouble or vaginal atrophy - anything else you take is going to be unknown and potentially problematic. I love this doctor - she seems quite knowledgeable.

Discuss adrenal fatigue please. HRT makes it worse
@karenmartelhormones
@karenmartelhormones Ай бұрын
No it doesn't it supports it. There is no such thing either as adrenal fatigue it is HPA axis dysfunction. Why would your own naturally occurring hormones cause low cortisol? Estrogen is crucial for the immune system and mitochondria health both of which are important in anyone with HPA axis dysfunction.

And theoretically if adrenals were “fatigued” they are partially “fatigued” by trying to do double duty to pump out sex hormones when the ovaries fail rather than adrenaline. Exogenous estrogen will rest them rather than keeping them multitasking.
