@@katievulic758 That can be a part of it, yes. What happens is we start watching a video and even though we want the information and care about the topic sometimes it doesn't stick. Or if there are no visual cues we might have a hard time catching the main message. But if you can't concentrate on a video once in a while that doesn't necessarily mean that you have ADHD. However, if you can't concentrate frequently it might be worth giving a thought or two. thank you for asking :)

I have runners on my mom's side and they always have incredibly slim bodies in their teens and early twenties but they somehow gain weight to be 250+ by the time they are 35. I wonder if it's because they stop the cardio? I mean most people gain a bit as they get older but I was always so shocked that the track runners/slim people in my family seemed to get hit the hardest and struggle the most. They even try to restrict calories but it comes back and seems genuinely harder for them. None were muscular either, just super skinny and great stamina... it all makes so much sense now
@nannoreul
@nannoreul 2 күн бұрын
@@Ladyn99Because they have no muscle to keep their metabolism high. Cardio/running directly prevents someone from putting muscle on because it’s contradictory for the body. So when they stop the only thing burning calories (cardio), they’ve go no muscle to help continue burning calories when they stop running. So all the sudden they find themselves in a massive surplus.

"Bad sleep is easy to fix! Just go to bed on time!" ... okay I can literally be too tired to hold my head up or keep my eyes open, take the most melatonin I can safely take along with Benadryl and prescription sleep medication and I can still lay in a perfectly comfy bed with no noise or light for 12 hours straight, trying my absolute hardest to fall asleep and not even get 10 minutes of sleep. Sleep is not an easy problem to fix when you have insomnia.

As a hypnotherapist who studies the subconscious mind and how it relates to insomnia, I’d recommend a few exercises to help trick your brain into falling sleep. There’s a lot that goes into good sleep, it’s not as easy as most people tend to think and everyone is different in what they need to shut their body and brain down. If your mind is hyperactive and your body hasn’t expended much energy and if your sleep schedule is already off, then this significantly affects the process and sets you back automatically, much more than the average person. There is also a key factor when it comes to stress and worry and any kind of anxiety disorder. Aside from exploring your own specific insomnia issues in hypnosis, there’s a few extra things you can do. 1. Do a few breathing exercises. You breathe differently when you sleep and it would be good to give your body the signal for that head start. (Breathe in deeply for a few seconds, hold your breath a few seconds, and release as slowly as possible and then before breathing in again hold at the bottom of the breath for a few seconds. Repeat this a few times until you feel your body and mind relaxing 2. On that note, give your body and subconscious as many sleep cues as possible such as the same routine every night, staying away from screens for at least an hour or two before you want to be asleep and changing your bodily state such as a warm shower or bath. 3. About Two hours before bed or 1.5 hours, write down all the thoughts in your head, all the worries. Empty your head. You can also just text it in your phone notepad or email yourself. Get it all out. 4. A bit after that do a few stretches to release any remaining tension in the body. Breathe. 5. Mimic how the mind falls asleep and use your imagination to think of random meaningless pictures... an umbrella, a monkey playing a guitar, a tree climbing the stairs... whatever nonsense... the conscious mind won’t be able to keep up and so it will start to hand the baton over to the subconscious mind and prepare for sleep state. I hope that helps someone. If anyone has any other questions about this topic, feel free to reach out to me StrategiesandStardust.com Also This is the best fitness and nutrition meets science channel ever! I’ll keep coming back.

Yeah same, when I went to the gym (before the whole pandemic thing) doing weights I started to gain weight and bulk up. I’m also pretty petite (5’2) so I think that also plays a role. For me HIIT also works really well for burning calories and fat, but also low impact exercises. The low impact exercises really help with slimming down and toning. When I only do low impact exercises I can eat less than when I also do some HIIT.

You have such an amazing way to break this stuff down so it can not only be understood but absorbed. I’ve been struggling with my weight for years due to hypothyroid and other health issues and I’ve always kicked ass…… in the first few weeks and then calories in, calories out stops working but I’m so stinking hungry. Now I understand that was my body’s “shot across the bow” before down regulating. I’m currently at a deficit, but I’m going to start ramping back up to find maintenance and then do a bit of the reverse dieting before I try losing again. This has been life changing info.

First I want to say I'm learning a lot from your content. I've started resistance training because of you! I want to apply what I'm learning to boost my metabolism and not lose muscle mass while I'm trying to lose fat. I've been following the keto lifestyle since mid-september 2020 and it's going very well. I've cut the fatigue/lethargy completely; I've cut the bloating, and I'm never starving. I've lost 46lbs so far my goal is 100 lbs. I'm not really tracking calories as much, but I do try to keep my carbs between 20-30g/daily. As of last month I've increased my protein goals to ~ 130g but I intermittent fast also. I feel I have the opposite issue than you. I'm learning that I used to snack and eat out of boredom, so now I'm only eating when I'm actually hungry and I'm finding that I can go until ~1:30/2:00 almost 3pm sometimes before I get munchy. I do still eat about 2 meals a day and maybe a snack like strawberries or keto ice cream. How do I eat more calories to boost my metabolism, when I'm not even hungry? I use the Fittrack scale/app so I checked after watching this video and I was actually surprised to see that my BMR has actually been going up (still low) from 1434 in September to 1545 now. I'm currently only eating around 1500 calories or less and I'm usually full.

Ok, so I think this video finally helped me figure out why I have been dealing with such low energy levels for a while now. I always attributed it to my whacky sleep schedule (which is probably still not ideal, but at least I get a decend amount of hours in most of the time). Turns out, I very probably accidentially underate for a while and therefore tanked my metabolism all this time. I'll try to up my calorie intake some and see what happens.

My metabolism is slower than I want, and I’m curious about trying reverse dieting. Been pseudo-following low FODMAP to heal my gut, so main foci have been sleep, stress and nutrition. But I may be ready for tracking macros again in order to reverse diet now that I’m getting the hang of low FODMAP. Loved Project Comeback, and interested in your other programs, but I’m no longer a student. Would you recommend your programs as a good next step to PC? Or should I go another route? I train at home and have everything necessary besides a bar.

@MissFitAndNerdy

1. Yay! Thanks so much ☺️☺️ 2. That should definitely help!! I do recommend cycling cardio either way though just to keep the body from fully adapting. Unless you’re trying to actually compete or improve your cardio. Then you do want adaptation. It really all comes down to what your goals are 3. The body can only adapt at a certain rate. If you eat more than it can adopt to, you gain weight. This is the same way it works for weight-loss. Your body starts by losing weight and then adapts and plateaus. If you eat in a surplus, you will gain weight until your body has adapted to the new calorie intake and your weight will plateau. That’s why with a reverse diet, you increase very slowly. So that the body can adapt and minimize weight gain 4. That’s AMAZING 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Hey Marisa! Quick question about the whole cardio thing- So if I am eating in a caloric deficit (let's say 500 cal deficit), and on a normal day for me that means eating 1600 calories. Does that mean, then, if I do cardio and burn an extra 250 calories, that I should eat 1850 that day to maintain the same deficit to minimize metabolic adaptation?

I'm 41 and have had a slow metabolism and been maintaining at about 1,200 calories for years and I have been watching your videos which are so helpful. My question is, when reverse dieting, if I started with increasing my intake by 50 cals a week, doss that mean an extra 7 calories a day, then next week 14, then the following week, 21 calories, then 28 calories? Or start eating 50 calories extra today and for the rest of the week and increase it by 50 calories each week, so 100 extra calories the week after this, 150 the week after, 200 extra the following week? That's what I find confusing.

I tried a reverse diet several months ago. I got to a point where I was maintaining weight, and not hungry all the time. Then I quit my job in manual labor and it took another 2 months for my hungry ques to match my new maintenance. At this point I'm 10 pounds heavier than I'd like to be, but weighing and calorie counting was leading me in a bad direction, so I've decided to give it a rest for a while and see what happens if I just try to listen to my body.

With the cardio thing i was so confused before but all you have to do is just start simple do a 10-15min for two weeks or so then increase it to 20-25min just do a bit longer every Couple weeks until you Reach your goal. It will be a bit slow but it won’t damage your metabolism and will last until you reach your goel without doing a long time of cardio and dying while you donig it🥰

Hello, so.. I have a tendency to over think everything. I am wanting to lose about 15lbs by the end of July. I understand the suggestion of mini cuts 2-3 weeks in a deficit and then 1-2 weeks at maintenance. In the maintenance phase should I add more calories to compensate for the deficit of working out or are we strictly talking the food intake deficit. Yes, I am going to go back and watch the video it has been a bit since I watched it. :)

How does one know their metabolism? I have a smart scale telling me my is at 1300. And I have for just some weeks ago realized I gained all weight I lost last year because of problems with my stomach and trouble eating most food. So now I wanna try loose weight to not being overweight again, but it feels really hard thinking my metabolism might be this low. Not sure what it means to do resistance training. And if I not know of that scale is correct, can it be wrong to try this reverse thing? I have lost 1kg in some weeks now trying to eat healthier and do a bit exercise and be more active overall, but it might not be right way to start if it is so that normally one should have a metabolism on 2000 something, not 1300. A friend of mine told me it could be coming from my depression also. That body is reacting this way because of crisis in mind and too much sadness.

Your metabolic rate will be higher the more muscle mass you have. Carrying a higher amount of body fat or wearing wrist and ankle weights will not have as much an affect as muscle tissue. This is because muscle tissue is more metabolically active, ie it demands more energy to function

Sports all the way!! 😄 Don't have to overthink cardio and resistance training...just play. And dance. And eat anything you like. (True for me at 35. I've always been around +3 to +10kg from my 11-year old self but then again, I was already an athlete since I was 7, have asian genes, a mesomorph, done 85 types of sports, and am hyperactive) But seriously, love the science explanation, and for the most part, it's true and should work for most. However, can still be case to case considering SOMATOTYPES (I'm a mesomorph, for example, so I don't have to overthink), AGE, injuries (with surgeries), hormones, GENES (asian genes tend to stay lean for instance), sleeping issues, underlying health issues, etc. Nevertheless, I would say, resistance and cardio are both good for you: 70-30 for ectomorphs, 50-50 for mesos, 30-70 for endos. As for food, it's too much having to calorie count or be too concerned what food mix to eat. Might end up releasing more stress hormones out of it, but I guess some people can deal with it.
