I have been crying out to the Lord today in the midst of moving, mess and kid "madness" (and it looks like this is my son's KZfaq account, too!), and in trying to keep my boys busy with some phonics lessons, I happened onto one of your SUPER helpful videos on the Abeka Handbook For Reading...that was SO NEEDED in streamlining my life, that I figured you would also have something excellent for math...and HOORAY! You were going step-by-step over TT, something I have been hearing so much about but hadn't researched much because we were off the grid in a small mountain village and didn't have regular WiFi until moving back to our home village last week...The timing is RIGHT, and I am SUPER excited to dig deeper into this. Thank you for such a wonderful review...I never knew how interesting TT would be! No wonder so many of my friends (and sisters, this year) are using it for their math curriculum. Thank you for posting this. I am in the process of pulling my son (3rd grade) from public school and have been looking at different math curricula. I had an algebra class similar to the TT setup, in high school. I believe it may be the only reason I passed the class, lol. I will definitely check out Teaching Textbooks! 🦋

I had to come back and let you know we downloaded the free trial and my daughter is loving it. This would be a blessing for our homeschool to get to use for a year. My daughter did the lesson all by her self and made a 95% and she was so excited and I was as well for her. Thank you and TT that everyone is able to enter in this amazing giving.🤪 Math has been a for a few years now. My daughter told me that she wasn't enjoying her Math with Confidence level 3 and it hurt. So thank you for giving us a chance to win TT for a year. A blessing to everyone and the one that wins it.

Glad you found a math program that’s working for you. I also use teaching textbooks with my 5th grader. We actually buy the cd-rom and physical workbook (just wanted to put that out there that it is available in that format as well).😊

I’m so glad TT is working well for you guys! I have 4 kiddos too. My oldest is 3rd grade and not loving his math at all. It’s a bummer because I hate to waste money switching curriculum. I think he would enjoy TT. Hope your baby girl is doing well! My baby girl just turned 1 😭. The year flew by so fast.

Math has been our biggest struggle. I feel so behind with my 3rd grader and have been trying so hard to find what works for both of us. This video makes me feel hopeful and I am excited to try it out with my daughter! 🥰

I'm so happy TT is working for you! I've tried so many different maths I can't even count them. Ultimately each of my kids is so different and each one did better with different maths. Last year was my first year with TT for my youngest daughter in sixth grade. She's good at math and she loves all the rewards, challenges, stimulation and seems to grasp the concepts easily. The only thing she doesn't like about TT is that it's always 22 practice problems and if you already know it you don't need that much practice. But you can't score well on a quiz if you don't do every problem. It annoys her to take so much time but otherwise she's really improving at math and it's right at her level. My older daughter who struggles with math and literally hates it could never do this program. Her math is mastery based and has to be in black & white.

I feel like we’ve had the exact same math journey the last few years 😂 Last year with my 5th grader we struggggggggled through tgatb and hearing that you were having some of the same struggles as us made me feel better! We also switched to TT this year and it’s going fabulously!

Same here my son is 11 and is slowly completing TGTB math 3 he has 1 more unit to go and he is done. It has been painful, I see progress for sure, but he just hates math. My son did try TT lesson 1, but he placed in level 5, I hope he doesn't have any gaps. May I ask how it is going for you guys and what level did your child place? We really want to give it a try, I am just a little nervous to place him in the wrong grade. I was actually looking into Abeka as well, still haven't made a decision.

We never tried TT but gave thought about it. I’ve used Saxon and Christian Light, both for different kids and they like them but I think we’re going to switch to TT for the higher grades. As always, love your videos and thanks. 🙏🏼

I feel like we have had a journey through math as well as you 🤪. My daughter struggle to finish TG&TB math level 2 and so this year I bought math with confidence 3 but, the only problem with that it is really wordy. Some times we just want to get straight to the point but in a fun way. I totally forgot about teaching textbooks. Maybe because of the negative reviews. I would love to try it with my 7 yr. old daughter because she enjoys something that is fun and on the computer. Again congratulation on the new baby girl 🎉.

Sounds so much like Monarch which we’ve been using for our teens! Minus the tutoring. That sounds like a HUGE deal. I pulled all of my kids from public schooling (all adopted and most were on IEP’s) because the schools didn’t seem concerned with the continuous decline in their retention. The tutoring would be huge.

My son has tried a few other things math curriculums but he always comes back to Teaching Textbooks. My daughter is ready to start Teaching Textbooks in 3rd grade. 😊

We use and love Teaching Textbooks(and have for many years!)I really like the 4.0(online)subscription(we used to use the discs). You might let your 2nd grader try a free trial as she might be able to do TT 3 in 2nd grade. I'm one of those large family mommas who utilizes the Large Family Option, so I had my current 3rd graders do TT 3 last year. They didn't finish it, so they actually started it over this year(but they could have just picked up where they left off).

🎉 My oldest two have been doing the free trial of TT. I like that it’s independent. So far the levels are way easy for them but they each probably need the last several lessons in their current grade before moving up to the next one. I might have them try the next levels though just to see.

A lot of people actually start Teaching Textbooks in second grade because their conceptual content runs more alligned with the public school that way. So if your 2nd grader is ready for the concepts, I say go for it❣

I’ve heard about TT but was turned off that it was completely online. Part me loving teaching them, part limiting screen time, part the impersonal nature of not having a rapport with a teacher. My oldest isn’t at grade 3 yet but has asked about taking an online class in the past, so maybe we’ll try when we get to 3rd grade. 😒🤦‍♀️

Just started watching your channel today and I love it! I was wondering, for using an online only math curriculum, aren't there some things they need to write in paper for math? Like long division, etc.? Do you think it's any type of deficit that they won't know how to write things out, or could they theoretically still write it out since they've seen it on the screen? Thank you!

Great question! There is a “scratch pad” on the program for them to work out the problems. But they can also use real notebook paper if you/they prefer.

❤ the heart is my favorite. I'm kinda lost with math. She have use BJU k5-3rd grade in school and felt behind. Tried Masterbook but was too slow. Using The Good and the beautuful right now and is working but takes forever and is kinda overwhelming her😢😭

We're using Apologia Math right now. We're only 1 month into it, but I really like the layout and it's simplicity. It seems like a good balance of not being overwhelming, but also teaching the concepts thoroughly with some fun activities sprinkled throughout.

@@Rosamund311 Which grades are you teaching? Is it teacher intense? I'm from Nicaragua and the school year is Jan-Nov here. I'm trying to plan for next year and feeling lost. But Definitely feeling curious about Apologia's math. Mine are to be 5th grader and 2nd grader.

@@gabrieladelopez941 Teaching 2nd & 5th graders too. I would say it is "medium" for the teacher workload. It doesn't have video lessons like TGATB, so you do have to teach the lesson.

@@gabrieladelopez941 Math has always been my weakness, so going into higher level math, I will probably pick an online program. I have heard good things about Denison Algebra and Shormann Math, so maybe one of those? Apologia is supposed to be coming out with their Math 6 in the spring.
