Talking to the dead or seeking supernatural encounters should not be the primary purpose of fasting for a Christian. Ephesians 6:4 (NIV) advises, "Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." This verse encourages parents to provide godly guidance and instruction to their children without being harsh or provoking anger. Discipline should always be done in a way that reflects God's love and seeks the child's spiritual and moral growth. It's essential to balance correction with affirmation, understanding, and forgiveness, following the example of God's grace and patience with us. While some forms of punishment may be necessary, they should be administered with the goal of teaching and shaping the child's character rather than causing harm. It's crucial to pray for wisdom and seek guidance from the Bible in disciplining Christian children.

Fasting is a practice that has been observed by believers throughout history, both in the Old and New Testaments. While it's true that Jesus did not fast during His time in the desert after His baptism, He did engage in fasting on other occasions. In Matthew 4:1-2, it is written, 'Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.' This event highlights that fasting can be a means of spiritual preparation and seeking God's guidance. However, it's important to note that fasting should not be seen as a means of earning salvation or righteousness. Salvation comes by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ, as emphasized in Ephesians 2:8-9: 'For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.' Fasting, when done with the right heart and motives, can serve as a tool for drawing closer to God, seeking His guidance, and practicing self-discipline. It is not a requirement for salvation but rather a personal choice made by believers in their journey of faith. In Matthew 6:16-18, Jesus offers guidance on fasting, saying, 'And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.' Ultimately, whether one chooses to fast or not, the key is to do so with a sincere heart and as a means of drawing closer to God. God's grace remains the foundation of our faith, and our works, including fasting, are expressions of our devotion and obedience to Him.

@@PathsofUnderstanding I'm well aware of what the scriptures says about the 40 days but it is NOT true; again, Jesus did not fast any time during his lifetime. He knew it was an archaic, barbaric and erroneous approach to God. It's as simple as that. Once again, any type of self-denial of the flesh is NOT the correct approach to a spiritual, loving, merciful God. We are also not saved by God's grace. We are saved by our free will faith in God. Jesus said that we are saved by our faith. Not God's grace. But our free will decision, our choice, to exercise believing, loving faith in the beneficient God. God blesses us in response to our faith. Both the doctrine of fasting and the doctrine of grace are theological errors in religion. Neither one have anything to do with spiritual meanings, values, or relationships. The 40 days after the baptism, has been confused with a then recent prior event, when he was still a man, waiting to become manifest as godly, of debates with 'Satan' on Mount Hermon, in fact, the same area as his later Transfiguration. And the reply of Jesus to the Pharisees, concerning Jesus and his apostles not fasting, including the comment about the bridegroom and the wine skins, he also said "...... Fasting may be an appropriate part of the law of Moses, but in the coming Kingdom, the sons of God shall experience freedom from fear, and joy in the divine spirit." Even the disciples of John the Baptist were comforted by these words of assurance. He then later quoted Isaiah's denunciation of fasting to his apostles. Afterwards, he propounded to his apostles the truth that it was their faith that made them secure in the Kingdom of the present and the future, and not their affliction of soul nor fasting of body. And the spiritual teachings of Jesus the Master, supercedes all other erroneous biblical teachings of the same subject.
