How many recovery boards do you have? For snow, solo trips and heavy trucks I would always recomend getting 4 boards, no matter the brand. That said I have been impressed by the maxtrax so far. 👍🙂

Currently I don't have any boards but after nearly getting stuck in the snow last month it is on my ever growing list of things to buy. Especially as I tend to venture out on my own.

I have two of the x bull or x boar, some kind of animal knock off ones from amazon. They are awful way too thick . One of them cracked in the freezing weather. Next time I go to the dump I will probably throw them away.
@LandRoverDrive
@LandRoverDrive 3 жыл бұрын
@@The-Observer Yeah, I have that kind of list my self. I need to plan my spendings from now on so prioritizing is key. The boards have been a savier for me multiple times now so I would consider them being the first type of recovery gear to get. And being out there alone in the snow I would recomend getting four as it makes all the difference. Best, Simon

@@RockmanDash Okay, yeah, seen some knock off and maxtrax test and I found out I would spend that extra money on boards as I was not going to buy a winch. They cost a bit and I'm glad to have this video to show my wife why I needed to get four and not two. :) I would recomend the maxtrax for sure. Best, Simon.

I have two but no snow. Haha. Mine have the optional recovery straps so you can find them if buried.

We were chukar hunting a few weeks ago in Northern Nevada. On a snowy/muddy road that had a pitch to it with a deep rut on the downhill side. Despite trying to stay out of it, we slid into it. There would have been no getting out of it. I have a pair of maxtrax, which we put in front of the front tires. I drove right out of it. We were hours from the nearest town. The maxtrax definitely saved our bacon.

Great story Torrey! 👍😊 I think the maxtrax is the best first option recovery gear one can get. So easy, anyone can use it, and great price for what you are getting, a full recovery kit. If you were to get a winch and accessories it would set you back so much more. So I definitely recommend getting the maxtrax first no matter the car. 😊 Glad it worked out and I love hearing stories like these. Best, Simon. 😊

Thank you so much! Glad you liked it. Maxtrax are so handy that I would recommend them to everyone out driving where the conditions can change or be a bit tricky. Glad the dog lived as well, strange how we react in a moments notice. 😊

Finish with diner now watching Land Rover Drive rescue mission. These maxtrax not only work in the Australian bush they even work in the Norwegian winter. Think I need a pair of them :-D Quick recovery without any damage, well done! :-D And best regards from my parents too :-D

You can't beat having a willing friend close by with the right gear. I did see a recovery hook on the front of the Toyota. It did have a towing receiver.
@LandRoverDrive

Good real friends are important and that it's just getting clearer for each day I get older. 🙂 Friends that drop everything they are doing they get the call. 👍 I'm glad I had the gear and it's fun to show what the right gear can do, even for non overlanders like my friend Thomas. Maxtrax is really the first recovery product I would get and recommend others getting. The Toyota has a tie down point in the front, not sure if it was recovery rated. I guess it also should have the screw in type recovery point but I don't know the car that well. The towing receiver is a no go when it comes to recovery, as the towball can come flying off and non of us want that. Thanks for watching Richard. Cheers! 🙂

Much admiration for the seamless transition to English. 👍🏻 Also, can't help chuckling when I think about Thomas driving his 2WD hatchback on those snowy roads. If we got that where I live, the ditches would be full of hatchbacks and BMWs, even without the dog avoidance.🤣 🤣

Hehehe, yeah winter tires man, winter tires. 😊 English is Norway second language in schools. They start in first grade. That said, both me and Thomas get some practice through our work situation. But thanks for that. 👍 I have to work on my pronunciations and it will only get better. 👍 Best, Simon

@@haanjamiis Hahaha, yeah they cost a bit. Ordered mine on sale so got a bit off. But if you drop buying a winch and get maxtrax instead your better of. For overlanding I think it’s the better option to get frost if you can’t afford both. I don’t have a winch yet. 😊

A good recovery although generally speaking, especially when towing or without recover boards, you should go out the way you went in. Because then you know what is under the snow. You’ll be getting a call from the Discovery Channel any day now to do a “spin off” from Ice Road Rescue. Then you’ll have to celebrate each job with 🍕 🤣 Can’t wait for the Land Rover Drive merch “vinterdress” 👍🏼👍🏼
@LandRoverDrive
@LandRoverDrive 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a great point Gary. In this situation with the car driving it self out I think forward was the better option. Also with standard cars you can only find a recovery point at the front. Tow ball is a no go. But definitely important to check underneath the car and the snow you are driving or being dragged through. I hope some day I could get some founding but for now Patreon is my best option 😊 Vinterdress would have been fun, but t-shirts will be the first option of merch I think. 😁 Thank for your support Gary, really appreciate it. 😉

But really easy to pull off the front bumper on these small cars when pulling them backwards in the deep snow. So I would say better to go forward in this case. But again, every case is different.

Correcting my typo... I did NOT see a front recovery hook.
@LandRoverDrive
@LandRoverDrive 3 жыл бұрын
It has a strop down point underneath he front spoiler. Not the strongest so need to be very gentle. I’m guessing it has the screw in type recovery point, which you can mount in the front bumper behind the plastic.
