I had to ask myself WHY was I studying Pet.Eng ?( was it just the $ or passion) and I realized it was the money which was the only pro for me. I hope to get my masters in Renewable Energy for a safer planet especially for my country Nigeria 🇳🇬.

I chose to study EE because I would like to contribute in finding solutions to the current environmental crisis we're facing. In my country, it's not easy to have access to potable water and sanitation ( proper waste management). I'm curious about green chemistry and I'll like to design long term solutions in waste management to improve the quality of life of my community. The content proposed here is quite interesting and I'll like to learn more in your company.

I took a couple years off from school after pursuing my bachelors in Chemistry to work in industry, but now am ready to go back to school in pursuit of developing an expertise and just deepening my knowledge into areas I’m passionate about, such as the environment! Great question! There are pretty different if you take a look at the classes offered. Environmental engineering is focused on cleaning up pollution using engineering and math principles. environmental science is focused on understanding environmental processes than just pollution. Environmental engineers can get both engineering and science jobs that environmental scientists apply for and tend to get paid more because of their engineering foundation. But it just depends on the job you want because you need to take the classes that matter for that career. Hope that helps!

Thank you so much. If you have any other advice please share, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for reaching out! 1. The math has been pretty manageable for me in this field. But it all depends on the types of courses you take. Hydrology is definitely more math heavy so I didn’t take those courses. 2. Don’t switch the Env. Sci. Because of the math. Your job opportunities and salary will be much better in this field.

The most important thing you need in this field is a good group of people to study with because there are so many different topics to learn. If you are interested in learning about the classes, go to your college of interest and look up their major classes. But I’m general it’s lots of chemistry, biology, air quality, water quality, and design. Lots of variety and super interesting!

Hey Reynard! First, congrats for going down this path of engineering! It’s never an easy choice but it can be truly rewarding! Choosing between CE and EE is difficult because they do have a bit of similarity to them. I would first make sure you choose a school that offers both options and then take one or two classes in both to get a feel for each program. You wanna make sure you enjoy what you are learning! There are tons of job prospects for both majors so I would focus more on what career you are most interested in when making your final choice. But it’s never the end of the world if you want to switch. I know a lot of colleagues that majored in Chemical Engineering and then went to grad school for environmental engineering. So don’t worry too much! Best of luck in your journey!

If you are really interested in software development: I would look into computer science or electrical engineering. With an engineering degree you can work as a data scientist at big companies like Facebook or Google. You can even go into business later. Doing this degree won’t close the door from those opportunities. The best thing to do is start taking the engineering classes in college and then decide your final major a year in. It’s ok if you don’t have it all figured out yet 😊

Do you recommend studying environmental engineering as a bachelor’s degree or as a master’s degree? I can’t seem to decide whether I should major in aerospace engineering since it was a dream that I’ve always wanted to achieve or choose the environmental engineering path instead cause the past few years I became more aware of what’s happening to the world and sometimes I get eco-anxiety whenever I think about it. I become more anxious when I see how ignorant the people around me about this whole situation and I don’t want to sit and wait till we destroy our only home. I used to think that there’s no way to fix what’s already been destroyed so space exploration is a better option to find a new home but now I know that it’s never too late not yet at least. I’ve always been interested in space so I mostly cared about what’s outside the earth. I’m confused and I don’t know what to do. I thought about getting a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering and pursue a master’s degree in environmental engineering but I don’t think that could be possible since they don’t relate that much. Do you have any advice for me?

Honestly depends on your program at the school you go to. The math will always be important and is there to help you through applying environmental engineering theory. 1) always stick to the major you enjoy 2) Grad school is different for everyone and depends on the program you are doing. can i become an environmental engineer with an environmental science?

Yes you can become an environmental engineer if you go to school again and get a masters or PhD in environmental engineering. Or get your Professional engineering lisense. To get a PE means your need to take two exams on environmental engineering and work a certain number of years as an engineer. It’s a lot easier to get a job in engineering if you get a degree in engineering.
