I just completed this game 20 minutes ago. Amazing game, that I would also highly recommend to others. Great review that shows newcomers what the game is about, without giving away anything.

I don't regret spending my entire winter break for this game, it got me into the Persona series so I finished Persona 1 next and am currently playing 3.

Really high quality video for such a small channel. I actually had a very similar experience with p4G this Jan playing the game typically despising JRPs, at least turn based ones, but falling in love with this game so much I preordered royal and just finished my 100 hour playthrough

Recently just purchased a PS Vita and bought Persona 4 Golden. I don’t know why I didn’t buy one Sooner. I’ve been hooked on my Vita for the past three days.

This game really has fun with the 'power of friendship ' trope. Both thematically and in a meta way when it comes to facing the culprit towards the end. It acknowledges that the trope is corny and stupid while emphasizing WHY human connection is so important on a basic psychological level.

I've put in 160 hours, 3 NG+ on P4G and I can't get enough of it. The writing is sometimes better than most movies about young people.

i just harassed my friends to buy it and they are playing it now, i feel very accomplished. this work of art needs to be shared with more people

I just finish P4G yesterday and it's damn good game. Love it from start to finish. It's a very very long game though. Specially if you try to play Marie's quest line

(You forgot to mention Earthbound and Mother 3's battle streamlining feature where if you defeat the dungeon boss or your level is high enough, the enemies either run away from you or are instantly defeated when you touch them)

great video! like you, JRPGs have never really interested me because i found that the combat can be slow at times but I recently played Persona 5 Royal and really love that game. I am really interested in trying Persona 4 Golden on Vita so I was very happy to find your video. One hesitation that I have for going back was that it the game interface might feel dated after playing the newest game... I haven't played P4 or P4G, but I also despise most JRPGs for the same reasons you mentioned and yet, Persona 5 Royal is my all-time favourite game ever.

Persona 1 and 2 (both versions) are in another league. Persona 3, 4, 5 can all be chunked into other group. 1 and 2 gave me more enyojment for beating since they harder. 3,4 and 5 are just a blast to play and chill while still some grind.

Only turn based RPJs I got into were EarthBound(Mother games), Pokémon, and now Persona. Love all three game series now. Just finished Persona 5 Royal about to play P4G

Seems like the number of people who prefer 4 over 5 (who have played both) are about 50/50, which speaks well to how good 4 is and how well it's aged. I haven't gotten very far in either one as I'm playing both concurrently and have put in about 5 hours on each. The visuals and the dungeons in 5 are clearly superior as expected being the newer game. 4 seems far more intuitive all around both with the menus/UI and in navigating the world and figuring out what I need to do in between dungeon crawls for increasing stats, social links and stuff. In 5, when I want to find somebody, oftentimes I have no clue how to find them. As for the story and characters, I haven't gotten far enough in either game to lean one way or the other. As soon as one game hits the mark for me over the other, I'm gonna ditch the other and focus on the one. But so far it hasn't happened yet.

Should I play vanilla persona 4 before golden? Like would I have a better appreciation for golden's new endgame like I did for Royal's third semester since I had the context of the original? Not having access to golden is also kinda why I'm asking. I don't have a vita or a pc so my only option is vanilla on ps2 or ps3.

Never in my life did I ever find a turn based rpg boring I can see why some people do but to me when you play a good one it just clicks and there are plenty of them out there

Persona 4 is probably my favorite of the modern Persona trilogy, and if you love the combat in P4, you'd enjoy SMT Nocturne

The emotional climax you were making fun of is about Rex's decision to work to make the world a better place rather than sinking into despair, thinking the world a cesspool of unsaveably evil and selfish people. Also the battle system in that game is like 500 times more fun than the P4 one. And I say that as a P4 enjoyer.

Personally Persona 4 golden is my favorite game of all time followed by Persona 3 with Persona 5 not making it into my top 10. I just think Persona 5 has much weaker characters and story then 3 and 4 still a great game thought and love the video.

For a video that’s supposed to be about “why I should play Persona 4” there sure is a lot of talk about why you think JRPG’s are trash. Literally over half the video was that and it just sounded like you complaining the whole video. You can have your own opinion but don’t make most of the video about your opinions on JRPG’s and the issues you have with their narrative structure or gameplay mechanics when you are supposed to be reviewing/persuading your audience to play this game. Just about every point in this video you very obnoxiously and annoyingly have to relate it back to your frustrations with the genre. By doing that, It sounds like you don’t even like this game at all. You talk about your issues with JRPGS’s so much that it ends up ruining anything good you have to say about Persona 4 because you have to throw some unnecessary and annoying comment in about how you hate JRPG’s. Get your opinion out in the beginning then just review the game. No one cares after that what your opinion on the genre is, the audience is here to see you review/persuade them to play this game but it’s hard to take what you say as true when you spend so much time actively shitting on the genre. This video ends up being more like “Why JRPG’s are so unbelievably awful. Oh, but Persona 4 is kinda good I guess”. I’ve never been more annoyed with someone trying to review a game. hmm you could ease up on the insulting just a bit hell least put in some effort to make them memes or jokes like many youtubers/people. Guess respect to you not caring to insult so many, but not even sure that true since it sounds more like stress then joke at end on people calling this out to often. I never played Persona 4, but I did see videos of it and I absolutely hated it. To me the game was so bad it made me root for the villain or made me want to be one. The combat was okay, not as good as Persona 5 but it wasn't anyone's fault The only links I liked was Kanji and Ai because I liked their character development, Ayane, Ai and Yumi are also my favorite characters The biggest issue I had with this game is the characters in the game, to me everyone is an asshole. The whole conformity in the social links I didn't care for. The way the MC was an uncaring jerk when someone is in pain. Everything about Operation babewatch 2.0. The girls abuse to the guys at the beginning of school, the campout, the Amagi inn was the last straw. Not to mention Morooka, the guy at the other line you get the phone number from the girl and Hanako make me act like Uncle Ruckus possessed. I can't play this game for I am afraid of what I'll be if I do. I'm scared of being a crappy person.

I love JRPGs like Dragon Quest, so if even one that doesnt enjoy jrpg loves P4 then I’m already Interested
