The Darknuts don’t give a visual clue when they are about to make a turn because that would ruin their entire purpose. They are very difficult to kill and are deadly. That’s the point. Why make them easier? This game is too easy as it is. In my opinion the only tough enemies in the entire game are the Darknuts and the Wizards. I wish there were more tough enemies than just those two.

Played Zelda 1 the first time a few years ago after BotW. I spent years avoiding it because everyone made Zelda 1 sound like this cryptic and borderline unplayable game without a detailed guide, otherwise you would spend hours bombing every tile in the game. In my experience the game was incredibly fun, and I loved the exploration like a super early alpha BotW, and for all the supposed difficulty I only got stuck once during my play through playing the game completely blind.

11:07 That's a low blow man. Xenoblade 2's main theme is persistence in the face of despair. The emotional climax you were making fun of is about Rex's decision to work to make the world a better place rather than sinking into despair, thinking the world a cesspool of unsaveably evil and selfish people. Also the battle system in that game is like 500 times more fun than the P4 one. And I say that as a P4 enjoyer.

I made a gui to map an Xbox controller to use every weapon as fast as I can hit the button with the shoulder button allowing screen scroll from the sides left and right only. However I cannot get more than three weapons to appear at once. Not sure if that due to the NES emulation speed or the sprite limits due to slow old integrated circuits. Nice vid it's time for skyward sword...btw check out displaced gamers videos on stories and input logic. Darknuts are predictable and pseudo controllable if that don't explain it bismuths lack attacks run explains it good too

Best thing about level design is quest 2 level 5 where u either get the triforce and reenter or go thru tge triforce room wall to get the Mandatory item. I swear u r allowed to walk thru walls because theres too much data that it meeds to save bomb animations so ot lets u wall thru

I have the easiest time handling darknuts when there's blocks in the room. I can kinda hunker down behind one, and when one of the darknuts passes by, I can flank him. Also, your sword has just enough reach that when attacking while facing upward, it can extend past the block's tile and still register as a hit.

Sure, word of mouth was definitely helpful, especially if you knew someone that also had the game. But alot of us in the 80s had more resources than it's commonly thought or presumed. Mainly magazines. By 1989 I believe atleast a partial guide was printed with level maps for one through six and secret shops and heart containers. There was a tips and tricks type book that sold for 5 bucks. There was also a guide printed for most of the second quest too. There were also guides that came out later in 94 and I think the guide for a Link to the Past had a guide for the first and second games as well. By 1995 the internet and email was spreading pretty fast to most parts of the US and there were Nintendo forums and lines of communication to figure out stuff if you had the means. Most of us though used the manual that came with the game to get us started as far as we could and just experimented from there. I think today there's alot of gaming cliches that we kinda take for granted like breakable blocks being highlighted or making a certain sound, or certain predictable locations or solutions. Alot of time you would find yourselves saying abstract things like, "I wonder if I can (insert impossible action)" or "maybe I need to (insert irrelevant scenario)", not knowing that would NEVER be a solution, ever in any Zelda video game. Haha

I know I'm super late to this video, but if you're bored of the stereotypical fantasy experience still, I would recommend Brandon Sanderson's fantasy series, especially the Stormlight Archives. They have some very unique creatures, magic systems and a deep well of lore you could get lost in.

I suspect that the reason the devs added a scene about the Nopon camp was because players were missing it in play-testing, then saying they needed things to do in the area. I know I (somehow) almost missed it my first playthrough. I do think it’s much easier to see in DE than on the Wii version.

I'm not sure monad means what you think. It's not a duality of anything, it's a unity or totality. It's monad, mono. As opposed to diad or triad

One thing about the ending I've always had an issue with is that Shulk makes a world "without the need of gods". That doesn't really make sense. Mayneth was altogether kind, good and crucial to the teams' success- in her role as a god. What would make more sense is if he simply made a world without fate. Heck imagine how much more solid ALL the themes would be if when remaking the world without fate, Shulk let Zanza live- but left him a normal human. And that unable to control and manipulate others with his godlike powers, he found his new life worthless and he k***ed himself. It would keep in line with the ideas earlier about revenge, and will- as well as highlighting the concrete difference between Shulk and Zanza's personalities.
@jacobmonks3722
@jacobmonks3722 Ай бұрын
Divinity in the world Xenoblade has a set of rules. It isn't like Zanza is as powerful or even supposed to resemble a Christian God. Gods in Xenoblade rely on the belief of their followers for power, and they must inhabit the bodies of other beings in order to survive. This is a necessarily restrictive existence. As Alvis had said, Meyneth accepted that she might eventually fade away because she allowed her children to move on without her. But Zanza denied this possibility and sought to control the future to ensure it wouldn't happen. So when Shulk wished for a world without the need for gods, he wished for a world that was allowed to progress beyond them, as Meyneth allowed her children to do, and that Zanza wanted to prevent.
@25meip
@25meip Ай бұрын
@@jacobmonks3722 I appreciate the well thought out response, though I don't think I agree. The idea of a monad is continuously used in the game, specifically in reference with will. Anyone wielding such will would be able to control or change the future- and that is seen as inherently good as long as you are controlling your own, and not others. Now, other people can align themselves with it, and support it, but that doesn't make it dependent on that support. Shulk doesn't remake the world using the power of friendship, it's because he can use his will - the true monado - to access the power of the conduit. At the same time, he is a physical being who's limitations were mitigated by having real tangible help in his journey. What I was trying to say in my original comment was that he doesn't just say that there will be "no gods", but that there is "no need of gods", which seems to invalidate his entire journey and that of those who helped him.
@jacobmonks3722
@jacobmonks3722 Ай бұрын
@@25meip All of what you said is correct, so I don't think we actually disagree on anything. But your conclusion is weird. Zanza and Meyneth must inhabit other beings if they wish to continue living, as is the nature of gods in Xenoblade 1. Inhabiting other people necessitates subverting that individual's will, hence controlling their fate, at least partially. I don't think Shulk wishing for a world without gods goes against anything he or the party members stood for. It means they are controlling their own fate and nobody exists who can manipulate the future on a grand scale, which the existence of gods presupposes.
@25meip
@25meip Ай бұрын
@@jacobmonks3722 That's a fair point about Meyneth and Zanza needing a host to continue, but they did not NEED to continue for the world to continue. Unless I'm misunderstanding something about the nature of ether?

@25meip It goes back to what Arglas proposed in the flashback, that eventually, they would say goodbye to their world and leave the Bionis and Mechonis. The Bionis and the Mechonis ARE the world. If the gods don't exist, there is no land. Shulk's decision allowed the world to progress past them, to make a new land independent of their old gods. That's why during the closing sequence, we see Colony 9 in a new location, no longer stuck in that valley. There are some remnants of course, but the Bionis itself is no more.

Great video! Always happy to hear people gush about Xenoblade. I will say though (in part because I'm listening to this at work and not able to look at your visuals) you spend a lot of time during your plot analysis simply stating THAT a scene does this or that, instead of using pieces of the scene to explain WHY it does this or that. It makes your video kinda hard to follow and I think would help the structure of your arguments greatly. I'm much more excited to hear the mechanics of how a scene works in context, than to hear just that it does work and that it is awesome for working. Still you clearly put a lot of work and effort into this and deserve praise for making such a great video

Darknuts can only turn when they are dead center of a tile. Link can walk on the lines on the floor. This means with good timing you can attack the darknuts when they are off center allowing you a brief second of free attack where you know you are safe from a crazy Ivan (complete turn on a dime).

One of the things that you may not be aware of is that there were a whole series of documents that were given to you when you bought the game. There was a manual, a map that gave you some clues about locations of the first few dungeons..:it left a lot of the exploration to you and give you ways to document it so you look back to it later.

The secret power is in the arrow hint tells you how to easily kill the monsters that look like bouncing cat heads. Those enemies first appear in level 5. The game came with a map, so saying "it didn't come with an in game map isn't a good gripe. They show all the items you can get at the beginning of the game, one of those is food. It is also sold in multiple stores as well. I don't think the hints are too hard. I figured out everything when I was 12 years old except how to kill Ganon at the end of the game.
