WHY you should STOP this with the Sony A7IV
I stopped using the shutter protection with the A7IV to avoid dust constantly getting stuck on the sensor. I thought the shutter protector was meant to protect it from dust but honestly you will always get dust on your sensor. I changed the setting back to the original with this and now I just blow out the sensor. This is exactly what I have been doing with every single camera I have owned for years and never has any issues.
It just seems to always collect dust no matter what and you just have to accept it, blow it out and move on. Thanks to Nitecore for sending over their blowerbaby as this has helped heaps with cleaning my gear. Using the pen brush has helped a lot in many circumstances and is absolutely worth it.

My hat is off to you. I actually bought one of these so thanks. But you have a talent of making a commercial not feel like a commercial. This isn’t meant as a backhanded compliment. I am genuinely serious. Sponsors are going to freaking love you. And that’s good because that means you’ll keep making videos. Thank you.

I only used my camera a few times since I've been busy and yes I had a big piece of dust on the sensor which completely baffled me since I was using the shutter closing feature. Thank you for this advice.

Ok, no disrespect here, just a comment. First, I'e not had the problem you've seen but we may be in different environments. 2nd, I put the shutter in my menu, so I can turn in on when I switch lenses so it doesn't activate the shutter when I turn it on & off. Lastly, when you turn this into a sales pitch well I'll leave that there. I will check out the product & would have done that without the shutter thing preceding it. Like your videos & they've help me a lot!

As a hybrid shooter that after shooting Canon for 20 years and finally switched to the A7IV. The only issue I have with the A7IV is it seems to attract dust. Very odd but I just clean it before each shoot. Love that little device. Ordering one right now! 🍻

FACT! I just switched after Canon. Canon = never thought about dust. Sony = better plan for dust issues. I get dust on the Sony like I never had on the Canon. Kinda miss that Canon dust cleaning. It worked!

I just say check your sensor before anything important and clean it. It takes 5 seconds to use the little sensor swabs from Amazon and it guarantees no problems in post. I’ve used the sensor shutter a few times and I’m more paranoid from it getting “stuck “ or binded than anything else.

I only turn it on when I plan to change lenses because usually I am shooting in nasty outdoor environments and it is very easy to get dust inside. Other than that, I leave it off because the camera powers on and is ready to go faster with it off. I did have dust on my sensor once in the last 3 weeks since I got the camera but that dust spec came on it directly from the factory...

It's not about stopping all dust from getting to the shutter. Its about when you got to switch lenses something blowing on to the shutter that would normally end up in the camera and may be difficult to remove or scratch the sensor. It gives you the chance to stop that from making it to camera internals while changing the lens. Its about you observing something blowing onto the shutter as you put the lens on. Its not perfect but will reduce odds if your paying attention during the swap.

I believe I've read that the IBIS or something related to the sensor creates a slight electrostatic charge and so it attracts dust a bit more but I'm not sure. I made the mistake of swapping lenses on a windy day by the beach and I had a bunch of dust on mine
@TrueRoyall
@TrueRoyall Жыл бұрын
Also note don’t know if you mentioned it but that anti dust function does count towards your shutter count life expectancy every time you turn on and off your camera with that setting you use about 2 shutter count alone doing that I had to test that when I notice my shutter count was a bit high for how long I had the camera and amount of photos I took

many have complained about the dust issue from the closed shutter. I haven't suffered from it, but I also almost never change the lens as I only have 2, the Sony 24-105 f4 G OSS and the Sony 90mm f2.8 Macro G OSS 😜

After your video I checked my sensor for dust. And was happy to find none. I do think that the dust could get inside from the shutter. Also I checked out your blower devise. Not particularly cheap, but I may check it out. What I don't like is it is another thing you have to charge. Seems like my life is run off batteries.

I totally agree and this feature should not even be there for the first place because it is the shutter. When I change the lens or put lens on I look at the sensor evarytime to see if there is dust. But with this feature you cant see if there is dust on the sensor. I have the A7S III and A7S II and I am glad that this is not an option there.

The reason why you may be getting dust on your sensor even with the shutter down is because the shutter only repels dust when the camera is isolated. When you put a lens on it and open the shutter. Any dust that my come from between the lens and shutter may fall onto the sensor. The gap between your sensor and shutter is clean but the gap between your shutter and lens is still exposed. So, once you open the shutter, the gaps join and any contaminations that may have been on the lens side may fall onto the sensor. My recommendation is do not use the shutter as you pointed out.

Well, looks like it's a Sony issue, no problem with the Canons, and they started this closed shutter thing. But Sony sensors have always been dust magnets, my ol a6300 is still the biggest gunk attraction of all, I don't know how he does it. The A7S3 is clean for now, and I have him over 10months now. And the Canon Eos R has the cleanest sensor of them all thanks to the shutter, never had a speck on it's sensor, and had him since 2020.

I believe it may have something to do with Sony’s BSI (Back-side Illuminated Sensor) that increases dynamic range and low light capabilities. Current is running too close to the outside of the sensor, which can attract dust more easily than Canon’s non-BSI sensors.

Hello brother. I need help. So basically I was changing lenses and a little bit of spit got on my shutter that was covering the sensor. It evaporated but left a dark little smudge i can still see on the shutter. Images still come out fine. Is there a way to safely, properfly clean the shutter? Thank you .

Like I tell everyone, the A7IV is a good camera but don't update for the A7iii, or if you are new to Sony don't buy the A7iv. A7Iv has a lot of good quality, but it's not worth 2.5k and you can find the A7iii for like 1600 (in new condition). The price of A7Iv is due to the chip shortage. It should be priced at $1,899.
