Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl is one of my favorite coming-of-age films. It tells the story of Greg, his coworker Earl, and their friend Rachel who is dying of leukemia. Greg is an awkward high school senior who makes films with Earl. Greg and Rachel become unlikely friends after Greg’s mother forces him to hang out with her.
What made me love this film so much is the journey Greg goes on throughout the film.
Today I want to analyze Greg’s character arc, and examine the different points in the story that creates his change, and explain how you can do the same in your own screenplay.

I don't know why this movie isn't popular enough. I liked it more compared any similar themed movies.

The screenwriter, Jesse Andrews, got to write the adapted screenplay from his own novel, and now he's also the screenwriter for the Pixar film, Luca!

That scene during Rachel's letter where Greg crosses the hand drawn bridge brings tears to my eyes every single time I watch it. Pure joy.

This is genuinely my favorite movie, the unique perspective on the loner terminal illness plot that seems overdone with things like Fault in our stars etc. it’s a breath of fresh air. And the acting is a fuckin 14/10 what Earl brought to the table in this movie changed the way I viewed supporting characters. Just amazing. Loved the video man excellent points from an analytical point of view as well, that’s a sub from me!

It tackles similar themes to Perks of Being a Wallflower like loneliness and letting yourself get close to others, but it still handles it in a way that doesn’t feel copied and is beautifully presented.

This movie is really magical. For me, it's the greatest love story ever told and it isn't even romantic at all. They were more like brother and sister. I can't believe Rachel had to go through all that without a father figure in her life, poor angel. If it weren't for Greg's care and company, she would have felt very alone.

Greg did like Rachel he said many times if this was a romantic movie or something like that they would make out he even envisions them snuggled he clearly has a crush on her

My favorite line of the movie, is Earl saying “titties.” It’s such a small dumb little joke that has nothing to do with the rest of the movie…. Yet it just fits so perfectly.

I'm currently writing my first screenplay, and I'm basically using this as my inspiration for the shot composition, emotion and lighting in my head. This inspired me to begin writing and hopefully directing movies.

Tyler has no references he is a newbie and tries you to sell his own course. It is a making money strategy and you will learn crap from him. It works like a placebo you think you making progress but really you only learn techniques which are not worth to learn and also brings you up from learning your own style of creating new ideas and stories. He only made 1 script, he has not won any Filmfestival/Oscar etc. It is the same for most of the courses. You do not need any paid courses to get good in writing. Do not listen to this bullshit!!!
