I dont get why plug and play is into the argument in the first place. What is so difficult about playing on PC. You buy a game , you install said game and you play it. In general you dont even have to even mess with the settings since most PC games automatically find your specs and adjust accordingly.

Here's an unrelated side conversation: There are some people who follow a name instead of an idea. Here's what I mean: Pretend I had two choices: an "open console" or a "closed PC" , then I would become a console gamer. To me it's not about a name - It's not about "console" vs "PC". It's about open vs closed. freedom vs controlled. As someone who owns close to 1000 games I'd consider buying a console if it allowed me to choose different storefronts, mod my games, break the DRM to have true ownership/make my own physical disk, host my own cloud save system with my own NAS server, take advantage of ultrawide monitors, or monitors above 4k and above 120fps, etc etc. If one of these companies sold an open console, I'd conciser it. If Android-OS one day gave me more openness and advantages than Windows or Linux - I'd consider it. I'm not loyal to the name "PC" or "Windows" or "Linux", I'm loyal to openness - I'm loyal to myself. Openness comes before "PC". Does that make sense?? Maybe I'm just getting into semantics at this point since I know PC means open and console means closed, but sometimes I feel like people forget that.

I doubt that anybody is using a PC because it's called a PC. That's a really weird argument to make. People use PC because of its functionality, not words in its name. Like, I know for myself that I'm absolutely not going to spend any amount of money ever on any console whatsoever because the words "backwards compatibility" simply do not exist in the console world in any meaningfully comparable way to how it exists on PC.

Whilst I was waiting for prices to come down to build my new PC (My old one broke due to water damage after doing me just fine for about 10 years) I bought a HP pavilion laptop for £500. It can still run all but the most demanding PC games just fine, and when at home I used it plugged into my monitor as a second screen and had no issues playing modern games whilst watching youtube (I played through cyberpunk just fine whilst running youtube on my other screen). When I wanted to travel, I just unplugged a few cables and brought the power cable (I have a decent second mouse I got for £30 and xbox controller). It would be very easy to set it up for easy use as a living room device by telling Steam to auto launch in big picture mode or using a wireless keyboard with built-in mousepad to launch games. I prefer a full on desktop, but I was never left wanting with my laptop and rarely used my xbox. It also only took one more step to setup than my xbox, and most games I know of automatically set graphics options for you so you only really need to go into the options to adjust things to your personal liking (eg turning off motion blur).

The adaptive trigger feature in particular was more annoying than helpful and the functionality was pretty well replicated without the trigger having to stop midway through pulling.

Games are awesome and just enjoy yourselves, I know I do

Can't you just use a controller with PC, though? And also... You can always just... Emulate the old consoles on your mid range PC. Duck station, PCSX2, Retroarch, Dolphin, PPSSPP, RPCS3, etc. Look into these. It's eye opening having generations of console games on one machine. And if you don't want to tinker with settings and stuff, with duck station and PCSX2, it really is just fire and forget. For the other emulators, they might have a slightly higher learning curve, but are well documented, so getting stuff working just requires you to check the wiki.

@ 16:20 There are PC games these days that support the PS5 controller's Haptic Feedback AND Adaptive Triggers feature. I know cause I use the PS5 controller to play PC games. I also know there is an app that allows you to use these features for games that don't support it natively yet. So these features are either available natively on PC or an app can give you access to these features for games that don't natively support it yet.

From personal experience, I was a xbox and PlayStation only gamer from 2012 to 2018, during that time, I had to get 2 replacements xbox 360s, a replacement xbox one, and a replacement ps3 because they all broke with time, costing me an extra £2000 or so. I swapped to pc in December of 2018 and got all my parts at a big discount, only costing me £850, and only had to upgrade my pc's CPU once in the last six years, and decided to upgrade my ram and buy more fans, barely bringing the cost over £1000 total. Half the cost in maintenance and I get access to mods, steam sales and keysites, I don't regret switching at all, I didn't even have to lose my controller, steam has better controller support than any platform, so every point about them is pretty much true for steam too, including haptic feedback even though I just turn that off. I regret that I used to be like these console warriors, it was a mindset based on my own ignorance, so it could be the same with a lot of these guys.

I'd rather lug around my gaming laptop over my switch any day of the week for gaming on the go. It even has enough space on the bottom below the keyboard to be a small but effective spot to use a wireless mouse one (though high dpi helps a lot there). It's not even that heavy at only 3lbs for it's weight and it doesn't compromise too much on screen size because of it either (still has a 15 in screen).

@@noset6434 well considering I have one of the OG switches I can pull game files from it's storage and port them over into roms for an emulator to play so I can do that too. Like Joe said though handheld pc machines like the steamdeck exist now which do what my laptop does without the hassle of carrying peripherals alongside it like my mouse and/or controller. However, at the end of the day this all comes down to game preference. One of my favorite games to play right now is honestly AC Blackflag because I've gotten back into the ship battles. That game is still one of if not the best single player pirate simulator out there and the ship combat isn't the actual main part of the game; albeit it is a big part of the game, but the game is still very much focused on playing as Edward not the ship most of the time.

Also I'm not sure if Microsoft is still even offering this but they had finance plans (no interest either) for the two series consoles that included xbox gold and gamepass ultimate. If you took out the price of the services from the monthly payments the part for the consoles would come out to $6 or $13 (or around there) which isn't bad at all tbh. If they are still doing it however it does almost completely remove the price barrier to entry for gaming on the xbox side at least. The only reason I consider it a good deal is the fact it doesn't have any interest and only lasts two years, so if you bought yours in 2020 or 2021 your payments are already done pretty much.

Using componentes less reduces the thermal stress by the cooling and heating cycles and by Electromigration, which basically is rhe diffusion of diferent atoms through the silicon due the electrical potential imposed by the currents used by the chip itself to work, eventually keading to shortcircuits and the inability for transistors to turn off given a conductive filament of diffused metal atoms through the gap in middle of the transistors. However all semiconductors are exposed to both problems, so consoles will suffer it too and even if you have your hardware turn 24/7, it takes decades for the problem to prevent itself, otherwise server hardware in daracenters would have a lifespan of months or a couple of years instead of decades. Hardware becomes obsolete way, way before thermal stress and Electromigration kills the component.

To me its very simple: Consoles: You want simplicity, a straight forward experience, you turn on the machine and you play, you'll have access to certain exclusive titles (in the case of nintendo) and you aren't willing to pay more than 500 usd for your gaming hardware. PC: You need to worry about the correct drivers versions, balance the best settings for your pc, balance your hardware (you can't pair a top end gpu with a crappy cpu or ram for example), the hardware costs more money and games are more buggy usually. But you get games from all companies (other than nintendo, at least legally 😂😂😂), with a decent rig you get better visuals/performance, you can update your hardware progressively with time, games are normally cheaper, you aren't tied up to 2/3 graphic settings chosen by the devs, you can choose which controller to use and you can use mods. People can choose whichever option and it'll be fine but they shouldn't be fanboys and say it's universally better because those are just preferences and there are pros and cons on each platform.

"balance the best settings for your pc" Or you can just use the default settings which the game sets automatically by detecting your hardware "the hardware costs more money and games are more buggy usually" Only the entry point costs more, but on PC you save money long term, and no, games are not buggier on PC usually. "at least legally" Emulation is legal, cope and seethe peasant.

Found this video while looking for other people's opinions on switching to console. While i agree that gaming on the PC is superior compared to consoles, i also don't completely disagree with the article. It is pretty expensive to keep up with the latest tech in PC hardware. Upgrading my graphics card and processor up to date would cost me more money than to buy an Xbox SX. Another thing i might add is that while it is possible to play local multiplayer on PC, it's much more convenient on console since it's already strapped to the TV. I enjoy sharing my gaming experience with my family but i don't have the luxury of my own gaming room. I have a bedroom where my PC stays, and i have a living room with a single TV. I often move my PC to play on the TV with family, but i'd be lying if i said that lugging my fairly heavy PC up and down the stairs is not tiring. I don't care much for exclusives, which is why i chose the Xbox SX. Backwards compatibility all the way back to the original Xbox discs is a very nice thing for me to have since i have some 360 discs that would become essentially trash after my 360 got RRoD. Some games were also never ported to PC, and if they were, i'd have to buy them again. Convenience is basically what i'm paying for with all of these services since i am completely aware that i can just pirate all of these games on PC if i wish to. I don't have plans on ditching my PC, but for the time being, it is nice that i have an Xbox that can run the latest games that my PC could not. Plus, my progress on Xbox syncs with my PC if i ever decide to use PC Game Pass in the future on a better machine. With that being said, i hope it doesn't discourage people too much to try consoles for what it's worth. My experience moving from my PC to Xbox has been pretty smooth sailing so far, and if there are some games i can't play on the Xbox, i can always get on my PC again.

Only reason to switch to console is for 1st party exclusives.

couch coop is not that available on ps5 , barely anything has it , tried to play Minecraft at a friends house , couldn't without a paid account , or at least if you can he couldn't work it out , used to like consoles myself , its how i got into gaming og xbox was mind-blowing at the time lol , but then a couple of generations later paid online accounts and 50/80 dollar games made me move to pc , and building pcs is something i get a lot of enjoyment out of , designing and building your rig is so satisfying , and cheaper in the long run if you know what your looking for and when to buy , plus you can get new games running on a very cheap rig these days , wont look amazing , but you can still play , journos are so misguided
@PanicOregon9 ай бұрын
The entire argument about exclusives is entirely void. because Emulators exist, Software to 'rip'(pulls the ROM from the CD/Cartridge) from games you buy exist. There's entire markets for Arcade ROMs that fell out of copyright due to age etc, There's entire underground communities that even dedicate themselves to dumping ROMs. Like legality even in play or to the side, the entire argument is basically like a skateboarder eating the pavement when they mess up one of their tricks.

If you already have a perfectly capable PC and not a potato rig, there is no reason to switch to console. The only good reason i can think for why you'd buy a console despite owning a PC is because you want to be able to play your already-owned console games on capable hardware.

Honestly I'm more of a console player. If I allready had a far superior P.C to a ps5 or series x I wouldn't switch to a console. But If my P.C was old and outdated and I had to buy either a fairly expensive P.C or a reasonable console I'd go with the console. 2 main reasons why I like consoles. The price is good and i can share my games with others.
@Patrick-bn5rp9 ай бұрын
Gonna be honest. While game sharing is nice, PlayStation Plus is 80 dollars a year and the ps5 is 499. If you pay for internet for 6 years, it will cost you 480 dollars. That's 980 dollars if you account for ps plus over the course of 6 years. You can honestly build a decent enough PC for 980 dollars or get a decent prebuilt. And your games will also be cheaper due to CD key websites and steam sales. Imo, more importantly, you can download ROMs and emulate old consoles free of charge. So when you buy a PC, you aren't just getting pc games. You're getting PlayStation 1, super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, etc... All free of charge. If we're going to be talking about "value", PC is where it's at. Second place actually goes to xbox because it has Dev mode, which lets you access some of the emulators mentioned above, but not all of them. Although you still run into the problem of "after paying for internet for a few years, you could have easily just built a mid tier gaming PC instead." Course, this only applies if you pay for internet. Which most players will. So I'd say that console is a good deal, but only for people who don't want to play with others over the net.

This couch co-op on consoles arguement is bullshit. I tried to play black ops 4 zombies with a friend on ps4, couch co-op and it wouldn't let us because he didnt have a PlayStation network account and wasnt paying for PlayStation plus. If you're forced to not only use an online account, but to pay to even use it then couch co-op might as well not exist.

it's so sad that one can't game on an cpu, it would just be.... what? amd has apus that one can game on and can be used with a later dedicated gpu later on, and they are going to be releasing the phoenix apu to desktop, with a chance for a halo version, what? sounds like a better deal over paying for high priced network fees to play the online titles.
@kAjtji9 ай бұрын
8:06 If you want to get that feeling, you should start playing niche games, that like 5 people even talked about. I'm happy (but also sad) whenever I play some game that is really great, real GOAT production, I look it up on YT and all I could find is like 2-3 videos with 100 views. Sony games are AAA blockbusters with most of them having +10mln copies sold, literally every person at least a little bit interested in video games know about them, maybe never played them, but at least they know.

This article looks like it's attempting to cater to Sony and Nintendo fanboys with the intention to dupe those idiots to spread this article around for ad revenue clicks. Also funny they are pretending you cannot hack a console while you can easily hack a console just as easily as you can hack a game on pc. Hell you can hack a switch and use it to put your games legally on pc and play it at higher quality legally. Also here is a counter argument to destroy this list and only need one reason: rather get a console and either spend $20 to $80 minimum a year in order to play your games online ontop of your internet bill? Or would you rather not pay a single dime for online play with access to games pass for cheaper than the console version and stick with your pc? In all honesty the only console worth value out of the three is the switch and that's only if you enjoy Nintendo exclusive games since most games on Xbox you have access to and Sony is putting games on Pc anyways.

He keeps talking about having PS5 and Switch for home and portable experience, that´s almost 1000$ entry to consol gaming. Thing is a lot of pc gamers don´t care too much about Nintendo games, maybe a few which are interesting but it´s a lot of kids games.

Yeah these clickbait BuzzFeed articles are always brain dead. I've been a console gamer for the majority of my life. I dipped my toes into PC gaming when I bought a very capable mid range gaming laptop back in 2020. Then the Steam Deck came out and that was the final nail in the coffin for me. I could play all the games I wanted with a console like experience. But I could also customize and tinker with it to get other stuff working on it as well. I looked at my Switch which had been gathering dust since I got the Deck, and at my PS5 which had been gathering dust even before that and decided to move fully to PC. Built a high end gaming rig this year, and I've definitely gotten more out of gaming than I have in years. Next console generation I won't even bother with PlayStation because most of the games I'm interested in are already on PC (even some of their exclusives so there's even less reason.) I will probably still play Nintendo consoles because I do like their games and while I know emulation is a thing (I emulate a lot of Nintendo games to begin with.) I still want to pay for the games before emulating, because I want to support the developers for their work.

There are loads of options with pre builds these days. You can get an idea of what suits your needs and budget through pcpartpicker (youtube doesn't allow links so google it) under the "guides" tab, then either look for a pre build using that as a guide or use it's tools and guides on how to build your own from scratch if you want to.

My PC is plugged into my 55' 4K TV. and most of my games I play with controller. Right now I'm writing this from my couch. I will go back to PC-only because I just can't afford console gaming anymore additionally to my PC. Times getting worse thanks to Biden and Scholz. However. I also plant to get a handheld PC and sell my Series X one day in the near future. I'm not telling people to switch to PC, especially Xbox is a completely fine platform offering the best value of all consoles especially with gamepass. And I'll very likely miss my Xbox. However... life is about setting priorities and I can't afford to buy games for both anymore and I can't do without the PC because I need it for so much more than just gaming. The whole debate is useless, because what is best for yooou depends on your needs and your priorities.And i can still stay in the Xbox ecosystem with my PC. And my needs have changed too. I play less games. Literally 80% in the last 5 years I played Bethesda games, 5% Cyberpunk and 5% Mass Effect games and 10% everything else. I'm getting old and focus on what I really want and need The console vs PC war is as stupid as console wars. Before telling somebody to get a specific console or a PC ask them what they need it for and what is important to them. Freedom, safety, convinience always have been exchangeable currencies.

For me PC will always be the better option and they're getting more and more accessible for not knowledgeable people. I hated launchers but they did make it easier to search for games and download them, update them, etc. I'm ok with them now, sort of 😂 Drivers updates on PC annoy me a little too much because on console it's either a console update 3 months apart from each other or a game update, that's it. You won't get updates for the graphics card, displays, peripherals, etc every week or month. That has to be on my top 2 annoying things about PCs in general 😂 Online games full of hackers is probably number 2 🤷🏻♂️ not sure when/if that can be ever stopped, and it's sad 😔 Any other reason to "hate" on PC gaming I find it "skippeable" 👍🏻
