I got my baby at 11 weeks, he was separated from his mother at 9 weeks and returned to the breeder after 2 weeks as they "changed their mind" on getting a pet as lockdown was eased 🙄 their loss as he's been nothing but a blessing to my home!

I’m also from South Wales! And just bought myself two female baby ferrets; Bree and Mavis. They’re 8 weeks old, and are great! (Though I was supposed to be choosing one Male, but I ended up with two females ❤️😂)

My first baby is from Petco and learned my lesson about the industry, then adopted my second baby from a rescue, training was definitely significant for both of them, but they'll perfect angels and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to adopt. My adopted baby did have some trust issues and doesn't like to be held as much, but it was so rewarding to see his progress in becoming more comfortable with me and our home

@@izanderschoeman7156 there’s been a shortage at the pet store (petco), but they’re coming back now. Just got my baby boy today! Couldn’t be happier ❤️ I looked for an adoption/ rescue situation for months now... the ferret shelters are still closed, and no adoptions around me due to the shortage. I feel very lucky I found my boy!

@@izanderschoeman7156 I understand there's a ferret shortage in the country as they've been using ferrets for Covid testing and, not sure if it's true, Ferrets are susceptible to Covid. I'm here in Tucson and there's waiting lists at Petco and the Shelter for ferrets, but I'm going to fly somewhere to get one and drive back.

My partner has a new ferret that we adopted at 9 weeks. She was recently weaned and was bitey in the first 2 days. However with behavioral training she stopped within days. He has years of experience with ferrets. She’s sweet, playful, and stopped the fear biting when she felt safe within 72 hours. We figured out the consistency which she likes her food. We’re introducing raw proteins as a supplement. She’s our playful chaos monster, she’s good with litter box training about 60-70% of the time she makes it, and she will fight sleep so we play till she slows down then put her to sleep in a safe area or in her cage. Depending on supervision

I just got my two babies (Riley and Sage) three days ago, they are not from the same litter (sadly they are Marshall ferrets, I have been trying for a very long time to adopt an older bonded pair but I fell in love with these two on a trip to a smaller well run pet store in my city). They are my first and of course are barely 10wks. Riley my girl started using litter box first day, Sage my boy started second day and he is a little more hit or miss with it. I started feeding them raw grinds right away and they took to it first try(they both eat like champs). Neither of them have nipping problems whatsoever! I am completely in love and so glad I feel like I truly lucked out with such a good pair! I was so scared I couldn’t handle kits but they are perfect. I’m trying to expose them to as much as possible at a safe pace. Nail trimming had been a little tricky but we’re managing. I cant wait for their first vet appointment. Update: Not even a day later and 1)Sage has discovered he loves to bite my toes pretty hard when I have socks on 2)Sage seems to have a blanket chewing problem and I found fabric in his poop, so now I have to re think the cage setup. I can tell he will be my “problem” child, but he is also a mamas boy and whimper/whines if he wants me to pay attention.

Kits be coming at you with those little razor chompers when it’s playtime 😂 AND THE BABY PAZU CLIPS R SO DAMN CUTE!🥺🥺 I believe it’s illegal here in the uk to sell animals under the age of 8 weeks, but some here even believe that kits should stay with their mothers at least until 11 weeks. Perks of getting a rescue is if you’re looking for something specific you can usually get that in an elder rescue ferret like energy levels, if you want a more ‘chilled out relaxed’ kinda fuzz ball it’s easier to determine with an elder ferret than a young one, and as Bryn mentioned some ferrets dont necessarily get on with other ferrets so if you’re looking to adopt only one, that’d be ur chance :D

Sadly enough when going through certain pet websites I often see people selling kits at as young as three weeks, I’m genuinely struggling to find ones even close to being old enough in Britain at the moment, usually I get my ferrets from a rescue and help look after them but after looking online first out of curiosity it does make me kind sick that people separate kits from their families so young

hey thanks for everything i do have a bad cage because my parents dont understand, they think 2 hours of out of cage and that they like their cage even though they dont so i had to take them in and block out my parents but thnak you for helping me learn how to give them the best livBTW my cage is the kaytee cage but i keep them out of it as much as i can

if you can’t properly take care of them, please give it to someone who can. this is in no way me questioning your abilities & education, i’m sure you’re very good with ferrets, but if your parents continue to be ignorant you need to give the lil creature a better home. i know this isn’t easy, but it’s for the better !

I work at a pet store and our ferrets come in so young... Usually 8-10 weeks. We definitely notice the behavior problems you mentioned like biting... We try our best to work with them and by the time they get purchased they're usually fairly good with people. We try our best to make sure whoever buys them knows what they're doing because we get really attached to our ferrets after playing with them all the time during our shifts. It sucks that they come from Marshalls because I can definitely tell they don't care enough about their health...

I'm very lucky to live five minutes away from the breeder I'm getting my first ferret from. She has been an amazing source of advice, encouraged me to come and meet the mother to see her health and how she took care of her newborns, showed me step by step how to raw feed, nip train and litter train, and has promised to continue to give me advice after I take him home. We had concerns about only taking one, but she was very reassuring and stated that if he was pining for a companion she would contact other licensed breeders she knows to find him a companion if she didn't have any left herself. She also gave me a list of vets within our area who are qualified to treat ferrets. As a first time ferret mom I feel so reassured,especially as he'll be young, and she doesn't give them away unless they are content in a trial separation period after weaning. I'm so excited even though it will be another two months at least until I can take him home :D

I live in the U.K. and when I get my ferrets, I’m getting 2 female 12 week old kits. The breeder I choose feeds raw and starts litter training before they go. The reason I’m getting kits is because I’ll get to see them grow and they’ll live with me for longer. And as a kit they haven’t imprinted in their food yet, so I can easily get them to eat raw straight away. It’s going to be easier as they would have only eaten raw and won’t even know what kibble is. I feel very fortunate that I live in England, where are ferrets are not inbred, and they live longer. We also don’t descent here in England, and we wait until they are 6 months old to neuter them, as they need to mature first. 😊

The part about older ferrets being more suitable for new owners is super interesting, because in my country it's very hard to get adult ferrets if you have no prior experience with them! We don't have pet stores that sell ferrets and backyard breeders are very rare (as far as I'm aware), so ferrets don't really get put into shelters because they're not easy or cheap to acquire in the first place. Which means that most of the time when people have to give up their older ferrets they go back to the breeders or to people who already have ferrets to give them companion. I definitely prefer it this way as it's much safer for the ferrets, but the difference between the countries is nevertheless interesting!

I got two of my ferrets as babies (8-9 weeks old) and I rescued one older ferret. I originally was told he was younger than he actually was, so when I found out he was 4 I was scared because I didn’t know what our future would hold. A year later he is happy and healthy living his best life with his two brothers, he is honestly my best ferret, but I did have to do extensive potty training with him. I don’t regret getting babies and I’d probably get one again, but I have one that is bonded to me and another that hates me to even touch him and I’ve handled him since he was a baby. So it really just depends! You can get excellent older animals and excellent younger animals! Pros and cons with both like the video explained!

So how can we tell if the ferret we want to adopt was weaned properly? Breeders don’t typically offer up all of that information. And some may say they wean them at 10 weeks but don’t.

So I love animals. Never have I owned a ferret. This week, I found a ferret and was always really wanting one. He's older... This is the best thing I ever had. Tears of joy everytime we play and I'm always giggling so hard. I'm on day 3. Totally smells like a wet towel, and I have sensory and hate stinky smells. It was a huge fear on the ferret but omg I'm sooo inlove. No aggression, very clingy, super funny.

Older ferrets are amazing! My roommate adopted a 5 year old male and he was the cuddliest loving ferret I have ever met. The hardest thing was adapting to his habits.

I’ve owned 8 pet store ferrets (all rescues though) and only 2 have had a biting problem. I’m not saying you’re incorrect I think you bring up very valid points but I really think it depends on each individual ferret! Not a risk I would take anyhow, definitely either rescue or go through a breeder.

So I never done my research on videos it was all Google but I'm a first-time ferret owner got mine one week ago and she's only 3 months old what are some tips to help me out because Monday through Friday I have school Tuesday and Thursday I have basketball practice for an hour sometimes basketball games that last all day like once a week then church on Wednesdays am I too busy to give her enough time I keep her out most the time I'm home though

I wanted to get one a bit older but it's not many who sell or any adoption places so I will be getting one from Alligator alley and they're getting them froma breeder as 8 weeks old I'm hoping I can handle it but I've been researching for a year and months so I know everything I need to ill be caging them when I work and while sleeping but take them out while I'm home to play and train Can I get a boy and girl kit without problems or should I get the same gender they are spayed and neutered and descented There is one on Craigslist for 450 but that's a whole paycheck for me and they want me to but they're cage tho I'm getting a double nation ciz they have a cat cage but yea

Got my kit from a reputable UK show breeder. He is HUGE, clumsy and hates being picked up lmao. At 12 weeks he's 1 kg and rams into everything with 0 corodination. He certainly is a handful but my other ferret has been showing him the ropes like how to use the litter box which has been a huge help.

I feel bad now for getting my youngest ferret. I got her at 2 months and she wasn’t crying for her mom she was very energetic and would bite. But me and my older ferret taught her. I’m not sure if I should take any extra care for her. I’m going to keep her none the less but I’m not sure if I should do anything extra to care for her.

I know this is a really old video, but you said there was a link in the description for mentors on switing and feeding raw and I'm trying to switch my two boys (and my future three girls) to raw. They're all on Marshalls right now which really sucks as you know, I just want them to have a lot better deit so they can live a longer, happeir, fuller, life.

After me and my older sister volunteer at our local shelter. So that way we can get to know ferrets and how to care for them. Soon we will be able to adopt ferrets. Although we won't be able to give them a raw diet. What ferret food do you think would give them the best diet?

I got a baby ferret from a pet store, before KZfaq existed and no experience and he was so great and awesome.. He was so tinny omg and I named him possum hehe. He bit me only ONE time and I popped him hard 😔 but he never did it again. He was my best friend hands down omg we was inseparable honestly.. 4 years later my bf left him out and I looked for him for months and couldn't find him 😢 I had posters with reward around neighbor hood but nothing. My boyfriend was super jealous of possum and I couldn't let go of the thought he got rid of him so after a 7yr relationship I dumped him cause he never helped me look.. I sill do and will always have a place in my heart for him, the best pet I ever owned.. now 20 years later I'm getting up the nerve to adopt another one and all that I have access to is a small town pet store 😑.

I’m getting ferrets for Xmas I’m 11 and I’ve done 2 years of research yet I’m not sure if I should get a baby or adult ferret btw I’m getting 2-5 ferrets

Where is the best place to access your raw transition guide? Im familiar with feeding dogs raw and transitioning them. However, our new ferret friend, Ferrous, is not interest in ANYTHING other than the Marshals dry food he was on with his first owner. If i wet it he wont eat it. So far we have solid nos to eggs (whisked), raw beef cuts (cut very fine), and my cats raw pre prepared food.

If you really want a you might need to get out of state to get it. But make sure to see were you are getting it.

Ferrets do not thrive in heat. They can get heat stroke over 80 degrees. They’re not common in the south for this reason.

It’s actually easy to get ferrets from outside of the country, I got my angora polecat that way, they had regular ferrets as well,

Bought a ferret at Pet Supply Plus , female was told was born in July so she is 3 months old. Questions: tried to feed raw chicken, egg yolk and Dry food...Noodles finally started eating though it concern me that she's not eating the right amount. But the one question that I have ask many time...if Noodles won't eat raw meat what is the best food to give her?

I bought my first ferret in the USA I'm from australia I had done research there but once I got here I didn't realize that the ferret industry is so bad in the usa I ended up purchasing a Marshall baby ferret from my local family pet shop I wish I had known about this stuff it's just not like this where I'm from so shocking 😢 💔

I’ve adopted/rescued three of mine and got 2 of mine here in the US from pet stores. All Marshall ferrets. They all had different walks of life and different personalities, and different situations they came from. All perfect angels :) In my area there are no independent breeders. The closest one is a few days drive I believe and they breed angora ferrets…when I lived in Japan they only had Marshall ferrets too in pet stores. They shipped them from here in the US they told me…I had two when I lived there. The knowledge here in the US on care seems to be traveling more in the right direction. When I was in Japan, there was no talk of feeding raw, going ‘cageless’, or free roaming…very small spaces for homes there, means even smaller cages for your pet. It’s funny how in different areas you learn different things…

I got my boy from a pet store, because it is extremely hard to rescue, I have checked my humane every single day for 6 months nothing, same for Craigslist. I can not take my boy to vet because vets here are not doing checkups because of the virus.

I want a baby ferret sooo bad but there are too many complications such as, ferrets eat raw meat and bones which is too hard to get, they also need a cage but my house hasn't got the space necessary for them to enjoy. Also I have a pet cat who doesn't get along with any other cats in my area and she might injure or kill the ferret so that's another thing stopping me from getting a ferret. This is very sad as I'm an animal lover :(

Hey! I recently adopted 2 ferrets (one year old and 2 year old) from a shelter about 2 weeks ago. The one year old kept biting extremely hard until about a week of settling in and now he doesn't bite hard at all. I wore gloves and got him used to being handled and now he is completely fine! It might just take some time for them to settle in and trust you/feel safe!

Do lots of research and watch all her videos as they’re rlly helpful, wrote it down and make sure you know how to take care of them. Also do not introduce your dog to the ferret!

Yeah cooked is okay… but the ferret can eat raw meat that what they would eat in the wild… it won’t make them ill

Ive had 7 ferrets, 5 were kits, two were 1 yr old. I have to say the kits were bonding better with me over time as they trusted me. Every ferret is different and not all ferrets like people or other ferrets. I would prefer any ferret, regardless of age as they are both very good. The positive aspect associated with kits is you can decide to neuter at 1 yr old and have control over when they are neutered. If you buy from a rescue and they neuter early and feed kibble, it is not always in the ferrets best interests. Plus I also implant my ferrets and the costs associated with this make some ferret owners avoid this essential treatment for AD and cancer.

I have a tendency to use Astrology to pick a ferret. I'm an Aries and decided to get me an Aries ferret one time. OMG! He was an ARies thru and thru, totally adventuresome. Living in Las Vegas I walked him on the Las Vegas Strip at night. I've had 2 Virgo's and they weren't nearly adventuresome as my Aries. My Moon is in Capricorn and one time I got me a Capricorn ferret, but he had his Mars in fun-loving Leo and what fun we had! It saddens me deeply and Astrology gets such short shrift in this country. I won't even date someone without knowing something about them astrologically, and one Sun's sign can be just a tiny part of you. The Moon sign will tell you a lot more about someone.

[Mod] Neither one is better than the other! The only difference is the eye color, and maybe some markings on the fur. Coat colors and patterns don't have relevance to ferret behaviors. They'll all act like goofy li'l ferrets :)
