Thank you so much for this. I had a mix where the perc blended well with the instruments, but I wasn't quite getting the low end body from the kick. I tried finding a new kick sample, but it wasn't working because everything had been constructed around the drum sound (before I realized the problem). It wasn't until watching this video that I realized it was OK to have the bass fill more of the low end than the kick. I always thought it was just a done deal that the kick was the low, the bass a little higher and so on. Anyway, I brought back some of the low end of the bass and it sounds so much better! I got the body I wanted and even the other instruments feel like they are sitting more properly now. You can go to bed knowing you aided one basement hack. :)

Another great video Bobby! I've got to say though, your drum sounds are absolutely awesome (especially the stadium-rock type snare) - are these EZ/Superior Drummer samples? They cut and crack so much and have an awesome distorted-type feel. Lovely tail too. How are you doing that (or is that just down to the sample itself)?

Any chance you could give details about the bass guitar that was used on the first example song? It’s got the quintessential “piano” honk to it and solid low end. Sounds like a straight up P-Bass but I’d love to know bass, pickup, DI, mic details.
