Sometimes an ex will will trick you into breaking no contact in order to ease soothe their separation anxiety, that they can still get you back (if they want). Sometimes they do this because they want to keep you as a backup, or because part of them still wants to be with you.
However, it will not help your position to reach out..
An ex trying to get you to break no contact is not enough for you to reach out.
You only hurt your chances of getting them back by reassuring them that they still have you as an option without having to even contact you. If they do reach out to you, then don't ignore them. Respond makes sense in that situation. But if they haven't made any direct contact to YOU, if it's just breadcrumbing (or a trick) from your ex, then you should ignore it.
