Quarantining all new fish arrivals to your tank is important and keeping a quarantine tank up and rolling at all times is not important. Here's why and what to do about it

That's an awesome looking tank Mr. Water do you have a video about filtration on that system and I see it's a peninsula style aquarium which I'm starting up so my question to you will be the return where is it ? How many returns do you have ? I purchase a drain from marine depot simular to yours to handle 120 gallons but I'm not sure if I should do 2 or 1 returns going over the brace or have a hole drill through the glass for the return. What would be your suggestion on that ordeal and 1 more question would you have the tank build where as it has warrenty or buy a tank and drill yourself which you would void the warrenty ?

What should I do if I dont have an established tank set up (getting ready to cycle a 22g future nano reef tank). I'd like to quarantine my new fish but I dont have the ability to use pre-existing beneficial bacteria. I dont want to risk an ICK infestation from day 1, should I just rely on a fresh water dip for the first fish? Is there any way around my issue so that I can properly quarantine my first fish?

Do you throw away the media afterwards or put it back in your displays sump?
@mrsaltwatertank6 жыл бұрын
sterilize it and put it back in your display sump

You want that filter media in the sump a good week to populate bacteria, not a day.

Ted R. You leave it in your sump until you need it. It goes in the quarantine tank a day or two before the Fish

Not sure why everybody wants to cycle their QT. It’s not needed. You control any spikes with water changes. Don’t over feed and feed heavy before the water change. No need to worry.

Shouldn’t you sterilize said media after quarantining sickly fish before you return it to it’s home tank?
@cymonous6 жыл бұрын
If your fish had a disease or infection, I would say yes. If you use copper, then it should be tossed away.

Only problem I have with this is you assume your DT is 100% free of infection and disease. If you transfer anything from your DT to your Quarantine it defeats the purpose of the quarantine in my mind. My QT has always been set up and cycled as it’s own system and I cycle using bottled bacteria. Adds a lot of time sure but peace of mind that a fish in DT will not be infected from something I missed in the DT
@cymonous6 жыл бұрын
Only problem with that logic is after you just quarantined your fish, it's added to your possibly infected tank. Supposedly. If you always quarantine and practice safe habits of adding anything to your tank, it should be infestation free. Thus, using media from DT should be safe.
