Ok stopped the vid to comment 1:23 to see if what I say is what you say. I have some project's that are easier to master then others and its not always about the mix, infact some project's I thought sound bad due to a bad mix where fixed on the exported marster single file so everything was in the right place in the stereo field it just needed some EQ. I'm going to say two main problems with your music not sounding correct is either 1 Fix EQ or 2 sound selection.

Hi there..I would like some guidance as I am new to music production..I have a 3 piece band (vocals/guitar, bass and drums) and plan to record the basic tracks live and then later overdub other parts in my medium sized room..Would it better to get a mixer to set the levels and record it on Audacity or get a multitrack recorder and do all our work there? If so, what type of mixer or multitrack recorder would be right for us? Thanks..

Hi Andrew. Depends what gear you already have, budget and how many inputs you'd like. The benefit of using a multitrack recorder is that they are very portable, often even run off batteries so very flexible. Check that they have enough inputs, Zoom make some great options. I have an R16 for live recording. With 8 inputs it's a great device for your needs. Records to SD card so easy to transfer files then mix on your daw. The other option I'd suggest would be a multi input audio interface, maybe the focusrite 18i8 then record straight into your daw. Hope that helps my friend.

@@realhomestudioofficial Thank You Boss..I hope I am not troubling you but the reason why I seeked for your help is that there are so many videos posted on the Internet on what to use for music production that it can be confusing..What I really want to know is - What is the difference of using a multitrack recorder like the Zoom R-16 compared with an Audio Interface such Scarlett Focusrite? What are the pros and cons? My plan is to record live with my Vocalist-cum-Guitarist but only to lay down my Drum part first..Then later he will do his actual Vocals and Guitar..and then later my bassist will record last..As for miking the Drums, since my room is not that big, I think 2 or 3 mics would be more than enough to pick up the whole kit..please advise

@sagayam8533 With an Audio interface it has to be connected to a computer. And you record directly into your DAW. With a multitrack recorder, it saves the files to the device and you can transfer the files later. The Zoom r16 is both a portable multitrack controller, and also an audio interface at the same time, so it does both (i think)

@sagayam8533 If you do 2 or 3 mics for the whole kit, you may not get as snappy transients (wall reflections create phase interference), and there won't be much flexibility in the mixing stage (you wont be able to increase the volume of one individual peice, or apply any kinds of effects independently.. etc...) Basically this would just be the "room mics" which is going to be more airy and distant/washy sounding. (usually room mics are there to add space and some stereo width, and some extra character behind the close-mics) But that might be cool. There are no rules in music. I once recorded an EP with my band using an iphone 4, but we took everything outside and played in the backyard lol (it sounded like shit... but in a really good way xD)

@@Linguae_Music Thank you kind sir for your reply..I am definitely looking at the R-16 as the device covers everything needed to record a small band (plus point is that it can double up an Audio Interface)..Yes, I am also aware of miking up the Drums in a small space but my room is the only place I have where we can do the recordings..I was actually advised to do some "room treatment" with soundproofing panels to reduce the wall reflections..I hope it would help..Wow..you recorded an EP using your phone 🫡..Send me the link to it please, if you have..Would like to have a listen..

ROFL, if your mixes suck just ignore them! Don't worry, get my free books that are there to sell you shit. My suggestion is don't take advice from someone who mixes in their attic with no acoustic treatment and who squashes all the dynamics out of their vocal take for their video.
