I remember being 5 years old on a trip to the planetarium and feeling this incredible connection, synergy, comfort, knowing, beauty of looking at the stars. Uh, it is. They do not "keep it to themselves to keep us in line". It hasnt been totally accepted for a terribly long time. I mean some of you are in your teens, perhaps older. Yet you take this idea to mean you are actually the universe. You're part of the universe just as you are the nation you live in. Did "stardust" make you? Well, over billions of years when a massive star explodes at the end of its life, the resulting high energy environment enables the creation of some of the heaviest elements including iron and nickel. The explosion also disperses the different elements across the universe, scattering the stardust which now makes up planets including Earth.

There is only one Truth about reality but sadly it cannot be explained or described through words. You can only experience it. Until you let go of the ego ( who you think you are ) you won't be aware of the Truth which is right in front of your eyes. You are not a person experiencing the Universe. You are the Universe experiencing a person. Reality is absolutely infinite. You are nothingness. You are the emptiness that contains everything possible and nothing at the same time. Paradoxically, Reality itself is a paradox. There is no limit to reality because limits themselves are within reality. Every possibility and impossibility already exists right now in the present moment. There is no escaping reality because reality is all there is and will ever be.

I, and every other living thing on this planet, are sentient stardust. When ancient stars exploded eons upon eons ago, in effect, that is when all living things on this world were born. And thinking about it like that, you are not twenty, thirty, forty or seventy years old, you are already billions and billions of years old. You are not in the universe, you ARE the universe. But The more I listen to Alan Watts the more I realize it's not about knowing its about realizing and understanding that we are all God pretending not to be God and just living to live. Like he said "the God hood is unknown to itself" all that life is, is a game. To have fun. And enjoy now.

Perhaps this is what Jesus realised. When he tried to explain it, everyone mixed up his sentiments and created an entire religion based on a misunderstanding. He understood he was the eternal energy of the universe manifested briefly as a human-being; hence ''son of god'. It's almost comical to think about really.

No not quite Jesus understood his nature of being 100% God and 100% man. His goal on this earth was to become a propitiation for our sins and reunite us with God in eternity. His message was clear throughout scripture. He gave us wisdom to allow us to live godly lives in the wake of his second coming. The religion (if it must be called this) was created long before and Christ simply fulfilled over 300 prophecies in his coming. The reason was because of our sinful nature and because “the wages of sin is death” we need a savior as our spirits had become eternally separated from God. We know there is nothing we can do to save ourselves . “For by grace you have been saved, through faith. This is not a result of your own doing but a gift of God; so no one may boast.” But simply believe in his deliverance, accepting our sinful consequences, and admitting the need of a savior, unlocks His eternal kingdom. Didn’t mean to share the entire gospel with you but I kinda did

the fact that you mention God proves you don't know Alan Watts quite enough. He is not a deist ( christian, Mulims or Jews " and the variants of each religion), he doesn't believe in a God who created the universe and therefore us. He is more a Pantheist, that means that Pantheists do not believe in a distinct personal or anthropomorphic god. Some Eastern religions are considered to be pantheistically inclined.

In Hinduism, there is a description of the 1st person to know this fact, the fact which is TRUTH itself about LIFE. We call him god. So, from that very moment, he's trying to wake the world since then, maybe from billion years, but some wake up some don't. I've not yet. Alan Watts did in the past century. So, my point is, making Human blossom, is a very very hard task even for enlighted beings working together. Anyways, I must say LIFE is so beautiful that nobody can give any explanation other than it being a dream of a being who is light itself. Let wisdom hit us all.

@@degaussingatmosphericcharg575 He makes no assertions, this is literally the reality of things, and science has shown this to be the case. That reality is that YOU are the universe. You are not something that was outside of it that was placed into it when you were born, you grew from it, you are something the whole universe is doing. The human condition (A product of our biology and evolution), makes us feel as if we are something inside our bodies (behind the eyes and between the ears). We think that we are the ego, which is the idea and opinion you have of yourself and the world, but we know that this is a complete illusion. The self is an illusion. This universe is just a big playing of energy, and the human being is just a complicated pattern of energy, and this pattern has given rise to consciousness and essentially allowed the universe to observe itself. When you realise this, that there is no duality (self and other) and that it is just one big playing of energy, you loose the idea that you are just some poor little thing inside of the universe, a stranger, afraid in a world that it never made. You are this universe, and there is no woo woo rubbish or outlandish claims made in that, it's just the way things are.

It's not about figuring out or understanding as that would be just another, albeit interesting, philosophy. Alan Watts is speaking these truths from his very EXPERIENCE of life. This experience is available to anyone willing to investigate their own nature. So what he's saying is interesting as an idea, but sublime as an experience...

+Pr3ssPl4y We are the universe, but we are different parts of it, therefore we are not the same being. It's a nonsense to call "you" me since that is logically equivalent as asserting that you don't have a conscious of your own. Try to think a little next time.
@Baumgardner
@Baumgardner 8 жыл бұрын
+ByRTD yO (byRTD) You are assuming separate consciousness must make something not part of a single whole. You have no logical basis to make that assumption. You have different parts of your brain that are separate - conscious and unconscious thinking. Perhaps we have a lot consciousness points, like a bunch of eyes.
@I_Am_Midnight-i
@I_Am_Midnight-i 8 жыл бұрын
Dr. Michael Baumgardner Are you trying to be stupid on purpose or are you just joking? My existence is the only thing in the whole universe I cannot doubt. I am aware that I am thinking, feeling, doubling, therefore I exist. Even an illusion requires my consciousness to exist. I can doubt the universe exists, but I cannot doubt my existence. Sorry but you failed. Yes, the proposition that we are the universe is sound and valid but not the proposition that we are the same being. Your flaw is thinking that just because we are part of the same being that therefore that makes us the same, but that is not true since we have different minds.
@I_Am_Midnight-i
@I_Am_Midnight-i 8 жыл бұрын
Dr. Michael Baumgardner Even if it's only one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, that still doesn't make us the same being by the simple facts that we have different properties such as different minds and experiences. You guys are confusing the idea that just because we are the universe looking at itself that therefore that makes us the same being ignoring that we have different unique properties such as different minds like I've said.

This is what we should teach in schools. Learning language, science, maths and other skills are important yes. But teaching kids that our very existence is an absolute wondrous miracle, that we are the universe, we are one and all, and that we should love ourselves and each other. That is the most important teaching, which all other teachings will follow after. Once we all know this, there are no limits to what we can achieve.

alan wxm I disagree with that. The realization that you are as much part of the universe as the stars and galaxies and planets out in space, in fact that you are simply a function or expression of the universe itself, is eye-opening. The ability to look beyond yourself as a superficial entity separated from the cosmos to what you really are; an action that the universe is performing, just as a galaxy is or a star is or anything else, is so invigorating as to give you tingles up your spine. I don't find it maddening. I find it enlightening. You are as much everything as everything else; in fact, what basically is "you" is everything.

Wuji Arts Purpose- the reason for which something exists or is done, made, used, etc.- an intended or desired result; end; aim; goal. So, by definition, purpose means something ( some-thing ) is done for a goal ( the terminal point, or an end ). Alan teaches us that what is ( the universe) is ultimately No-thing and without end, no future...only the eternal Now. Furthermore, he teaches that nature is defined as spontaneous, without premeditation, unplanned, purposeless. Our journey has no purpose, our being has no purpose. You can give it whatever purpose you desire (and we suffer because we desire)

Wow just had a breakthrough , if I am the fabric and substance of existence itself then I am everything, if my atoms are the same as other atoms then that makes me the same as everything. Now , I’ve done mushrooms a lot and went so far out in my consciousness that is was unbelievable that it could happen until I did , plus I’ve had bliss states that was pure , raining tears and just an opening of my being . Those experiences unlocked a door within myself . I still struggle with the eternal part . My consciousness is eternal ? After death my spirit rejoins universe love ? It appears it does . Until I experience this through direct experience I’ll just smile anyways cause it’s truly a beautiful miracle what we are , what we see and just the beauty all around . Opening up .
