I wish there was some way to tell if a battery was going to swell up before it swelled up that way your phone screen won't crack and you can get it replaced without having to pay for a new screen or anything else.

If you take off you case every now and then you can see the screen lifting before it causes any permanent damage or breaks.

There wasn’t much science here. He didn’t explain the actual process of outgassing and what happens on a chemical level and he left out the fact that over discharging or overcharging also cause lithium batteries to gas. Anyway, what happens is a disruption of the energy producing chemical reaction inside of the battery. It’s chemistry. Whenever a chemical reaction is disrupted a byproduct can be created. With lithium batteries the byproduct is a hydrogen gas, hydrogen fluorine, whichever you wanna call it. When the gas build up ruptures the battery it can vent flames because oxygen is a oxidizer and can ignite hydrogen gas on contact. Lithium batteries are very volatile. That’s science. Lol.

You need to keep your phone cool while charging to help you could place phone in front a fan or AC it will prevent swelling.

If it is a battery issue then remove it and plug the comp in wothout it it will be fine and you will not have the battery swell up anymore

I once had a 6s lipo battery blow up 3 feet away from me, luckily it was in a metal cabinet, not a phone battery but goes to show that all batteries can be dangerous and unpredictable

just a note, the "certified accessories" are not that different from the non certified. Half of the charging circuit now it's located inside the phone and that's also the reason why you can leave your phone/laptop or anything with lipo/liion batteries plugged in.

Cool when the phones don't come with their own bricks anymore, some don't even include a cable! It's like they want us to pay extra for accessories, many of us would buy from a Third party company, and then they prefer our devices to have a short-lived technology, so we buy the new product wait a minute!

The charge controller is in the phone, not the brick or cable. Only a really cheap brick or cable would cause damage to a battery.

The worst thing that could happen with a bad cable is shorting out the charger, but bad charger can literally lead to death from electrocution (I saw chargers on KZfaq that had normal 1kV capacitors instead of Y2 between primary and secondary side)

The speed of the charge doesnt exactly matter, as long as it doesnt overheat. If you use a fast charger id suggest using it in cooler environments

Mine did that a couple weeks ago. The battery wasnt working right and my phone would say ots at 100 when it was really at like 30. And my power button doesnt work very well so this phone has been a struggle

OMG THIS MAKES SO MUCH MORE SENSE!! I was at a family party, prob 90 degrees and that was not normal (I live in central coast cali) and I had a LG phone. Lets just say after I didn't. The sun was directly on it and it worked fine before but I was so confused why it stopped working. I guess this is why. TLDR: LG under direct sunlight and stopped working and i didnt understand till now.

I gotta admit that I never used MFI certified anything and will use whatever cable I have on hand. I’ve been using iPhones since the second gen and I’ve never had a battery swell or prematurely die. Maybe I’m lucky or maybe it really doesn’t matter.

Better to use a known good charger. Manufacturer approved is sometimes a waste of money and does not guarantee quality. Even genuine charging cables do break. If charging is slow, it usually means the cable is going bad and you need to get a new one. It's not magic... Also you didn't explain *why* batteries puff up.
