If you ask an astronomer which sign are you?
You'd probably make him run away immediately.
Just...astrology is very different from astronomy.
Why?
Because that question is telling him that you probably believe in...horoscope and astrology.
And an astronomer knows there's no way stars and planets can influence our lives.

Stars are nothing but gas balls that burn hydrogen and helium, and eventually die, forming other stars or black holes.
Over time, someone has tried to give some sense to some stars pattern, and every culture had its constellations.
For example, the Chinese constellation for Bull (Taurus) is an Ox, and the one for the Twins (Gemini) is a Tiger.
Of course, nowadays we all agree on the name we give to constellations, no matter which country are you and which is your cultural background.
Now, we see stars projected on a two-dimensional sphere (the sky), but they are instead distributed in a 3d space, which is to say that, for example, stars in the Ursa Major constellation are light years apart in “depth” and they're not lying on the same bidimensional plane: this is pretty obvious.
But there is one more thing to say: your zodiacal sign is wrong.
Why?
The answer to this question is, simply, Earth's axis precession.
But if we want o understand it better, we should take a step back to 1894 bc, because the zodiac was invented by Babylonians around that date.
The Babylonians lived in Babylon, one of the most famous ancient Mesopotamian cities, which is roughly where modern-day Iraq is.

I've tried to explain this to people, but people don't believe it. If you use a star app you can see the sun is not with the zodiac sign it was thousands of years ago. So, if the constellations shift by one degree every year, will this effect the seasons? Did the Babylonians see December in August?

Fun fact the zodiac symbols were created at least 40,000 years ago some of the zodiac symbols were painted in caves and carbon-dated

Carbon dating is very unreliable though and is based on some presuppositions that cannot be demonstrated to be true.

It works, nothing is 100% but looking back and forwards I find key events have matched the astrology 70% of the time. Same for relatives I've looked at!

Sun Signs are only a small piece of Astrology. Planetary orbits (natal and current) are also taken into consideration. There are astrologers who don't even use sun signs anymore for just this reason e.g. Archetypal Astrology (Richard Tarnas and many others)

The point of this video is that most astrological signs today are a "one-off" mismatch due to the shifting of the Earth's axis over the thousands of years since the Sumerians first charted the Zodiac. So you are actually in agreement with what the video is saying.

WRONG. Let's get this straight. The zodiacal signs were laid out as reference points by Ptolemy (and possibly Hipparchus). The SIGNS DO NOT correspond equally with the constellations and Ptolemy knew that. It was a way of dividing up the sky to refer to the parts of the sky. It was a reference system, such we might use declinations and righ ascensions today. Because a lot of astronomy enthusiasts don't know about that bit of history, they make some false allegations. NOW the starting point of the Zodiac was at the equinoctial point or vernal point, where the ecliptic meets the celestial equator; when the sun is there it marks the first day of spring. Now of course there is the precession of the equinox changes this point slowly over time. The constellation on the background does not remain forever in Aries as it did around the time of Ptolemy. Now it is in Pisces. The question is do you continue to call the first 30 degrees of the sky (Aries), the so-called "tropical zodiac" or do you call it by the actual constellation on the vernal point (Pisces, as of now in 2023), the so-called sidereal zodiac? For some it's arbitary, for others it's very important. The point is that a lot of astronomy enthusiasts make the mistake of believing that the zodiac was intended to correspond exactly with the constellations and that they were just ignorant for doing as they did. I've tried to make clear here that the ancient astronomers/astrologers used the zodiac as reference points. Ptolemy certainly did not have the knowledge we possess today, but he was no dummy. Reply

Western snd tropical astrology doesn't consider precession, while Vedic astrology inherently uses it and hence the difference of tropical to vedic is 24 degree less...that means if westwrn charts show libra its virgo most of the times in vedic .

I think astrology might have some bearings, but is very limited and can be wildly inaccurate based on your own choices in life as well as other things. For example my first house supposedly describes a fact about me that is straight up the opposite in reality. I’m not even being biased because not pleased with the result, just a straight up fact. This essentially proves it’s at least somewhat in accurate

Well it's bcs u r an Aries ♈ I know this as the calendar i follow is accurate, i can confidently say that this is true bcs my calendar has different zodiac signs (which we call nakshatras or Rashi) on each day and they are unique every year and the day u r born will have a rashi which could correspond a zodiac sign. Thus i can exactly find the zodiac sign of a person

There’s two different Zodiacs, as I understand it; Sidereal and Tropical, the latter typically used in the West. It is this which is being judged as being “wrong” but I think this is not entirely true but rather misunderstood. The Tropical Zodiac follows the Ecliptic, not the Constellations, although it does use the same symbols. With Tropical, the symbols are divided across the Ecliptic with 0 degrees Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn being the points of the Equinox and Solstice in time, rather than Space. So, it remains unchanging, and therefore consistent, throughout the “precession”. It simply follows the Sun’s path, which always has the same dates for the Equinoxes and Solstice. Sidereal, on the other hand, follows the Constellations. This, because it does so, references the Constellations in their actual positions as they are now and does not have the perceived “error” accused of in the video. In both cases, Tropical and Sidereal, the references are accurate. What is being misunderstood in the video is that Tropical follows Constellations as they “were” when, actually, it isn’t. It’s following the Sun’s path around the Ecliptic. It is an understandable misunderstanding though, because the same symbols with the same meanings are used and their association to where the Equinox and Solstice points are is based on earlier positions. But those positions, once determined, and were determined with understanding and meaning, do not change.

We can relate the tropical zodiac to the constellations, by constructing an “Ayanamsa”, precession correction. It’s a calculated angle, along the ecliptic, from the vernal equinox to the start of Aries. If we visualize this Ayanamsa angle as a pointer attached to the Sun, then as the Sun enters the averaged constellations for its sidereal signs, it’s Ayanamsa *points* to the constellations for its tropical signs. The First “Point” of Aries isn’t where the Sun enters Aries, it’s where it’s Ayanamsa *points* to Aries, by definition the vernal equinox. It’s *of* Aries, but not *in* Aries. It’s shifted by the Ayanamsa. Tropical and sidereal are both correct, but sidereal aligns the signs directly, tropical does it indirectly. What is wrong, however, or at least confusing, is terminology. Tropical astrologers say the Sun enters Aries on the vernal equinox, but it’s inaccurate, because the Sun actually pushes it’s Ayanamsa into Aries. The Sun itself is in Pisces (as of the current age). If we were to follow the actual Sun against the actual constellations, we would have to use sidereal.

@@rarf2142 You're a tropical Scorpio, the Sun was in the shifted *sign* of Scorpio (not the constellation itself, shifted from that), and you're a sidereal Libra because the Sun was really in Libra.

My bday is February 27 and I don't fit the definition of Pisces so I always knew it was b.s. because my science teacher in 4th grade told us the constellations don't match our monthly calendar or the previous calendar we used. So when people in high school (mainly girls)were into horoscopes I never fell into that b.s. you are not your "Zodiac Sign"

The mainstream astrology is using the wrong dates. I know 99.9999% of people will still keep following the wrong dates until the end of their lives and think a Leo starts at July 23th (rofl) and treat Cancer people as Leos simply because they don't know f about astrology. I gave up on correcting people and find it more satisfying knowing they got it wrong and aren't even aware ;)

Astrology is legitimately the grid. Astronomy is legitimately the stars, planets, celestial bodies, etc. Astrology does NOT change, only Astronomy changes. Astrology is a base grid forma, like a board game. That base function describes Astronomy, the pieces. Both are different, yet similar. Astrology describes base characteristics in said grid area. Astronomy says what's out there in the grid, in detail. I legitimately do not get how people do not see how relevant and important Astrology is. Since Astrology is fixed across time & space. Astronomy is mutable or variable across time & space. It's not that damn difficult to comprehend. Astrology is the clock, the 12 times. 12 dimensions. 12 directions. Astronomy describes what happened, what is there, in those time zones. If you do not believe in Astrology and/or Astronomy you're living in a delusion of granger. Denial. Not accuracy. - •Astrology is like a clock or a compass, a tool or a map. It's fixed. •Astronomy just describes what's there in reality, "right now" but really isn'tbecause of time dilation, and other gravitation anomalies with space & time. But it changes.
