i only saw the show last year but ive been obsessed with the music since i can remember! i don't think anyone's prepared for how incredible the vocals are going to be, specifically we're going to hear ariana sing in a way we've never heard her sing before 😭

I saw Wicked back in June of 2016 on Broadway in NYC and i remember it being incredible! Cannot wait for this movie!

The reason why they have Dorothy in there is because in the broadway version they do touch up on what happens to Elpheba before, during and after dorothy came to Oz

ooh, if you guys dont mind breaking a bit further toward broadway i think you'd love hadestown! its a jazz/folk opera retelling of orpheus and eurydice. the poetry and lyricism of the show is so layered and beautiful- it's fascinating to take apart. im not crazy enough to ask for the full two hour cast recording lmao, and while the opening number is always a good place to start, the four songs from "Way Down Hadestown" to "Chant" are a solid hook into the music and main story!

for context this is like fully an extension of the wizard of oz. the first two acts are the backstory and lead up to the events of the wizard of oz which actually happen in this play aswell like beginning of act 3 if i remember correctly. and then the rest of the show is what happens after the events of the wizard of oz movie.

Michelle Yeoh’s character is one of their teachers. Elphaba and Glinda are attending Shiz university and become roommates. Eventually their teacher discovers Elphaba’s magical abilities and is told if she can harness them she can meet and work with the wizard. Which eventually leads her and Glinda to the emerald city and it plays out until Dorothy arrives at Oz and the story you already know, The Wizard of Oz.

Wicked is based on the musical that’s based on the book about Elphaba, a green skinned misunderstood girl who eventually becomes the Wicked Witch of the West and her friendship and rivalry with the girl who becomes Glinda the Good Witch. I will never forget my first experience of seeing the musical and seeing all the beautiful sets and the costume designs, as well as the amazing talented cast. And I had just recently saw it again this past Christmas as I was introducing it to a family friend, so I am so hyped to see this iconic story come to the screen! And ironically Emerald is my birthstone and the first musical I ever performed was the Wizard of Oz where I played Professor Marvel and the Wizard. 🧹🫧💚🖤🩷🤍
