The plaintiff was diagnosed with breast cancer and went to the defendants to buy a wig. She says she needed a wig made with real hair. She washed the wig with shampoo and blow-dried it, but then the wig started to melt. She’s suing for the cost of the wig. The defendants argue the plaintiff’s family started threatening them.

I find it interesting that the defendant hired a lawyer, which would cost her much more money to fight this lady in the long run, rather than just refund the money. I think one of the lines in the beginning from the plaintiff set the stage "she wanted the wig with quick turn over". I think the defendant was going to get a real hair wig, but those take time. I think the plaintiff really liked a wig that was synthetic so they just said "yeah yeah sure, here you go" thinking they won't hear the end of it because wig owner don't typically get their "hair" done.

This same exact thing has happened to me, the “human hair” was the wrong length and texture and didn’t even match the box! I couldn’t get the owner of the company (SamsBeauty located in Rosemont, IL and the website) to come face to face with me. She instead argued with me through her employees walkie talkie before finally giving me a “courtesy” refund. The hair was a $300+ gift to me and had I not been a seasoned Cosmo and Weavologist, I would’ve installed the hair and worn it a while before realizing it wasn’t human and by that time I wouldn’t have been able to hold the company accountable and get a refund. It takes a special skill to tell if the hair is human BEFORE washing, most ppl can’t touch the packaged hair and tell. I can tell by the sheen that this is a blended wig (synthetic fibers mixed with human hair sourced from different donors). It probably can’t take more than 350-400 degrees without melting.

Those defendants are shady and they know they are. And then to accuse her of trying to scam her insurance company is so low down. If they truly care about cancer patients why did they immediately go to “check our refund policy?”
@ButtonsCasey

Just because someone has a horrible disease doesn't mean they can't scam people or companies. You'd be surprised at the number of sick/injured people that do in fact scam or try to. It's probably easier, IDK. As far as the refund policy, I mean things do cost money and time to make. Cancer is one of the most horrible things to go through, but that doesn't mean people can't be dishonest or they should get things for free. I want to add I am not saying one way or another with this case. Just don't be so quick to believe someone because they are sick. For all we actually know, all three of those people are huge AHOLES.

Right, they didn't care that much otherwise it wouldn't have gotten that far. They know damn well that wig was synthetic. The plaintiff obviously didn't know much about wigs but that was their job to educate her while in their store. They just wanted to make a quick sell of someone who they probably felt was desperate because of her health issues. Smh. Glad she got her money back.

The male defendant sure seemed dodgy to me, first as soon as he walked in he kept looking over at her trying to intimidate her with his ugly pink glasses, then when asked questions instead of answering the question started trying to prove she was an evil woman. Then we get the charity card, look at all the things we do for charity, back to tarnishing the Plaintiffs reputation, then back to we offered to set up up a charity in her name. He might have had a chance of winning if he bothered to prove that she was sold a real hair wig instead of the personal attack on her, wonder how many cancer charities wiped his store off their books after seeing this.

Something is clearly off about the beauty shop guy. No sane guy would wear a pair of women's glasses to court, much less ones that draw even more attention because they stand out so much from otherwise normal attire. Also, I've never seen another litigant ask to be identified by their generic profession/job title. People ask to keep their surnames private plenty of times on the People's Court, but I've never seen a defendant or plaintiff, say, representing a Honda dealership be identified as "Car Dealership" when they are introduced.
