Forklauncher What I mean is that there are certainly darker aspects as this is an Atlus RPG. The "anticipated to be rated M" is a clear indication of that. That said, the #FE (# is not a hashtag, it is a sharp note) is not for hype it is simply the person who named the game not recognizing that while a sharp is very important to music, and therefore important to this game...Not many people actually know that symbol can be sharp. Some don't even know it can mean "number" and even less seem to know it can also be called a "pound" not a hashtag.

Senario Considering the game's modern setting, somehow a hashtag seems more likely than a number sign... but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. The only thing that could save this game for me is if all of this was a giant fakeout, and the entire game is like a satire or social commentary on idol culture... but I'm not holding my breath.

Literally nothing was revealed today except character names and how the game is "Fire Emblem". Also, clearly Japanese targeted marketing that doesn't work so well in the west.

Senario The katakana underneath the FE says "Shaapu Efu I", which can translate to Sharp FE. Hope this helps.

shunkwugga It's not. SMT x FE gives off the idea of a crossover. Combining elements of 2 franchises is not a crossover. Unless there are some characters from MegaTen, I fail to see the need to first announce this as SMTxFE when it was never going to be.

I hope they have FE Characters from Tellius/Elibe since it looks mainly Akaenia/Awakening focused right now. Still, it looks so good! When it was first announced I was expecting a 3DS game, but seeing how nice it looks makes me glad they went for Wii U.

Yu Narukami Actually, they did show gameplay just now on the Nintendo Treehouse Event. :D The gameplay looks really cool actually, turns out the Mirage are actually sort of like Personas or Demons, though they have a personality and can act alone in battle when doing some special attacks. Anyway, the game is perfect for me! :D

Honestly give this story a chance atleast it's trying to be original.

TheGoldminor Yes, but Kingdom Hearts still had from the trailer alone a freaking ton of FF elements. The spells are the same, FF characters everywhere, MC having a name related to the sky....having original characters in a crossover is not too much of an issue, really. I'm willing to give it a chance. As a _standalone_ game it does look good enough. But, this is _a crossover_, so my expectations are what I expect from a crossover first and foremost.

If before they hated geeks/nerds because they were into things that most others were not (though not bad) now that geeky/nerdy stuff has gone mainstream those people have moved onto hating currently niche groups. I for one am keeping an open mind because there are plenty of games that look bad but I end up thoroughly enjoying. We've seen 2 trailers that have given us almost no info about the game itself, so I'll just wait till we at least see something before making any kind of judgement. Straight up dismissing a game and calling it "weeaboo trash" is how you miss out on great games.

arkane9b I think there's going to be plenty of dark stuff in this, I mean the first trailer showed a ruined Tokyo cityscape at one point afterall...and even the most upbeat stuff in the Shin Megami Tensei franchise like Persona has plenty of dark stuff alongside the brighter aspects...but I think all of the, for lack of a better word, cheeriness in the trailers so far is pretty much just an illusion and in the actual game the other foot is going to come down pretty hard...

***** Personally, I do not mind people liking this for what it is. There is quite a bit of color, something lacking in games these days. The combat animations are very flashy and nice to watch. Finally, the designs of the demons are bizarre and are the highlight for me. However, what some people need to understand is that some people are disappointed at the game for not appearing very Fire Emblem or SMT like. Those series tend to use more serious, not necessarily gritty, plot lines than idols, dreams, and stuff (the description they gave us is very vague, so I will leave it as that). One has to admit that the storyline at least appears to be incredibly campy, even by Persona or Awakening standards (Disclaimer, I adore Awakening and I want to get into Persona 4). Also, it seems that the Fire Emblem and SMT elements were put into the background. It's like being promised one thing, but given another. Perhaps there is not a justification to be mad as some folks are, but disappointment seems reasonable for me. Maybe there this is all an incredibly meta statement on the state of the idol industry and the whole thing is just some large deconstruction, but I don't think that appears to be true. But my statement to the people who like the game for what it is, go right ahead. While I can voice my displeasure, you can just as well voice your approval. Don't let me tell you what to like.

They never lied about anything. That was a trailer with concept arts showing they were going to do a collab with Atlus between the SMT and Fire Emblem franchises. The dungeons are designed like SMT games, the battle system is pretty similar to IV and they're using redesigned FE characters to fit the modern Japan thematic from many Megaten games and sub franchises. Take it as a new related franchise. I'm not even going to answer you directly about the anime industry. The only thing plaguing it are people that think it should be aimed at westerns. Not saying japanese media is superior for being japanese, it's just different, and things being different is good. Also, Fire Emblem was originally based on generic medieval fantasy characters. Dragon Quest was a huge inspiration, it always relied on archetypes. And Persona 4 isn't killing mailine SMT. Look at how many normal Megaten games were released after it. P4 had only two spinoffs and re-releases. Yeah, really milking it dry. Anyway, not trying to change your opinion. If you dislike it, fine, but I'll never agree with the "this game isn't aimed at me, so it's bad". Don't even know if it'll be good, none of us haven't even played the game.

Dimentioluc I'd also add to this that the Fire Emblem characters have always looked and been drawn like characters from an anime...the specific anime style has changed and adapted over time and I'd assume depending on what looks are the popular/modern look, but it's *always* looked like it was an anime since day one because that's the Japanese artstyle. Complaining about Fire Emblem looking like it's from an anime is like complaining about the the Looney Tunes looking like a Western Cartoon...it makes just about as much sense. Duh, a game made in Japan is going to look like the artsyle that the Japanese invented/prefer/use.

It can be done, and should be. The voice talent here is too good to replace with just a dub devoid of the the rich emotions that Japanese VAs are so good at conveying compared to their English counterparts. I know this may be hard for some to process, but one of the reasons I play Japanese games is so I can hear the Japanese language being spoken. I find it aesthetically pleasing to the ears and want to immerse myself in it. I don't care if I have to read subtitles. I'm already used to it from watching anime. Instead of expecting the media to conform to my preferences as a native English speaker, I choose to consume it in it's original form, while keeping an open mind and accepting the differences that come with it.

***** Explain this for me: Why did the E3 trailer played during the Digital Event, which was specifically made for an English-speaking audience, give us the names of the JAPANESE VAs? Why would Nintendo even do something like that if they had no real intention of including them in the Western release at all? It goes against logic. The answer is quite obvious if you take that fact into consideration when deducing what's going to happen later on when this game is finally localized for the West. The only question now is will there be an English dub to accompany the Japanese one? Considering how much trouble the development team went through to find talented enough VAs that could both act and sing well, I wouldn't count on Nintendo being that eager to expend more resources to do it all over again to try to appease a bunch of close-minded people who've no intention of buying the game because it's not dark and gritty enough for them.

And PLEASE dear god, don't translate the lyrics.
