@@SergiuCosminViorel Gonzalo Lira was a sham journalist and a pickup artist showing westerners how to wife a Ukrainian woman; "they're easy and cheap if you have funds". He only started war commentary when Russia invaded. His geopolitical inside was less than average. I mean, he didn't deserve to die. But there is no proof whatsoever that he was murdered. Same with Navalny. Lira was a chain smoker however, Ukraine is a cold country, and he died of a long disease. So there's a significant chance that he just died. With no malevolent plot behind it. Perhaps you could say he died of negligence, so he didn't get adequate medical assistance, and could perhaps have survived if he was in a country being able to provide better medical care. Ukraine, during a war, isn't necessary a country with great medical facilities. Anyway, just wanting to point that out to you. He isn't really an admirable person. More of a cynical opportunist, moving from pick up artistry to geopolitical commentary only when Russia invaded. He also was quite misogynistic and demeaning about Ukrainian woman in general. I didn't really like him, honestly. Sad for his family that he passed, I guess.

I was happy to read Moscow Time then, or whatever the free English-language newspaper was, and its sister newspaper in St. Petersburg, I always took these newspapers from hotels, mostly to study English, there were phenomenal tabloid stories about shadow life that I still remember, and practical experience of comprehending it for English-speaking expats. And so many years later, after Matt's testimony in Congress, I was surprised to learn that he was one of the most active journalists of that very newspaper. Then I read, already at Matt's, that not all of his colleagues endured the temptations of those fun times.

I agree that the treatment of Assange is wrong, but you can't compare the two. Assange actually leaked classified documents. He will receive a fair judgement from a fair court, and will be prosecuted over laws, that are wrong, and to harsh, but still laws. Navalny was an opposition figure. First poisoned for being against Putin. When returning he was prisoned for fraud(it's always tax or fraud, if the system just don't like you). Later dieing in prison, right before the "election".

Sleepy Joe and UK had a lot to say about a Russian national who had only 3% support in Russia, who wanted to drive out immigrants from Russia, but have practically nothing to say about Palestinian Americans stuck in the prison called Gaza, nor American Gonzalo Lira, who died in a Ukrainian prison, nor Assange, held captive in UK since 2019, in solitary confinement over last few years without any trial etc etc etc etc.

In Macedonia we also had DA - democratic alternative, with the leader, CIA trained, Vasil Tupurkovski. Once they were part of the ruling coalition this party got us seriously close to recognize Taiwan as an independent country.

Thing to understand is that the term has been hijacked. The US Democratic Party was the party of slavery, segregation and Jim Crow laws. Not much democracy happened there. The US Democratic Party is now the party of censorship and cancelation, of applying punitive measures to change mindset and beliefs. The US Democratic Party screeches out "Protect Democracy" in unison WHILE attacking democracy. Chinese Communist Party Chairman Mao incorporated democracy into the CCP, but it was only for the ruling elite to deal with each other. They used brutal tyranny to control the masses. So when "democracy" gets thrown around, you have to ask, which democracy?
