Join me and ‪@GrizzlyGaz‬ as we explore Bleaklow Moor in search of some plane crash sites. The B-29 Overexposed site is probably the most well-known on this area of the Peak District. We visited this site first up near Higher Shelf Stones, then carried on, down part of the Pennine Way to find the more secluded site of the Blenheim Mk.I L1476 wreckage.
After a decent 12 mile hike, we wild camped back near the trig point on Higher Shelf Stones with far-reaching views spanning from Kinder Scout, all the way across to the city lights of Manchester.
I was in my Wild Country Helm 1, and Gaz had his Vango Starve 200 (EXPERIENCE don’t ya know!). We both had matching Light Tour sleep mats (ahhhhh cute) and ‘same-but-different’ down quilts.
Obviously we had loads of fun and banter along the way, so come along!

Top video Ben. It was good to hear the banter between you and Gaz. I don't know if you'll remember, but I said "Hello" to the two of you, when you'd parked up at the top of the Snake Pass. Enjoyed that one. I’ve only ever done solo wild camping but it looks like a laugh a minute with Gaz 😂 Tried one of those Firepot meals ages ago and it tasted ok but not better than other ones out there for that price. I tend to stick with the wayfayrer ones because they’re cheaper and don’t use up valuable water in summer months. Every tent should come with a Fendi.

Good video. Like how you don’t reveal the location of the second wreck. Mind you it’s not an easy one to get to for most day trippers. There’s another crash site not too far from ‘Over Exposed’ over to the South East in the bottom of a clough. Also not far from where the Blenheim is there’s a Blackburn Botha wreck basically between Near and Middle Black Cloughs. Had a group of colleagues from GMRT avalanched in Crooked Clough just below where you camped . Bleaklow can be grim even in summer.

@Voodoo_Ray
@Voodoo_Ray Жыл бұрын
Because. A. Some are protected sites under the War Graves Act and B. When these aircraft crashed there was no way to get the debris off the moor except manpower. Anything of a sensitive nature including the bodies would have been recovered by the RAF MRS and sometimes fuselage parts were rolled into adjacent Cloughs. Later crashes were cleared completely especially where potentially hazardous chemicals and / or items were present and of course with the advent of the helicopter it was easier to get the debris out

You're meant to have dogs on a short lead at this time of year on public rights of way and you're not allowed dogs at all on the open access land where there is no PROW in that part of the peak district. There are loads of signs up to let you know.

If you watch any of my videos you'll see that Fendy is highly trained. Even more so than most humans! Plus we didn't see any signs there... I'm aware of sheep and lambing this time of year and if I thought for a second that my dog would cause any stress (anymore than me walking her on a lead) to them then she goes on a lead and I take a different path. Thanks for your concern though.
@georgewaddington3675

@@GrizzlyGaz I can appreciate that, but I don't feel this makes you exempt and land owners, wildlife and livestock would not know that or agree with you. To ground nesting birds and livestock with young it makes no difference they don't know or relate to your dog any differently in regards to whether it is well trained or not. There are areas of the peak district being closed by landowners because public don't respect or understand the land, I would hate to see more of this and lose access to land we currently are able to share and enjoy.
