Sometimes it's not as obvious. I never realized how funky the bass line was in "Walk This Way" (Aerosmith) until I heard it mashed up with "Can't Get Next to You" (Temptations) Video here on KZfaq

Danced to that when it came out. It was 1976. Just graduated high school. Disco was coming and we went dancing every single weekend. What great times. You know these were the innocent days, had not heard of AIDS, no date-rape drugs, just long weekends of drinking, partying and dancing until the clubs shut down. Commodores were out. Great times. If you were drunk the cops took you home. These were days we will never get back.

12:18 am, Toronto, Canada. It is currently -10 degrees Celsius outside but with windchill feels like -20 and it is going to take a deep dive to -30 in a few hours. We are bracing for an extreme cold front for the next few days. Yes, it sucks and there's nothing anyone can do. I can't sleep and I decided to watch entertaining reaction videos and to all sorts of songs from 70's and 80's. I love these guys. They are so funny 😂😂😂

Back in the day most keyboards could only produce one type of sound, so they would have several stacked up to give them versatility. That looks like a Hammond organ, a Fender Rhodes electric piano and a synthesizer stacked up. Today you could have one sampling keyboard that will deliver all of those sounds.
@ballyastrocade5672
@ballyastrocade5672 Жыл бұрын
I think that one on the top is a Minimoog. Even today, a lot of keyboardists will have at least a couple of them stacked together in live performances, just so they don't have to try to switch settings in the middle of a song if two different sounds are required. Rick Wakeman is infamous for being surrounded by a dozen different models -- and playing two of them at the same time, one with each hand!
@todallard8791

@@ballyastrocade5672 Wakeman was genius on the keyboards.
@gotham61
@gotham61 Жыл бұрын
@@ballyastrocade5672 A lot of modern synths can split the keyboard into two sections, each with a different sound, one for the left and and one for the right hand, and the sounds can be preset and changed at the push of a button. Not sure what the top keyboard is, but it isn't a Minimoog. Those have a black vertical panel behind the keyboard with all of the synth controls.
@ruserious9577
@ruserious9577 Жыл бұрын
@@gotham61 Agreed. Definitely not a Minimoog, no controls. (although the top/lead keyboard almost always was a minimoog used by probably 99% of artists, during that era..)

From my home state of Ohio, Donny Iris of the blue eyed soul band the Jaggerz, later; rock band the cruisers was in this group, but Ron Parisi of Steubenville wrote the song. Legend has it that during one live gig, some audience members kept teasing the band, and cajoling them to “play some funky music, white boys.” Parissi put pen to paper, and wrote “Play That Funky Music.” He based the lyrics on the band’s experiences being a hard-working rock and roll band in the age of disco.
