Ultimate power ballad of the 80’s was Motley Crue - “Home Sweet Home”. MTV changed their countdown rules because it stayed on it so long. I sing it to my 6 year old daughter at bedtime every night.

Since that isn't an official music video, I don't think there is one, you would have been better off just listening to the song with a still image, instead of scenes from some movie that a fan put together. Anything off their first two albums is great. The third album sucks, but it gave them their power ballad, after that they were a pop/commercial band with some catchy riffs and fun tunes, but for me, I prefer the earlier Crue.

"You're all I need" by Mötley Crüe is (in)arguably the most disturbing power ballad ever. It's written from the perspective of a guy in prison after having stabbed his girlfriend to death. Presumably written as an act of rebellion after their previous power ballad, "Home sweet home", had become such a huge mainstream hit and one of the greatest MTV phenomena ever. The jarring contrast between the chilling lyrics and the melancholy tones is absolutely stunning. I love it. One of THE highlights from the 1987 "Girls girls girls" album. And did MTV ban it? Of course they did!

Motley Crue is the heaviest of the Hair Bands. Although they have a number of songs that fit the hair band mold, a lot of their songs such as this one are more metal. I saw the Crue and the Scorpions on the same bill back in the 90's. Great concert. Great review here today, I'm always happy to see you cover Motley Crue. You actually did listen to a Motley Crue ballad awhile back called "Home Sweet Home." If you are interested in hearing others try "Time for Change," or "Without You." If you'd like another heavy one try "Louder Than Hell." For a song that's a cross between a ballad and just a fun rock song try "Don't Go Away Mad." It could have been a ballad but the lyrics are too funny and tongue in cheek.

On this day in 1985, Motley Crue released the single for HOME SWEET HOME. Believe it or not, when the band originally presented the song to their record label, they were told that they couldn't include it on Theatre of Pain. According to Nikki Sixx, the execs at Elektra said "This is horrible, and you have to take that song off the record. You guys aren't a ballad band." After Nikki threatened to take their business elsewhere, Elektra finally agreed to leave the song on the record, but refused to finance it as a single or a music video. Confident that it would be a hit, the band funded it and shot the video themselves. Shortly thereafter, it became one of the most successful music videos in history. In fact, it was so successful on MTV's daily request show (sitting at #1 for more than 3 months) that they had to invoke the unwritten "Crue Rule," in which videos would only be eligible on the request line for 30 days. Happy 35th anniversary to this timeless classic!
