I love this channel holy shit. I'm amazed at how many things you walk by and never take the time to think about. I've seen this thing EVERYWHERE and always thought it was annoying until now. I have great respect for it.

Although I do recommend a filter, I didn't have any trouble with little hairs getting into my drink. The hairs pretty much stay fastened onto the fruits.

In my experience it only has a bitter taste when you boil the stems. But since I soaked everything in cold water, it didn't taste bitter at all.

I remember fighting sumac plants that got out of control in my yard... took me 4 years to get them out, yet sometimes they still grow some stems that need to be removed. Sumac is a very quick growing plant.

I didn't know sumac was common in North America, which is really strange to me because as a Persian we grind it up and use it as a spice.

there's also evergreen sumac in the south which is also tangy and lemon flavored but is more closely related to mango.

I always thought the red sumac was the poisinous one, ive never seen the white sumac, im going to try this, you dont have to crush the berries? Just soak them? I’ll do 8 hours like you did

Yes. If it’s a sumac with fuzzy red berries, they are edible raw. They taste like pink lemonade

I found something that looks like sumac in my neighborhood. The berries are not white like poison sumac, but its drooping down, but other than that sounds like sumac, should I eat it? Yea, i know i shouldnt ask on the comments, but im curious on your opinions
@rebwarbehruz74426 жыл бұрын
WhileyouwerereadingmynameIstoleyoursandwich smell it and if it seems to be sour give it a taste and if it is sour and tart then it's sumac
@ineffablesplendor41726 жыл бұрын
WhileyouwerereadingmynameIstoleyoursandwich Poison Sumac is utterly different looking. It has actual round white berries, the Red fuzzy clusters of a Sumac tree could never possibly be confused. The only similarly is in the same. I've encountered both of these plants multitudes of times and give you my answer in confidence.

Youre not correct to say poison sumac and staghorn sumac are not related. They are a different genus, but are of the same family. The family they both belong to is that of the cashew, scientific name anacardiaceae. While not toxic like poison sumac some people are still alergic to regular sumac because they share the same compoud that people allergic to cashews react to. So if you are allergic to cashews, pistachios, peruvian pepper or anything in that family you should excersise caution when trying sumacaid for the first time.
