I absolutely love Obenauf's! It is made in a small town not far from my home town. The Obenauf's are extremely humble and amazing people. Glad to see their product getting some recognition!

I watched it and thought it went by fast. This the type of stuff I like. I have KZfaq red for exactly these types of videos. I don’t watch your videos most of the time. I playlists them, go to black screen then listen as I’m going down the road. I’m in the truck non stop for 2 weeks at a time so that’s a lot of listening time. I do this all day everyday for the channel that go into detail for topics I like. When I’m on my 10 hour break, I watch the ones that have something I want to see that’s when I do my likes. I don’t want to be tempted to look at the screen while I’m sitting or trying to skip commercials while driving.

I definitely agree with your comment about our throw away society. I have several pairs of quality hiking boots, and I plan to have those guys last me for many years, so I treat them about once a month whether I've used them or not. Thanks for the video, and the instruction.

I have a pair of Adam's Boots and I have used both Obenauf's LP and the Adam's Boot Grease. What I've found is that the Adam's makes the leather softer and more supple, but offers a little less on the protection side. I work in construction, and my boots are routinely saturated with water and covered with mud all day, to say nothing of sharp rebar edges and cement powder and the like. I find myself reconditioning my boots every other week or so, and I don't wear them every day. My routine is to Obenauf's every time, but every 3rd or 4th time, I smear a little Adam's inside and out before applying the LP.

This is a great topic . Ive never paid attention to my boots other than waxing the tip or changing the inner soles also never seen boots that are screwed in the bottom sole . It did remind me as well to be careful of using flammable cleaning products on the boots . Thank you

got a pair of White's Smokejumpers in 87 while doing timber stand exams anf firefighting in the Swan valley. $180. In '88 added a pair of White's Cowboy-packers while on a trailcrew in the Bitterroot. $240. Worth every penny. Saved me some sprained ankles and mayby worse while coming down under reserve parachutes. Wore them every day for 20 years. Excellent.

Used british army combat boots foe years, from the old dmf ammo boots to my most recent pair of 4 years, there is an old saying that old army boots do not break in, its your feet that break in, l.o.l. In the woods in all seasons, wood management, terrible bramble clearing and walking the fields in all weathers. Chalk and flint on the english downs is hard going on boots,I always give my boots a brush every day and dubbin regularly. When I was younger, I was in an army mountain rescue unit as the medic, then I wore Italian climbing boots made by scarpa, still got an old pair, 42 yrs old but the combat boots better for rough woodland work. I was salivating over your logging boots, but $500 equates to about £300 and I dont carry a lot with about 10miles a day walking about at the most . I get your point about weight of boots and army combat boots are just that, tanks for feet, at 65 your boots would outlast me and nobody wants to walk in dead mans boots. I am saving up for a nice pair of whites boots or a pair of adams... I have been wearing justin boots for as long as I can remember and it'll be a strange transition but worth it. I have had the same pair of cowboy pull on workboots for about 6 years now and have had new soles put on proper by a cobbler around here and all I have to say is; If you put time and care into your boots, they will last you as long as you need them, a pair of 200 dollar boots can get done what you need, but a pair of custom boots will get done what you need as comfortable as possible.

Hi Cody. The way i do it is clean and steam, then walnut oil on the inside, beeswax+tupertine+walnut on the outside, and a final coat of pure carnauba wax. But now i use synthetic Asolo boots, as they are lighter, equally durable with much less mantinance, and still you can kick down a mountain with them. Best Regards.

I've always used Propert's leather cream & polish, and I've got western boots from Luchese, Dan Post & Tony Lama that I've had for nearly 20 years and are on their 4th and even 5th sets of soles now! That's not to say that other brands aren't as good or even better than Properts, but I started using Properts when I first went to work at an Acme Boot Factory Outlet store just a few days after my 18th birthday, and Properts was the brand we carried and the brand that I learned the most about. After working there and later at a Corral West store in Boise, ID I've got enough Properts leather conditioner and polishing cream to last me a lifetime! My favorite Properts product is there polishing cream. Unlike the popular Kiwi Brand and similar waxy polishes, the Properts polish is a cream that combines leather conditioner, polish and leather die all in one bottle. 2% of the polish is actually leather die in what ever color your using, and instead of just covering over scratches it actually re-dies the leather back to the proper color. One word of caution though, ALWAYS wear rubber gloves when applying Properts polishing cream to your boots, because that 2% die that's so good for making scratches disappear will die your hands just as effectively as it dies your boots!

Yeap, taking care of your foot ware is important. I too had the chance to learn growing up. My dad was a 29 year Army Vet. I spent 10 years int eh Army myself. My son has also gotten the news. I still keep them in top shape. I am still wearing an 8 year old pair of boots I bought.

Love our videos. I use Nikwax, which is a similar consistency to your LP wax, on my Hoggs of Fife boots and it clumps in the seams as in your video. When she's not looking use Mrs Wranglerstar's hair drier (if you have such a thing) and the wax melts just enough to go deep into the seam and not sit on the surface to gather dirt. Keep up the good work.

I've got 2 brushes for my boots. 1 for cleaning out the the junk, and the second to work the heavy LP in the cracks and crevices, then I lightly hit the boots with a heat gun, and it just takes in that Heavy LP, and repeat. it seems to dry into a better polymer when exposed to a little heat and applied in layers.

I have been doing construction for a decade now. Only recently have I started appreciating good boots. And by good boots I mean something not from Wal-Mart. I bought my first pair of Red Wings a few years ago and I've been looking for a new pair of boots for the past few weeks. But one thing that has bothered me was a lack of knowledge when it comes to boot care & maintenance. Like you said in the video, it's kind of a lost art (at least where I'm at). Even at Red Wings shop, they just dunk them in an oil tank. There is no regard for proper cleaning and care as you have showed. So to enlighten myself, I've been looking for a video like this one (harder to find than you might think). So I want to thank you for sharing your knowledge and your time. I appreciate it more than you might think. Great to see people that still take pride in their work!

Could you do an update on the comparison of obenaufs and Adams boot juice.

Tip: An old toothbrush works great forgetting into the nooks and crannies.

I don't wear any super expensive boots. Just a pair of chippewas but your videos have been a big help.

If you use the grease, just use a stiff bristled artists paint brush to apply, then rub it all around with your hands or use a hair drier to warm it slightly to melt it in. Works like a charm.

Wranglerstar, you do know that you can have your whites resized right? When I bought mine (lace to toe Smoke jumpers 10" model) they told me they and be resized to my feet, to a limited degree of course but, its something to think about. I must say, I am glad I found your proper boot videos, ended up with a pair of whites and my feet and knees are rejoicing at the reduced strain. Granted, the 1000mi round trip was iffy, so was the expression on my fathers face when I paid for them...

Cody when I was younger & had a dirt bike. I used some treatment for my boots. It was waxing like your one kind. To get it to soak in better a guy told me to use a hair drier. That liquefies the waxy stuff & makes it sink in. Just my 2 cents...LOL

I love Obenauf's. I may try that oil sometime. I am also curious to see if the Adam's boot cream works well. A big reason I like Obenauf's so much is the way the beeswax waterproofs the leather. I wonder if his will do any waterproofing for your boots.

They have some oil that comes in a tub with a brush that is attached to the lid. Think plumbers glue. It is super handy. I buy the big jug, then refill small tub.

I'am curious to see if that white stuff that you applied to the boots work I'am a little sceptical it doesn't seem to be absorbing into the leather. I have been using the Viberg wax which is the same stuff as the Obenaufs different brand same manufacturer been using it for years.

I have a pair of danner rainforest boots and the sole is stitched to the boot. I don't think they are crummy at all.

I use the oil and wax,just keep a hair dryer or heat gun close bye and when the leathers warm it sucks it right in.

I just subscribed so yea I'm new. I won several pairs of leather shoes and boots, i also try and take care of them ( think i take better care of them then i do my truck) i am a volunteer fire fighter in north west Mo. so my experience with grass fires are very different, for the most part I just wear my leather structure fire boot. and they weigh a ton.

In my family we learned to shine our shoes for church too. It also prepared me for that facet of Navy life. This may be a little ahead of things, but what do you do with wet boots? I mean, sometimes soakin' boots! What do you think of the Peet boot dryer?

next time when you do this again since you did half and half of obenofs and adams boot juice switch it and do it opposite of what had it this time so that way the will wear just about the same

Hi awesome video! I just got hired on with a wildland fire crew in British Columbia, I recently bought Viberg fire boots. Camp begins in about 10 days and my boots are a stiff as there new. A friend of mine recommended soaking my boots over night and wearing them the next day to help mould to my feet. I’ve seen mixed review online and was just curious of your opinion. I spent over 600 $ and wouldn’t want to jeopardize the leather.

Cody, what are your thoughts on armorall-ing the soles? I recently did that to mine, and it turned them black again, but the tiny bit that go on the bottom got squeaky. I know that rubber likes armorall though, so I dunno.
