Hedgehogs are wonderful creatures, but their spines can cause a few problems at times!
This little guy needed a helping hand after getting stuck between a wall and shed. With his spines preventing escape, he was unable to move and Simon set off to help!

Because we had a little more rain here in Germany, my garden has become a veritable jungle. A couple of weeks ago, I was working on a few pots next to the overgrown part and suddenly I heard weird noises, as if a cat was about to vomit. I wasn't sure what was making the noises, but hedgehog was on the list, although it sounded differently than usual. So I stepped closer and peered through the brambles and high grass that had grown over a heap of stones and sure enough - I was looked at by a little hedgehog face. My presence at the pots had probably woken him up and he voiced his dissatisfaction by making these weird noises.

@steffis9806
@steffis9806 3 жыл бұрын
It is a tick, but it's really hard to get them out of a hedgehogs face. The procedure also really stresses them outnot good for a wild animal. As long as they don't have more than two or three ticks at once, an adult will be just fine, don't worry. Hedgehogs always have LOTS of parasites between their spikes. They have a certain tolerance as long as they are otherwise healthy :) (Source: I have been working with hedgehogs for 5+ years)

I had a lovely early morning experience with a trapped hedgehog, collecting my cycle from the shed, I heard a rustling and found a hedge trapped trying to get through a timber fence, must have been there all night judging by the mess. I got some cat food, water and a screwdriver, freed the poor creature picked her up to see if she needed a vet and out from a bush came her mate (probably smelling the food). I made the hole bigger. JOB DONE except I kept feeding a little. Some weeks later I was by the raised beds and out came a hedgehog, walked around the bed between my foot and the bed (a small gap) followed be a very tiny hedgehog baby who followed her bur climbed onto my foot for a rest VERY CUTE).

I have 3 hedgehog visitors at night, they pop in for food. One has developed a method of calling for room service when the saucer is empty. It stands on the lip of the saucer so the other side lifts, then takes its foot off - resulting in a crash sound but the saucer remains whole. Last night at 4 am, crash, crash, crash, crash, wait 5 minutes, then crash, crash, crash, crash. Bleary eyed, I went down to find the saucer empty of food and the hedgehog waiting patiently next to it... Of course I added more food but I think I may have set a precedent. Question - am I being trained here? Lol. Well done for your great work!
