How to make a Sprinkler Valve Cover

I need to make something to cover up those ugle sprinkler valves. I did not purchase any materials for this project. I used scrap wood that I had laying around.

Love it! Great idea to only do a top, front and sides. I'm going to use old fence boards which are already sealed and has paint that is aged. Thank you!

What size wood is he using for the frame?

Thanks for the video. You mentioned you used plywood slats and allowed 1/4” gaps between slats for water to get through. Wonder why you would want water to get through

Rain water, etc. Didn’t want water pooling on the top.

I see. I would imagine you’d want to keep the valves and wiring as dry as possible. I’d probably use rectangular plywood slightly slanted at the top to let water slide off to the front. Otherwise great design and workmanship

It’s a great idea, but I would use composite materials or pvc that doesn’t attract termites .

Mmmm - termite food! How is this project looking two years later? Nice idea, except I'd make a couple of critical changes. First, use urethane glue or resorcinol glue ("Weldwood"). These glue types are truly waterproof, while yellow carpenter's glue is only water resistant and will weaken outdoors when it gets wet or is exposed to high humidity. Second, I'd saturate the bottom and inside of the box with "copper green" wood preservative to prevent dry-rot and termite damage. The copper green needs to dry for a few weeks, then the wood can be painted.

***** We move from that house, so I cant give you an update. My guess is, its doing fine. It was under a over hang and the roof had rain gutters. Thanks for the info.
