My review of the impressive Fenix TK20R v2.0 tactical flashlight, with 3000 lumens, 475 metres of throw, a dual tail-switch & a concealed USB-C charging port.
Includes side-by-side comparisons with the PD36R, PD35 v3, TK11 TAC, PD40R v2, & TK16 v2.

I purchased this flashlight after watching your review and im glad I did. Definitely the best flashlight i have ever purchased. Its top notch quality, very bright for its size, perfect size for a tactical light but not too large or small. I may have to get a second one for my vehicle. Don't be alarmed by the price, totally worth it in my opinion.

Thank you for your review. Here in Central Florida US, we have guns and the license to carry with the hopes of never using one. I only learned at the end of the video why something like this was so valuable to your laws. More over, the video was extremely helpful and I've ordered the TK20R, not because I need it, but I would like to own it. The video was quite long but very thorough. Thank you for the time spent on all of the lights covered. Best regards!

Thanks for the lovely comment Carlos. Yes, here in Australia, we are encouraged to be defenseless, co-operate with an attacker, and call the police after the fact so that the perpetrator might get a slap on the wrist and be released to offend again. And I'm quite sure that if I did use a flashlight to defend myself, and injured an attacker in the process, my narration in this video would probably be used against me.

Torn between the 16 and the 20. Ps here the law is the same, probably get into trouble shining it in someone's eyes, especially if they felt offended by the light.

Good conent as always. But as with any product we need to know what our intended use will be e.g. for "search and rescue"--we'd want throw distance/nice hot spot. For "defensive/LE/personal defence" --a 'flood beam" like the TK16 for more "up close and personal distanes". I just ordered a TK16 yesterday. Good point about the heat dissiapation. Matters BIG time. As we won't always remember to wear gloves. Even if cold. If warm or hot weather....no gloves.

The improved charging port protection is a real selling point for me. Taping down a rubber cover (in my case, also a PD36R) is far from optimal and it will be necessary once the charging port has been used more than a few times.

Great review! Was looking to buy my first Fenix light and stumbled upon your channel. Was initially thinking about getting the TK20R v2 (concealed charging port) or PD36R Pro (leaning more to PD36R Pro as more slim profile) but both seems to be having heat issues and the rubber cover on the PD36R Pro doesn't last long. Would you recommend TK16R v2 over them? As i feel TK16R v2 a good balance of throw and flood between them. If I do not use the charging port on the PD36R Pro, would the rubber cover last longer? Have a bunch of small EDC dailylike Reylight Pineapple, Rovyvon A4 pro, Wurkos TS10, so looking to purchase my first high lumen light. Thanks

I don't think it's how often you use a rubber flap that makes it deteriorate, I think it's more a combination of age and being squished around in your pocket all day, every day for years. I'm yet to get my hands on a PD36R Pro to comment on how hot it gets, but am happy to recommend the TK16 v2 over the TK20R v2, unless you absolutely desperately need that extra bit of throw. Otherwise the TK16 v2 is a much better all rounder, doesn't get anywhere near as hot so quickly, is cheaper, and more pocket-friendly.

The TK 16v2.0 is by far the better light for self-defense, tactical purposes. True it doesn’t have the throw of the tk 20. However, it still throws a beam 380 m which is more than enough. The upside is that because the beam is not as focused it has more of a flood capacity, which makes it more likely that you will hit an attack right in the eyes with the beam and blinding him, at that distance, there’s really no difference between the blinding affect of the TK 16 in a TK 20. TK 16 is also very quick into action and the fact that it is 6 inches long makes it a permissible metal item on all flights. Whereas the TK 20 is just over 7 inches and will flag when you put it through the x-ray machine. I carried my original TK 16 on airplanes all the time. The TK 16 version 2.0 is even better than the original because it has 3100 lm in turbo mode and stroke mode compared to 1000 lm with the original TK 16. Get the TK 16, version 2.0. I

@WildStuff
@WildStuff 2 жыл бұрын
The port cover feels very secure, and requires firm pressure to open or close, and it does so very smoothly. It will not move by accident. Granted the light is relatively new now, so you'd have to ask me again in a year or two to see how it goes over time. At 3:15 I show the light sitting snugly inside my trouser pocket, alongside my wallet. You should be fine as long as your pocket is deep enough.

The drop from Turbo.. is that a timed drop or heat protection cut in.
@WildStuff

I'd say it's heat triggered. I've seen videos from other users where it steps down even quicker (eg. around 45 secs). And I don't get another 50 seconds out of it by turning it off and back on. So ambient temperature and how long it's been able to cool since last usage would affect it.

It depends. You need to prioritise what features are important to you. If brightness and throw are most important, then the TK20R v2 (or TK22 TAC or LR35R etc) would be the way to go. But if you value a compact size for carrying every day in your pocket, then the PD36R Pro (or the PD35 v3, PD25R, E35, etc) would be the way to go.

@@dkin Fenix have also been known to make minor revisions to design and features of lights as they go, without releasing it as a whole new light. eg. early batches of the E35 v3 had mode memory, but they removed it mid-production so newer batches don't have mode memory. Hypothetically, they could have tweaked something in the TK20R v2 to improve the heat management in the 2 years since I made this review. But it's more likely just my super-scientific test and its not-so-scientific results.

I discuss this in the conclusion @ 17:31 - the TK16 v2 is my preference of the two. But I also have other brighter lights that fill my need for greater throwing distances. For me, the heat was the biggest differentiator, with the TK20R v2 becoming too hot/painful to hold in less than a minute on turbo.

@@tonydillinger2553 they don't need anything fancy, any power bank should do. I personally have a few Anker power banks, which one I take depends on the circumstances. 10,000mah or 20,000mah.
