Does the 75-300mm work with a teleconverter? Would love to see the results if it does. Feel free to post the video link here when you try it out. I tried a Kenko 1.4x TC on my Sigma 150-600mm and it was awful - but if you've got a quality teleconverter it might be worth a try.

This lens is a beast for astrophotography if you get a star tracker and also a teleconverter. (bulb mode long shutter press with the remote shutter button, more than 30 seconds and iso 100), 1200mm on a full frame camera, it works super well with a 2x teleconverter even for wild life photography however for astrophotography, with a star tracker you can even use a 2x teleconverter with a cropped sensor camera like your's and reach a 1920mm equivalent zoom with the crop factor which gets the moon super up close and sharp at F/16-22 range, but worst case if the craters are soft, you can dial back the zoom ring down to like 500 (1600)mm or 450(1440)mm equivalent focal length and still get much closer and sharper photos.

I have the Tamron version. With a 1.4x. What I find impossible is focusing: I just went through my 2nd attempt at Jupiter and failed. I tried using Exposure Bracketing, where the moons show in the brighter shots, and trying to get a good shot of the planet at a faster exposure. But really the focus-ring is just too non-sensitive. I ordered an attachment that will fit on the focus ring from China that will arrive in a few weeks, that may help with these "manual focus" shooting occasions, I hope that helps.

@WildStuff
@WildStuff 5 ай бұрын
I have both lights, they perform the same. It all comes down to your preference in button layout, and charging style. For carrying a light in my pocket for general everyday purposes, I prefer the PD35 v3. If I was a security guard patrolling dark corridors and storage yards, then I'd likely prefer the PD35R for the ease of switching between modes in the overhand position without needing to fumble for the 2nd button. I'm also not a fan of rubber flaps over charging ports - they deteriorate and warp over time until you eventually find yourself ripping it off completely, so +1 for the PD35 v3 there, however the PD35 v3 only comes with a 2600mah battery where the PD35R comes with 3400mah. I put a 3500mah battery in my PD35 v3 and it's fantastic, but an extra battery is another hit to the budget if you don't already have a spare lying around. The PD35R charges by USB C, whereas so far, Fenix only make their USB-chargeable 18650 batteries with micro-USB ports. The PD35 v3 is also smaller than the PD35R, albeit by only a couple of millimetres here and there.

A cheap teleconverter would only make the image quality worse, and a quality one would cost almost as much as the lens, so it's just not worth it. In Australia the RF 2x extender is $1000 - for a similar price you could buy an 8" or 10" dobsonian telescope and get much better results.

Some wider, flood beam style lights in my collection I would suggest looking at are the original PD36R and the E35 v3. Also bear in mind that even if you had one of the other lights with a further throwing distance, all you need to do is use a lower setting to avoid upsetting your subject too much.

Still baffles me. I've tried numerous settings and times, all i get is a white or gray dot. Never been able to match this, with the same lens. Great shot, but still completely baffling that the only difference is about 6 megapixels. Ive heard megapixels dont matter as much as people say, but that is literally the only difference in the setup and all i can point to after months of attempting this shot. Hell the first few times i tried Jupiter was supposedly really close to Earth, but never got anything as clear as you do. Got to give you props
@WildStuff
@WildStuff 6 ай бұрын
Are you shooting with a crop sensor or a full frame body? Having 6 megapixels less than my M6 II makes me suspect perhaps you're using a 6D II or an RP (please excuse my Canon bias). Smaller sensors with higher pixel densities will have a huge advantage over full frame sensors for these sorts of shots.
@evanmacgiollarua1271
@evanmacgiollarua1271 6 ай бұрын
@WildStuff it is a crop sensor. It's a canon M50 with an adaptor for the ef mount. I've tried both the regular adaptor and the speed booster. I just checked, turns out it is an 8mp difference. That was my mistake in my initial post
@WildStuff
@WildStuff 6 ай бұрын
@@evanmacgiollarua1271 The M50 is quite a capable camera and should be able to produce something similar to the shots I got. Stick to the regular adaptor though - the speedbooster will be counter-productive for planetary shots. The M50 however has no socket for a shutter release cable - are you triggering the shots via a phone app? Pressing the regular shutter button to trigger the shot, no matter how gently you do it, will introduce enough shake to ruin the photo.
@evanmacgiollarua1271
@evanmacgiollarua1271 6 ай бұрын
@WildStuff Alright, I wasn't noticing a huge difference between the speedbooster vs. the adaptor, but fair enough, I'll stick to the regular adaptor. I have tried Canon's remote shutter (connected via Bluetooth). But, I have mainly used the app due to the remote shutter having connectivity issues. I also hoped the app would give me a better resolution than the lcd screen on the camera, but sadly, I was wrong. One thing I noticed that I thought was odd was that when I tried to turn the focus ring (lower than infinity), it made the dot that is Jupiter larger. It also had the effect of making it very gray and grainy. When I went back to infinity, it turned back to the white dot with nothing to distinguish it from any other star in the sky.

Is a battery without usb port suitable? It is a little bit shorter
@WildStuff
@WildStuff 6 ай бұрын
I haven't encountered a battery being a little bit shorter than another on account of not having a USB port. I've only used the Fenix brand batteries, and the batteries with a USB port are the same size as the ones without, (as long as they're both the same class of battery) and I can swap them between lights no problem at all. I'd be cautious about using a battery with different physical dimensions - it sounds odd to me.
