The Wild West Extravaganza

10 ай бұрын

In the summer of 1895 John Selman Sr gunned down John Wesley Hardin. Considered one of the deadliest shootists of the Old west, Hardin killed his first man at the tender age of fifteen. In the decade that followed dozens of others would fall to the young man’s guns, including - if the legend is true - a victim whose only crime was snoring too loud. Yet despite all this, Hardin’s killer with a badge - John Selman - was far worse. Also discussed is the Lincoln County War, Tillie Howard, Jesse Evans, George Scarborough, Bass Outlaw, and Hulk Hogan. #wildwest #history #oldwest

No sir, no apologies necessary. In an absolutely perfect world Hulk Hogan and the entire 80's era WWF superstars would be in the Dolan/Murphy faction having to face off against a newly-reinforced Mr. Tunstall's Regulators backed up by the Four Horseman shading them off with gunshots and shouts of "woooohhhhhhh!"

Just enjoying a cup of coffee while listening to this great tale of the old west. I lived in El Paso back in the early 1970's while stationed at Fort Bliss. When our unit moved from Fort Lewis Washington to Fort Bliss Texas to learn desert warfare (the Middle East was the point of war plans back then), we received a training session from the CID division on base. The plain cloths man said that once a week he made the rounds of jails in Juarez and called out "any GI's Present let me know!" his advice, if you were in jail to speak up because he would get you out and back on base. The Mexican's didn't have the same system as ours, you had to pay for food in jail, and if you went before their judge, the police would tell the judge how much money you had on you, that would be the fine if they let you go at all. Back then you could have a great time south of the border for not a lot of money, and shopping down there was great, you could even buy sugar which was very short in the US. Ah for the good old days before the Cartels took over Mexico.

John Wesley Hardin underestimated how much of a murderer John Selman really was. He told somebody's who thought that John selman was mainly a drunk and therefore harmless. He told them that John selman was about as harmless as a stepped-on rattlesnake. He said you don't plant twenty men underground and live to be as old as old John by being harmless. But I didn't think he thought Salman would come and shoot him in the back of the head. Let's take his 25 years for example, did he do some stuff to be hung for absolutely but what he was actually tried for and given twenty-five years was for shooting a man that had already shot him in the back.

Her name is Genevieve but she prefers Evie these days and I have learned the value of supporting her preferences as often as they change at the tender age of fourteen :) I used to live in Texas and when she was younger, I would entertain her with stories of the desert, the sacred Comanche lands, and the adventure, excitement, and drama of the West. She rides horses with her mother and seldomly with me, so I know there’s some twang, spit, and yee-haw 🤠 inside her which I encourage all I can as every father should. Virtually all lawman back in the day were also outlaws sometime at the same time. Wild Bill Hickok had some dark areas in his past including the McCandless affair where he shot down three unarmed men. Tried to chase his twelve-year-old son down but the twelve-year-old made it to safety. Wyatt Earp was a fugitive-from-justice due to horse thievery. And he was ran out of Arizona for the murder charge due to the train passing by as they saw him and all of his cutthroats shoot-down Frank stillwell. John selman himself, the sheriff and at the same time the outlaw Henry Plummer really you could write a book because nearly every lawman at some time or another was an outlaw.

John Larn and John selman while serving as low men became the biggest rustlers in the territory mainly by killing off their competition. They and their gang had hanged many horse thieves when they were worse than any of them dancing on the rope. I mean they shot John Larn in his cell because they couldn't get the bolt loose to take the chain off or he was going to dance on the end of the rope. When the vigilantes couldn't get it loose they shot him in his cell. He died at the age of 29 learning a very hard lesson you don't become a lawman and be a worst killer than the killers you were locking up or more likely killing.
