With the post driver out of commission we are left with an auger attachment to finish the fence project. It's much more labor intensive and leaves us exhausted. To make matters worse, we start questioning how our porch step lighting project is turning out.

We are a couple who are building our own home from the ground up in the mountains of West Virginia. After living near the city our entire lives we finally decided to sell it all, pack up our 3 kids and live in an RV on our 73 acres while building our own debt free, off-grid house and learning to live a more self-reliant life.
Our house build is documented entirely on our main channel "Wild Wonderful Off-Grid" and our family life vlogs can be found on our secondary channel "Wild Wonderful After Show"

I guess I need to get that new Hoodie! Great family, living the old school. I had a client I made an engagement ring for. Seven years and two other rings later, I asked for his new address to add to my database on the point of sale. He bought the house my Dad built in 1949. Such a small world, really You know when you meet people how very special they can be in your life. I feel this in your connection to your personal life choices, too. It was a given that we meet one day and it's all fun, even when its all just work.

You could always paint the light cases to match the steps, which will help it look not so busy during the day.

I agree with their first assessment that they should only have lights in the middle, but on all steps. Current setup is just a mess and it looks the stairs have grown dimples.

I know you were joking when you said you finally got somthing right the firs time, but I must say the first thing you folks got right was long ago when you two wonderfull people chose each other. It is shows like yours in todays times that reinforce mine and possibly millions of people around the world that true love does still exist and is posssible for everyone with a little efort. Love

Leon acts just like a dog. It's funny how he wants to be right with you all the time. I'm glad the baby chick survived. I love how kind you are to all your animals. No wonder they love you so much. Heres a tip for Leon and the rest of theherd...take a 4×4, leave it about 4 feet above ground, then mount a stiff street broom on all 4 sides. Leon will love rubbing on it. And when the broom heads wear out, simply replace them.

Fence post hint: After you trim those posts, paint the tops with the black roofing paint with fibers. This will seal the tops from rain and prevent premature rot.

3:35 Erin, I was taught this back in my 7th grade math class, a half a hole is still a hole. So, you can't be halfway done, with the hole drilling, it's still a hole.

We used the same size fence posts, so either your posts were dried out more or Erin is incredibly strong because she was tossing them in the holes like they were toothpicks!!

I like the light's on the steps, they look great. More light, for added safety at night. It's amazing, how all your hard work, has turned out. The house is beautiful. Put a small solar panel on top of the inverted pole, it will look like intentional. No worries only a couple hundred thousand people will ever know😹. Leon sure is one special Ram, one of a kind for sure. Lights look great👍👍

With the shale, I am surprised you did not go with the auger first….just saying. Leon is a great supervisor ! (Project as a whole and/or hole, can’t go wrong either way.)

But they should have been given a smaller diameter auger bit. The hole they drilled did not need to be drilled that large for that size of post.

Gotta roll with the punches! Love your attitudes about life. I’m a huge fan of hung Edison lights on a wire from porch to surrounding tress to illuminate vast areas minimally. Thanks for sharing your journey!

Strip LED’s under the lower rail of the hand rails/fence would look good up the stairs and around the porch/deck
