It's something special about old guys playing music that's not overly complex, but still playing it in a way that only really seasoned musicians can play it.

I saw Wilko and Norman live in mid 90s, drummer was Salvatore Ramundo, small club in Newport South Wales, one of the best gigs I've seen. Wilko gives it everything, Norman is mesmerising. Some of the best and still most underrated of all British acts xxx

This video is a godsend in that you can finally hear all the little nuances and accents Norman puts in around the walking lines. He is a master at staying in the groove and yet experienced enough to play around it without taking the limelight off Wilko. Norman and Charlie Charles were one of the greatest rhythm sections God ever created.

Had the pleasure to meet up and have a post concert party with Ian Dury and the Blockheads when they came to Wellington New Zealand in the early eighties. The gig was at the town hall and the place nearly burst apart such was the quality of the gig, it just ROCKED and Normie was there among that fantastic band The Blockheads. I asked Ian how he rated the gig/audience and he replied "That was the best crowd we have had since" (I forget the gig he mentioned, but it was in the UK) and a couple of years later The Wilco Johnson Band toured downunder although i didnt get to see them....something to do with Her Majesty requiring my company for six months at one of her holiday camps for recalcitrant drivers under the influence, youth and inexperience will do that to a guy.

I can't stop playing this concert. Really, Wilko was something else (RIP). But I never knew who Watt-Roy was until I Googled him. Does anyone know if he is touring with any band right now? Gotta catch that legend. The energy he shows on bass is amazing.

Norman's great but the sound on Wilko's mic and his guitar is too low. That's why everybody is commenting on how good Norman is.

John V You’re right. Looks as if the video is being done by someone who brought their own video camera and is off to the side of the stage focusing on Norman. The mic on the camera is picking up the bass amp. It’s a shame because if the sound was more balanced it would be even more incredible than it is.
