He was renowned at the time for playing Rythym and lead on the same guitar.

WILKO JOHNSON, IS, WAS, ONE OF THE BEST EVER GUITAR PLAYERS EVER. HE JUST NEVER GOT THE RECOGNITION,THAT OTHERS DID. I CAN NAME A FEW GUITARISTS WHO HAVE A REAL BIG NAME, MADE MILLIONS AND ARE NOWHERE AS GOOD AS OLD BALDY WILKO JOHNSON.

Saw Wilko last night when he opened for Status Quo in Glasgow disappointing that he only got a small amount of time on stage because of technical stuff but what i heard from him blew me away..

Got my tickets for the Dublin gig and I cannot wait. Bless you Wilko, you are a legend.

A friend of mine drove a forklift truck for a single employer for 40+ years. Wilko played guitar within a similar timescale. ...I know who gets my vote.

The word "gin" is in a lot of songs because it rhymes with a lot of other words.

Bit on the rough side I agree but don't forget that Wilko was still getting over a really major operation involving "removal of his pancreas, spleen, part of his stomach, small and large intestines and the removal and reconstruction of blood vessels relating to the liver" - I'm guessing he and those sharing space with him were celebrating still being around and making music - not worrying overmuch about the finer points
@tombstoneharrystudios5847 жыл бұрын
doasyouwouldbedunto he's having fun even though he's not match fit. I love Dr Feelgood and Wilko but his voice and harsh guitar sound are an acquired taste. Mixed well they are unique, but the sound is off here and it is very 'ice pick in the ear drum' at times. I've seen other live footage thought and he sounds great! Much more confident as a singer so that helps

Somebody tell the drummer that "time" isn't just an abstract construct, it's a necessity.....

Get down on a bulldog my mate would say when listening to dr Feelgood when we woz young lads.

A couple of comments here slating the drummer... Nothing wrong with Dylan's time keeping here. Get the tempo at the beginning and drop in at any point later in the tune, he's right where he should be. I reckon he puts a slight push on the chorus but takes it back for the verses. He does play some slightly more adventurous drum fills than he does on the Johnson-Daltrey record, maybe that's throwing some ears off. Perhaps a bit much for R&B but, fuck it, it was New Years Eve!
@D1fferentDrummer8 ай бұрын
Not just the fills: he's trying way too hard all the way through: Wilco's driving the groove, he should just be tying it down

is there mail where i can get in touch of wilko johnson,guitarist of dr feelgood?
@ChainNonSmoker9 жыл бұрын
Isn't the best gig of theirs :( Probably not enough rehearsing this time or bad monitoring and all that. Saw them at Helsinki 2014 and it was all honey and diamonds there.

just wonder if wilko could kept his demons and go with dr feelgood... there was one of greatest ever..,rmrbr wilkos interwiev in finland...

Much as I love him, I'd hate to be the drummer with Norm as a bassist - looks like it would be a nightmare.
@D1fferentDrummer8 ай бұрын
Norm is rock solid and trying to get the drummer back in line, look at his foot going. Personally would have loved to play with him/them.

The drummer is just working way to hard. He should have watched The Big Figure play it.

Sounds awful. What went wrong?
@VintageSG8 жыл бұрын
+MENSFORTHHILL99 Wilko was still not well in ways we'll never fully appreciate personally. The BBC seem to have difficulty getting a good sound from Wilko. See their previous efforts for further evidence. I've never, ever seen Wilko hit his stride in the 'one song, next band' format. Give them 2 or 3 songs back to back and they are among the best you'll see. Stop/start one song doesn't suit the band, well, that's how I see it.
@tombstoneharrystudios5847 жыл бұрын
MENSFORTHHILL99 I think it's a combination of many things-the rush to get one band on then another, under rehearsed songs and Wilko not being 100% fit after his illness. TBH Wilko was never the greatest singer; I love his songs and his lyrics but he'd admit his voice isn't as good as Lee Brilleaux or Roger Daltry
@philjamesakaowlman62303 ай бұрын
That's an interesting comment, I've never really liked the one song then onto the next band format of later.., I've always thought that it would be better if some of the acts could do 2 or 3 songs back to back similar to the old grey whistle test or jools 80s show the tube.

God sack that drummer!!! Can't keep time. Bring back 'the big figure'
@ChainNonSmoker9 жыл бұрын
James Curry he used to be pretty good, probably drunk or high here and goes all too jazzy. Cant compare Big Figure tho.
@johnknow40979 жыл бұрын
James Curry As a drummer I can't detect anything wrong with his timing, seemed perfectly okay to me. Sounds to me like you just don't like the fact that he's filling in for someone else.
@ChainNonSmoker9 жыл бұрын
Nah 'm not sure if I should agree with one of you but to me it seems this wasnt overall their best gig so none should be sacked as cos of that. :D
@alhudson8 жыл бұрын
+James Curry: Dylan is the only one keeping this together. I suspect Wilko and Norm may have been hitting the juice a little too enthusiastically, but it was NYE FFS ;)
@davidgriffiths72158 жыл бұрын
+James Curry Don't forget that Dylan Howe's wife wrote Wilko's biography. I bet they know a few secrets and I don't think anybody will be getting sacked anytime soon! I'm not a drummer but I don't see any problem with his playing. Sure the whole thing is rough and ready but it was New Year, the drink was flowing and I suspect there's been a bit of over-indulgence. So what?
