I think the reason the car tips up on two wheels and goes haywire is because of the gyroscopic precession. When you have a rotating object and you rotate it in a direction that is out of plane, you get torques in different directions. Sort of like a top balancing itself.

He'd need to have another fan on top spinning in the opposite direction to cancel out the gyro effect.

It either needs a counter-rotating fan on top *or* to have the single fan split into 2 counter-rotating fans. Beam might choke on having the 2 stacked together, but it chokes on this whole idea anyway so who knows ;).

the sbr4 fan car would have been way faster than it was, but the rpm limit was set at like 8.5k and that caused valvetrain damage thus reducing a lot of power towards the end of the lap the sbr4 control car had it's rpm limit at the stock 7k, so no damage to it the stage 2/3 block would allow you to run higher rpms and make quite a bit more power (but that would need to be done on both cars to have proper testing i guess) ps: you'd need to change A LOT the suspension setup on the fan car, because at low speed there was a ton of positive camber at the front

it really depends, it does a lot more, so you have to take a lot more into consideration, but at least you don't have to animate things like suspension in a 3D editor, or make LOD models too

A lot of people don't realise but the McLaren F1 was also a fan car. It had two 300 mm (12 inch) fans, one in each diffuser, to remove the boundary layer of air and increase downforce. Bit of a theme here with Gordon Murray...

One thing you missed at the start, the McMurtry car is fan powered, it set an insane speed record at Goodwood here in england, however its a one off homologation car, so ill forgive you. good content btw

I like the fact that when Fillman was racing the fan car... He was overrevving his engine (losing power) yet he never noticed, therefore he was getting a worse time than what he could of got. 🤣

@@datedpopcorn433 they are. mass is the same whatever planet you are on. weight is a function of gravity or the force acting upon a mass. on earth, gravity is roughly 10n/kg. a mass of 1kg has a weight on earth of 10N. is a force were to act upon the mass, e.g. downforce, the weight increases.

@@mor1ic Yep, and this is why its so much harder to go fast in low gravity, because there's less peak traction to fight the inertia even though your suspension needs to be so soft that under Earth gravity it would bottom-out. Also, the theoretical maximum safe speed on the moon is about 12 mph, calculated based on a safe Earth speed over rocky sand of 30 mph, which is why the LRV was designed to go 6 mph and reached 11.2 mph during the Apollo 17 mission. Safe speed I presume means ability to stop in a probably reasonable distance, while top speed under lunar gravity of a wheeled vehicle is about 0.4x Earth gravity, the rate of deceleration is about 0.16x. Why do I keep over explaining and then preaching the choir lol :P

The issues your running into can be attributed to the fan having ultra high downforce, low rpm, and your running into the helicopter effect. Helicopters have a top speed through the air because they eventually get so fast that the leading edge of the rotor wings actually ends up with 0 forward speed relative to the air around it. This of course produces no lift… You are running into the opposite problem. You’re going fast enough to outpace the fan blades and accidentally create lift because it’s now acting as a wing. To fix this you need WAY more rpm. Probably closer to 3000rpm or maybe even more. That should also allow for much less lift to be used on the wing surfaces as you were using very very high lift to make up for the fact that you were using very low RPM. Also with high rpm you shouldn’t be able to get the car fast enough to accidentally create lift or lose downforce (this also explains the lack of pressure on some wheels) Lastly, to get rid of every bit of imbalance of pressure, you will need a second counter rotating fan so that left and right sides can be moving through the air at the same speeds no matter how fast your going.

I upped the fans to 9000rpm very quickly to reduce the car's speed having such an unbalanced effect, but still not great a counter rotating fan is something that'll come in the future though, but for now I just wanted to make a fun single fan car

Great idea. Would it make a difference to install two fans, spinning in opposite directions? Does beamng take the rotation forces into account? If yes, the fan would try to spin the car, like a rotor on a helicopter. Maybe you are missing the counterforce? Just a thougt. PS. I love your videos.

19:00 This is due to gyroscopic forces as well as rotational inertia and torque. You need a second fan that counter rotates to cancel both out. TBH, I would've started with two smaller fans side by side in the car, anyway, that way there's still room ahead of them for the driver.

I feel like this would be super ineffective irl, mostly because of aero dynamics. The fan would be putshong the fast moving air, into the slow moving air, which causes terbulence and probably adds a shight tonenof drag to the whole thing, further more the air from outside the fan would be geeting pushed i to part sof the fan and reducing the suction You probably already knew this however, but the reason they put the fan ont he back of the cars and not out the top is because there is a slipstream behind the vehicle, which the fan can potentially reduce by forcing air into it.

Hey fil, Google is dumb. Radians are really easy to convert to degrees, just divide by 180 and multiply by the constant pi That works because a full rotation (360 degrees) corresponds to (2 * pi) radians, 0 degrees is 0 rad, and both increase linearly. Radians are used because to get the length of the arc (perimeter) that corresponds to said angle you just have to multiply the angle in radians by the radius. It sounds like a mess, but with visuals it's a lot simpler to understand

I like lamp also I find it more frustrating that we can't find the angle of a wing without trigonometry, but that doesn't work if the car pitches for acceleration, flex, or downforce is stronger on the rear and it starts to lose efficiency because of the new pitch

I think the blades of the fan are spinning the wrong way. The visual element is upside down as far as I can tell. This would still produce downforce, but it would be around twice as efficient if put on the other way round.

I feel like with Beam's basic aero model fan car with actual fans will not work well, you will end up with a car with a lot of drag and you will suffer the "helicoter effect": one side creating more downforce than the other, the other creating lift if you go fast enough. And yes you could lower the drag value and ad a second rotor, but the earo is to crude to get good results.

It'd be a huge waste of time imo, the frame having such a large hole would be catastrophic for performance as there'd be no rigidity left in the chassis and it would eventually be destroyed as a consequence, plus the motor battery and ECU would be a NIGHTMARE to route around the fan gap. It'd have to be a FULLY custom project with absurd amounts of engineering, most likely requiring a tubular chassis just to be viable.

@@fillman86 I have no doubt they will continue for a long time but i also think if they finished the campaign and improved som other things like aerodynamics and tires. They are in my opinion basicly "done" or at the very least done enough for it to be a 1.0 But that could be done in like 10 updates (which won't be enough probably cause programming is hard and always takes longer than you think). But i don't see it taking a few decades to reach 1.0 maybe one

@@aladanorthey're doing what big franchises should learn to do. WAIT TO DO IT PROPERLY! They probably still want a bunch more vehicles in game, like an american supercar, maybe a new gen covet... Either way i know that the game will be absurdly different to how it is now when it eventually is done. They have a great base to build off of and i'm sure we've got some crazy stuff coming in the future, they barely started getting momentum a few years ago with development. I'm so glad they got to expand their team and seem to be doing great, i hope it stays like this.

Can I suggest an idea for next video, 2 driving modes similar to the amg one. Like when you change the mode, it lowers it and the wings comes up plus the front vents opens up. And standard mode which reverse it

the reason you were a bit slower is because you had a bit of valvetrain damage from overreving. Try adding a Ultra Heavy Duty Block or just lower the rpm limit and it should fix that

I know making an entire new model takes ages but I suggest making the McMurtry Spéirling. It's got an incredibly short wheelbase, It's electric and is super light for an electric car with a massive fan (It weights under 1,000 kg.) It's got a 0-60 of 1.4 seconds and at lower speeds it's way faster than Formula 1 cars. It did the Goodwood hill climb in 39.08 seconds (The previous record was 39.9 by the Volkswagen IDR.) The McLaren-Mercedes MP4/13 did it in 41.6 seconds. It's probably one of the most insane cars in the world up there with the W11, F2004 and 919 Evo.

since you're now on a downforce streak, how about you switch it up and make the Mercedes-Benz CLR GTR, and try and make it so it can flip depending on what angle of slope and if it's off the ground a bit?

just having 2 side by side would work best, but for packaging, longitudinal like an apache would probably work better
