At this Hydro powerhouse I worked at years ago some coworkers found a very large Brown trout floating dead on the lake surface . It had apparently struck at 4" block of wood of trimmed off the top of a fence post and sufficated after it got lodged in it's hooked jaws full of teeth . So the answer is yes .

guys this is a stocked pond. its not hard to catch bass in a stocked pond, im not saying it isnt good for this test but to feel bad because you cant catch bass when youre wacthing a guy catch some of the dumbest fish possible. i grew up with ponds all around me, ive walked around putting cigarette butts on hooks and catching bass. thats how dumb pond bass are. i put a dumb rubber minnow on with no action and caught a 23 in largemouth. ive also caught over 20" smallmouths in the river that arent that dumb. if youre having trouble and just want to catch bass. private pond, snelled hook, night crawler, or grasshopper. thats the combo.

And also with the turd lure idea, I once made a fly with a blob of gorilla glue on a small hook colored with a sharpie just to see if panfish would hit it, and they totally did. I called it a turd fly. It was about the size of a rabbit turd.

When the fish are on, they will bite anything and everything. I have hit bites where you couldn't get a bait back to the boat without a fish on. The trick is to get the fish to bite when they are not that interested. I was catching fish off everything I threw out in a little shallow bay once where I found some pike feeding on spawning perch and then the bite just ended. All of the sudden, instead of getting bites, I was getting follows and they would turn back as soon as I stopped cranking. I changed tactics and I found a bait with an action that I could induce a strike with, a suspending husky jerk that would twitch side to side when I popped it. I could get bites anywhere from when it hit the water to the end of the retrieve. That block of wood would have worked as well as anything else when they were biting, but when it turned, it took a specific action to get them to bite. The shape and color may not have mattered much, but the type of action was pretty specific. Photo realistic doesn't seem to matter, but sometimes lighter or darker is better depending on water conditions. The action seems to be one of the bigger factors. But the tools don't make the fisherman. There is no substitute for experience. If you can reliably find hungry fish, it makes everything else so much easier.

I was going for an Oak block 3.5" L x 1.5" x 1.5" but grabbed a piece of pine and cut same size as above and cut it down to a short lipped crank-bait just clear coated it added # 4 treble on belly & #6 on tail plus added just over 1/4 oz. of lead weight just behind belly, she swims or shimmies wagging her tail and dives around 18" - 24"depending on retrieval speed ! It actually pulls while diving about as hard as a Spinner bait with double #5 Colorado blades! Thanks So much! Love videos and Subscribed!

As a guy who fished as a kid with nothing but a stick, some string (not line), and a hook- "lured" with a termite from the old stump and a piece of grass for flare... Youre totally right. Ive never bought a lure in my life. I miss those days down at the "hideout" by the river. And yes, actually hooked some fishies. I nearly killed my mom a few times bringing home a string of fish, not understanding what a deadly fish allergy really means.

Hello Marlin baits, you should make a video were you use a triangle lure, it basically spins like a buzz bait but just the buzz, and then a trible hook at the end of it.

idk why i laughed so hard at “chunks of wood likes blocks of wood,it’s official” also i think they were biting the wood mainly because sometimes bass will do a aggression bite without really wanting to eat it,they just see things and if they dont like it the bite it,or they do want to eat it because for some reason the like eating wood lol
