@@whynot6530, that's outdated info. In more recent versions of the game player's velocity is correctly added to thrown objects (I've heard someone say, that it's since Java 1.10 - tho, I wasn't able to find it in any of the changelogs). Meaning, pearls thrown downwards while the player is falling do fall faster, instead of falling behind the player like in old versions. I've tested it myself in 1.15-1.17 and also in 1.8 - and it totally works in recent versions, while in 1.8 they indeed fall slower and you still die. Note, that it's critical that you throw a pearl when you're already getting somewhat close to the ground, cos if you're falling from great height and you throw a pearl very early in your fall, you still have the chance to accelerate enough to reach the ground before the pearl can (pearls seem to have a terminal velocity, unlike the player - or maybe their acceleration is lower for some reason). That said, it's still WAY easier to time than the water bucket. Be my guest and test in creative for yourself. I've saved myself countless of times with this and, IMO, pearls plus Feather Falling boots make MLG water obsolete, as no matter how good you are, there's always a chance to fail to place water, but pearls are very reliable (note, that I've only tested it in singleplayer and I dunno how reliable this is on servers with lag, but I guess lag equally makes it harder to MLG water, so). P.S. When fighting the Ender Dragon, if you get yeeted high in the air, for the very same reason you don't wanna throw a pearl down immediately when you get yeeted (if you're going up, your velocity will be not added, but substracted from the pearl's), but instead you wanna wait past the highest point in your trajectory and then some - to build downward speed before you throw it. P.S.S. I'm pretty sure the same physics is behind the Riptide pearl trick, when you launch yourself in the air with a trident (without elytra) at 45 degrees and immediately throw a pearl, adding your velocity to it and thus throwing it really far (teleports around 160-170 blocks, instead of normal ~55 blocks).
