Will I Still Be Able to Lucid Dream? (Starting an SSRI)

So I've recently been prescribed an SSRI antidepressant, and today I'm going to discuss how that may or may not end up affecting my lucid dreaming going forward. Will I still be able to lucid dream? I sure hope so, but it's possible that remembering dreams and lucid dreaming on SSRIs will be harder than it was for me before I was taking one.
So far I've been on it for 9 days at the time of making this video and I thought I'd share what I've experienced so far. I also plan to make a follow up video later down the line, letting you guys know how things have gone since and whether it's negatively impacted my lucid dreaming abilities or not.
PS if you have your own experience with lucid dreaming while taking SSRIs then I'd love to hear about it in the comments below. Was it more difficult? Easier? The same as before them?

I took Citalopram for 4 years and I still had vivid dreams. It did sometimes make my sleep erratic though. I'd have bouts of insomnia. I also found it didn't always work and a bad day meant I would take extra tablets. I stopped them because I don't like antidepressants. I stabilise my moods with herb supplements and a plant based diet. It's what worked for me. Everyone is different so I can't say if it would work for you.

Best of luck, man. Wise of you to look after your mental health, even if there is a possibility of it impacting your LDing. For what it's worth, doing a youtube channel when fighting anxiety is impressive, and I've always thought your presentation in videos seemed quite calm and confident; I never thought you came across as nervous or anything. Good job! I hope everything works out for the best.

I take Alprazolam for anxiety, but only as needed for it, sometimes I have a few lucid dreams but most the time they are boring, I mainly take melatonin to sleep, I only take the Xanex, when I need it, or couldn't fall asleep for a long time, mainly take the Xanex when I work Fright Fest as a scare actor at Six Flags Great America during mid Sep to October 31st, when I have to work till 11pm and get home around 12am or 12:30 am.

SSRIs have made my dreams a lot more vivid as well. In fact I stopped keeping a dream journal a while because writing my weird dreams down felt awkward sometimes. I still lucid dream though.

I take an SSRI and it makes me sleep longer, around 10 hours when I used to only need 8 hours. I think it's because I get less REM per unit of overall sleep so in order to get the same amount of REM I have to sleep longer. I still get the same amount of dreams and the same intensity of dreaming as before.

Hey tipharot, i’ve been following your channel since 2019 and have been trying to lucid dream since then, but i only started really taking it seriously 18 days ago, and i had my first lucid dream today with WILD!! The thing is i tried to touch stuff and rub my hands together but the dream was fading out so fast i hardly had time to look around me… Is this normal for first WILDs? How do i fix this?

Do those SSRIs have a noticeable positive effect for you? As far as I am aware, they benefit only a minority of patients, mostly those on the severe end of the depression scale. As they equally numb negative *and* positive feelings, they aren't what you want if if your depression is mild to moderate. I wonder if other pharmacological interventions such as with psilocybin (magic mushrooms) oder Ketamin are more lucid dreaming friendly. Have you tried any of those?

What do you make of companies like PropheticAI and their new Morpheus-1 model claiming to induce lucid dreams via ultrasound? Is it credible or just clever marketing?

I'm not really sure what to make of it yet, the last I heard about their project they hadn't yet claimed to have successfully induced any lucid dreams with their technology yet and it seemed they were still in the research phase. I can't speak to whether or not the science behind it is plausible or not, so I think we'll have to wait and see how their actual beta testing goes. It's an interesting approach at the very least though.
