If you didn't need a shrink before you begin driving over there, you'll need one after you do.

Johnny, I recommend you to consider this adventure on other way: you did not spend 4 days for nothing, you explored other side of Ukrainian life being unknown to you so far. That's life! I had to discover the Swiss hospital recently and it was unpleasant experience: unefficient and DAMMN expensive!

I will say after seeing this, it gives me a whole new appreciation for the american DMV and next time when I'm complaining about waiting for a few hours, I'll just remember Johnny having to spend 4 days in a Ukrainian hospital doing test after test, and say thank you to the DMV for being so efficient.

As a DMV employee in the US I can say that this process is genuinely crazy, yes we do have long waits and all those stereotypes but it’s nothing like this. Also there is a process that we have to do and it’s similar to the psychological exam is that we ask screening questions and we are trained to be super observant while asking and during the transaction. All in all super cool to see how it goes in other countries!

Hey Johnny, I have done dozens of these when I was in school and University and it is all looking very familiar, long lineups, going from one place to another. Kudos to you for finishing it, you were very patient. Congrats on getting the form. Also it is amazing to see how friendly and nice everyone is, speaking English to you, showing you how to get around, showing you where to go. Before they were not so friendly hahaha. Huge thank you to them. Also the medical center (poliklinika) is very nice, it is located in downtown area, so looks renovated and pretty new compared to the ones in other areas of Kyiv. Hi Johnny! With the large incidents of road rage in the United States, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have US drivers meet with a psychologist every so often.

From a lot of these videos it seems like Ukrainians are very friendly and chill. They don’t really mind that you’re filming and the people that work in those places seemed to easy going and to joke with you. It’s definitely now on my bucket list.

As a Ukrainian, I can tell you that even for me this is insane (what I have seen on this video). Also the process can vary in complexity in different cities, towns, hospitals etc. Basically, someone can get all medical tests much faster and easier in local autoschool (but more expensive). But Johnny went the bloody (literally) long way.

I feel like I could find my way around those buildings after watching this video. You were lucky to get an English speaking psychiatrist. Sounds like they wanted to see if you could stay sober for 72 hrs to confirm the psychiatrist findings.

I'm an American living in Russia. Never had my ears cleaned in the US. Had one ear get stopped up, my wife dragged me to a Doctor here and for a few rubles, I sat in the most intimidating chair I've ever seen, next to a glass display cabinet of what looked like hundreds of medieval torture devices... It was absolutely amazing though. Guess my ears hadn't been so clean since I was a child, lol.

I had to get a medical done for a pilot's license here in the USA. The whole procedure took less than an hour, including waiting. No blood tests, no psychiatrist exam. Just saw one physician and we were done. Good for 3 years.

It's strange to see queues, although I'm from Ukraine. It seems that the reform has bypassed Kyiv. We have an electronic queue in the west of Ukraine. Signed up. Came at the specified time. It's been a couple of minutes. Profit.

great episode Johnny...great way to see how the bureaucracy works in order to get a driver license in Ukraine. I had earwax clogged up my ears so much I couldn't hear properly. They tried with water at the doctors office, it didn't work. I instead bought an oily liquid at the drug store for the purpose. Had it in my ears for an hour. Flushed it out with water easily. A real relief

Ex Navy diver here. Spent a long time in waters all over the world and in the cold waters of Japan. It does not by itself give rise to excessive ear wax but constant exposure to cold water can cause excessive bone growth in ear canal called exostoses (surfers ear). That is something you may wish to have examined later.

When I was in Russia it was exactly the same, everything was painfully slow and inefficient. It reminds me of the days before computers, they do have computers but it's as if their computers have no network connection. Everything needs to be stamped 😩🤯

Increasing employment for petty bureaucrats and medical staff. It's just on a different level to your home country. Imagine all the hoops everyone jumps through to start a business, buy or rent property, open a bank account. In the UK it's called ' Jobsworth' - Jobsworth, Jobsworth, It's more than my job's worth, I don't care, rain or snow, whatever you want the answer's no, I can keep you waiting for hours in the queue, and if you don't like it you know what you can do.

Imagine I was 18 years old back in 1988 in Moscow went for a mandatory regular checkup and they imprisoned me in a chest infection hospital establised in 1804 for 1 year and 3 months..!!!!!!!! At the end of 15 months I learned the Russian language PERFECTLY, argued with the Director, cops came etc.. and got FREEDOM hahaha

Since a soviet times obtaining driver license was huge corruption stream- all those efforts +time +money spent on those exams could be replaced by single cash payment (bit higher in then official payments) As a Ukranian I was stunned how fast you could obtain driver license in US (medical test is in DMV office and its only vision test - :o) Unfortunately medical exams its just beginning - next theory of driving exam, with 160+ road signs and lot of crazy obsolete stuff. Good luck Jhonny and I wish that driver license videos could get in bigger media to bring attention to this problem, most people here in Ukraine don't realize how easy it could be(like those in a hospital queue)

I just bought my "B" driver license in Ukraine. I didn't even have to go anywhere in order to get one. All I did was just I handed over 285 American bucks to some guy who brought both the driver license & exam certificate to me a couple days later. I've never ever used that driver license in Ukraine since then though.

In Germany you need to do a first aid course and an eye test. After that you can do the theoretical exam and the practical exam.

I got my drivers license in Ontario Canada in the 1970s. When I moved to Belgium in 2000, I was not allowed to exchange my Ontario Canada drivers license for a Belgian one because there was no bilateral agreement in place at that time (Yanks could simply exchange licenses). So, my only option was to take 12 hrs of drivers lessons from an official driving school (I had already been driving in Canada for 20 yrs!), take a written test on rules of the road, and take a driving test with a Belgian tester (both had to be done in French or Flemish, I did mine in French). I passed the tests and was issued a Belgian drivers license which is permanent and NEVER expires. I still have it 21 yrs later.... now live in Spain and still use it.

Wow. An American is experiencing soviet bureaucracy! Form 083/o was invented in Soviet Union and still exists in many post soviet countries! The real torture. People usually don't go to state clinics for that but go to private ones where you get this form within 1 hour or less

Man I went to a mouth nose and ear doctor once here in Prague. He was checking my ears and said AHH, WAIT HERE MY PATIENT! He wheeled over this cart with some steel platters on it. Went to one hear and stuck this metal Probe down it deep and pulled our some pieces of ear wax. Then he went to the other ear and told me" I HAVE A NICE SURPRISE FOR YOU"!!! Stuck that probe down so deep started scraping away was so deep the back of my throat was itching then PLOP was like opening the cork off the wine bottle he threw down this slug alien which was huge and shinny black had hair in it too was the grossest thing i've seen in my life I screamed in terror while he was laughing. It was fing Knarly wow! He said it was at least 40 years of my life. That day I left his office I'll never forget as to how well I could hear out of that ear,. It was like a bionic ear Steve Austin 6 million dollar man i could humm that song. Felt so light in that ear! It's been 8 years might be time for another visit.

WOW. I'm an older, getting blind, been in accidents and all I have to do is log on line and pay. I can relate to that system (I shouldn't be driving).

That's unreal. When I lived in Germany my US drive license got me an international license (thru AAA) which was accepted. I did manage to get a ticket via camera though.

I'm a big fan of yours now, after seeing you in one of the Bolds videos. :) On a side note, you don't need to get that medical certificate every three years. Once you get a driving license, you won't need to do anything until the driving licence expires (it's valid for 50 years). Update: actually, I just looked it up and found that in Ukraine, we do need to get a medical cert once in 10 years for anyone < 55 years, once in 3 years for anyone between 55 and 75 years, once in a year for poor 75+ guys.

Had my ears cleaned by Dr. once and he pumped a syringe full of water and peroxide into my ears and then sucked the stuff out , it was really nasty looking stuff in the pan but no pain or anything . Amazing how well i could hear afterwards .

There's no bureaucracy in Ukraine - it's called corruption. Normally people just buy(bribe) any document they need(price is chipper than your time). There's other option - go to private medical organizations. They have modern processes and compete in the world medical tourism market. Otherwise you'll have to waste your time on low salary workers in soviet buildings - it's mostly for those who don't have money and enjoy conversations in queues...

Hi Johnny, in answer to your ear wax question, my doctor explained that most people's ear canals form to be "self cleaning" when we wash. But some people's ear canals are not formed that way. So wax can build up. The doctor has cleaned mine a few times over the years by squirting warm water in with sustained gentle pressure from a big syringe-type cylinder while you hold a cup under your ear and possibly needing to pull out loosened pieces with a tiny scoop between syringes. Takes a few minutes. Works great. That said, since I began showering instead of bathing, I've not had any wax build up at all! P.S. the doctor also said, "NEVER use those cotton-tipped swabs to remove wax because they are more likely to pack it in instead." Hope that helps.

Somehow I think "B n B" had a premonition of what you had to endure, but following the Babuskas nurses up and down the stairs made it a whole lot better.

I suppose one way to look at it is their system provides employment for plenty of people. And, you got to follow that awesome nurse around for several days, you can't complain about that!

My mom has to have her ears professionally cleaned about once every three years. Some people build up ear wax others don’t.

HOLA Johnny, Here Panama's step is a blood test, a psych test at a doctor's office, inside the Transito building is a multiple-choice written exam, 10 road questions in Spanish, eye, color, and a hearing machine test. Depending on the lines total time consumed is about 1-2 hours. Renewal is every five years if under 70 yrs., over 70 every two years. Uber and a bike the Ukraine would be mine transportation including turkey and other locations.

BTW. If you paid a bribe your video would be 5mins long and boring but you went official way and now we all are enjoying this nearly 1 hour adventure

Use the stick part of a bic pen cap to clean your ears. It scoops out the wax instead of compacting it which a q-tip does.

Every one at different stages seemed so nice and helpful. They all wanted to help Johnny. . What Johnny does not know is that everyone in those buildings are a part of his psychological and physical tests, every time Johnny went somewhere staff were recording and reporting their impressions of Johnny to the medical board. They would report something like this. "Yes, he was able to keep up with the cute nurse on the steps and seemed to be able t walk last and then sit when instructed to sit", or on the Ukrainian bureaucracy test, they would report "he s capable of keeping up with the bureaucracy without complaining too much - like most Ukrainians"; at each step Johnny would self a reward by coffee, fruits and water... At the end Johnny gets the biggest happy stamp, now he can go and drive in the polluted air and suffer like the rest of the people since there is no SMOG tests for vehicles and everyone has the freedom to pollute as much as they want! I wish our politicians would get the Ear Wax tests.

My 76 yr old dad has to get his ears cleaned like that, once a year. He has been doing it for about 25yrs now. But try those beeswax ear candles. Seriously. . They actually really do work really really good.
