got mine for free!! It was a 1990 zx11........Crank Bearing was shot.......the bike came with a Spare Bottom End from a 2001 zx11. So I basically dropped the motor, swapped all my 1990 Heads and everything onto the 2001 Bottom, and it worked first try! Literally everything swapped over with No modifications......only thing was Ignition wires needed to be extended(2 wires), that's it. Yeah it was definitely a pain in the ass Lifting the motor back into the Frame.....it's sort of a weird balancing act, and you need a Really low profile floor Jack.....but once you play around and see how it lines up, it's pretty easy.

I never doubted you guys would get this bad boy running. Awesome work chaps. Sounds great and once balanced, will purr. Really appreciate the fact that you always take us through the gremlins (as painful as they are - especially the electrical shenanigans) because nobody ever starts their rebuilt bike first time. Excellent tip about the intake boot air leak diagnosis too. - Keep up the great work mate.

Good diagnosis and sorting out niggly little "issues"! It's running lean because A) you have a manifold air leak B) you have no air filter fitted, get the leak sorted and balance the carbs and set the mixture screws. Run a compression test on a cold motor just as a datum and button it all back together before you send it to the dyno where you'll be able to fine tune any carburation issues. Have to say, Jamie has been the calm one, while you've been brickin it 🤣 He deserves a drink and a blast, though not necessarily in that order 🤣🤣🙄😏
@QuickBikes
@QuickBikes 2 жыл бұрын
There's still some fettling to do as you say, but I should be able to get most of it sorted with only a few final tweaks to jetting etc on the dyno. Jamie has done quite a few engines now so he's an old hand at this, whereas I'm still learning. It's great just being able to pick his brains whilst we've been working on the bike though. I've learned quite a bit now 😁👍

Can i suggest you drop the sump after an hour or so's running. Who knows what bits of grit have fallen in. They will get caught in the sump baffle plating and not get pulled out with the oil. Did this on my Z500 when i rebuilt the top end only in 1983, was surprised how much road dirt/grit ended up in the motor from the barrel studs etc even though i was careful when stripped and stood. Also have a look in the old oil filter's paper element and the new one while your at it and see what it has trapped. Good work.

Having owned most of the Kawasaki range at one time or another I'd stick the colour tune on it. If nothing else it would shut that clutch up.
@QuickBikes
@QuickBikes 2 жыл бұрын
It all still needs fettling for sure. So far this week I've had the carbs off to fix the air leak and install the cables, tomorrow I'll be balancing the carbs and Tey getting it to run a little better, then I'll hook up the clutch and bleed it so it can be operated. I'm hoping it just needs a few operations to settle down a bit or I'll be making another tensioner for it. The colour tune only really sets the mixture at idle and I think we're way lean on the jetting at the moment, but a dyno run and AFR chart should help us get the jetting right 😁👍
