CD Video is a combination audio and video CD. Each disc had up to 185 MB PLUS 5 minutes of Laserdisc video. You can tell a CDVideo by the play side having 2 different looking burn sections. It was mostly used to put 3 or 4 tracks from an artist, then include a single music video. It only lasted 3-ish years.

Kudos on grabbing a $10 working player! That is an entry-level Pioneer, but the cool thing is that it was made in the mid-90s and both that model and the CLD-S201 have a relatively pure composite video signal that isn't messed around with digitally. On the downside, you get some more video noise, but that's always something you can fix with noise reduction somewhere else along the signal chain. That's probably very mild laser rot on that Home Alone 2 disc. And yeah, CDV was a hybrid CD/LD technology that started as 5" CD singles with a few tracks of audio and then a video track. There are a bunch of 12" discs with that logo too, but all it means is that they have a digital audio track - otherwise they're still normal laserdiscs. VCDs won't play in any of the North America-marketed players I've seen, though I think some of the DVD/LD combo units can play them with the DVD laser.

You need a remote (available cheap) to get a display for CD. It's wonderful - takes up full screen with track numbers, etc., and a few switchable modes for more info. I don't watch many laserdiscs, but I use this as my primary CD player.

You got very lucky...these are almost always broken...I bought this same model brand new in 1996 for $300.00 bucks, it worked great for years until it finally blew a fuse or something and wouldn't turn on anymore.

Hey buddy....those things that look like little scratches when the LD was playing, is probably a bit of disc rot, I reckon.
