I'm a big fan of these because even though I watch the stream, sometimes I want to re-listen to a specific part or idea, but cannot find it, so this is very helpful. I think that Melisandre will both "die" and resurrect Jon as the wall falls. During the burning of Rattleshirt disguised as Mance, Melisandre was almost consumed by the magic power created by the sacrifice of a king and the wierwood given to the Free Folk: "When the flames had licked at Rattleshirt, the ruby at her throat had grown so hot that she had feared her own flesh might start to smoke and blacken." Since Jon and Mance are both leaders of the Free Folk, they are parallel. If the Wall is built on top of weirwoods, then they are also parallel. If Jon's body is put on a pyre somehow, it may harken back to the burning of Rattleshirt/Mance, with both the weirwood-wall falling and a leader of the Free Folk burning. The only difference is that Jon will not be there to put a stop to the magic, and most likely Melisandre will be consumed by the flames. It would also be interesting if Melisandre didn't really intend to resurrect Jon when she lit the pyre, but then, like Dany retrieving her dragon's from Drogo's pyre, was compelled to walk into the flames by a sort of epiphany.

I tend to think the wildlings will take control of castle black, burn mel because she's a witch, burn jon so he doesn't rise, and burn Shireen because of her grayscale. Jon won't burn because he's Targaryen but will be the dragon reborn from the little stone girl, and will lose nothing of himself due to ghost.

I hope Lady Stoneheart has something to do with helping Jon in some way. It's the least she could do, and would give her a form of redemption for the way she treated him, and a neat little character arc.

Had a thought, If Mel is bleeding black blood from her ‘nether regions’ (lol) then couldn’t that also be another foreshadowing of her being ready to make a shadow baby, by showing us her magical fertility? Also, like you say, Mel & Dany are the most nissa-like characters and have the whole alchemical wedding thing in common, with the talk of Mel having another (or plenty) of shadow babies in the future, could this also be a hint to Danys fertility as she is most likely miscarrying at the end of ADWD 🤔

If Mel is Nissa Nissa and Jon is Azor Ahai, then making Lightbringer by plunging his sword into her chest would fit with him executing her (possibly for burning Shireen). And she would do so willingly because (she believes) it would complete his destiny to become the Prince that was Promised who will save the world (whether she's right or not).

Do you think Melisandre's deception of killing Rattleshirt in place of Mance Rayder signifies any kind of internal shift of allegiance? She is deliberately deceiving Stannis and all his men as well as going against his orders to sacrifice Mance Rayder for the blessing of his Kingsblood. I think this signifies a lot about her own internal beliefs and thought process. When she does this maybe she no longer believes that Stannis is Azor Ahai reborn, and maybe she has lost faith in his cause. This could be foreshadowing for her sacrificing Shireen to save Jon. What do you think??

I'm ngl I thought this channel was click bait at first. But you know your stuff and I'm binging everything. I never even thought of Jon being the Nights King or any of this stuff. It all makes me want to re-read the books for the umpteenth time.

I wonder if the "fire inside" is more literal. Maybe the Red Priests know how to control a small firewyrm parasite inside them. They could be similar to the ones Aerea had only smaller. Maybe that is what's traces patterns of heat on her skin.

I'd bet my right arm that the "oshit" moment involving Shireen will also feature heavily in Jons ressurection/purification in TWOW. Maybe that's too dark even for ASOIAF.

Really enjoyed this one. I’ve long theorised that Mel will play the Mirri Maz Duur role in Jon’s pyre, but I have thought Mel will be burning Shireen on the same pyre and it will be Patchface who physically throws her into the fire. Remember, the last thing Mel heard was the Pink Letter which said Stannis was dead. She’s gonna want to do some powerful sh*t to test that revelation. So Shireen gives the ‘stone’ in waking the dragon (always a person, always mistaken for a beastie…). Mel won’t have seen Patch’s intention to do her harm, because, well, he only thought it at the time he saw it happening. She did, however, see skulls about him and know he’s dangerous.

I ordered one of those fancy carved meditation alters and ordered some nice things to set on top of it, including sage, a singing bowl, one of those brass looking incense things with a lid and holes. I could not for the life of me figure out how to ding the dang bowl. I was running the wooden mallet around the inside of it like you, but wasn't banging the side of it. Fail. 😬

There's a specific quote in Melisandre's first chapter that makes me laugh, just because I think it shows Melisandre's human self. Which, is interesting considering this is the time we hear about Mel's past and as well as how she's transmuting her old self into the fire self. It's this quote here. "As they walked beneath the Wall, she slipped her arm through his. Morgan and Merrel went before them, Ghost came prowling at their heels. The priestess did not speak, but she slowed her pace deliberately, and where she walked the ice began to drip. He will not fail to notice that." The last sentence is Mel's inner thoughts, her own inner justifying of her fire prowess. 😄

Can I just point out that Grrm is a Robin Hobb fan? Slight spoilers for assassins apprentice series. Something very similar happens in those books, like what happens to John. A characters soul escapes his human body and enters a wolf, only for it to eventually return to his corpse. On his return he is more savage and wolffish and must learn to be human again. I imagine something similar happening to John.

Interesting theory. Melisandre is one of the most mysterious characters in the books. I might reread the books to refresh my memories. I don't know how long until The Winds of Winter comes out but I may have enough time to go through all books. It's just that I am reading other stuff but maybe it will be a slow read.

Luke has a blue lightsaber the first two movies. Until Vader cuts his hand off and it falls down that tunnel with the lightsaber. Then he gets a new lightsaber and it's green. Also, I have a bad feeling Shireen is going to be a part of Jon's resurrection. She will play the Mirri Mazzdur part. I hope not, but probably.

I'm not sure Jon Snow's resurrection will be Melisandre's last act. I think we will see another shadow baby, this time with Jon. Roose Bolton sends out the Freys to attack Stannis. Stannis tricks the Freys onto the ice lake (the Night Lamp). Ramsey wants to attack, but Roose overrules, staying in the safety of Winterfell. Melisandre and newly resurrected Jon arrive, check out the situation. They do the deed and create a shadow baby that kills Roose. Wirh Roose gone, no one can control Ramsey, who then leads the Boltons against Stannis and Jon's army, but is beaten by Stannis' tactical nous and Jon's direwolf savagery. Not sure about the symbolism, but I think it fits narratively with seeding concepts (i.e., Beric and Lady Stoneheart revivals preparing us for Jon's) means we will see another shadow baby.

Interesting theory, have you heard of a similar one saying that the reason Mel might be so old, eats nothing and sleeps little is because she's already a fire wight? It would explain how she might pull a Beric to ressurect Jon Snow

I completely go with Mel playing a NissaNissa role. But I am not sure Jon will become some sort of Fire White. But Mel will certainly be some sort of fire-figure.

Wasn’t sure if you seen this- Quelaag who is an Elden Ring content creator mentioned an interview that sounded recent with GRRM. He basically says the Elden Ring world he made and then FromSoft (game developer) job was to destroy it , trigger the apocalypse. Hey, haven't finished the video yet, but I just thought of a wacky theory. If it's mentioned in this video, then whoops. What if, just as you stated in the beginning, Mel walks into the pyre, and resurrects Jon, but doesn't sacrifice Shereen. Instead, a newly resurrected Jon, all dark and shit, sacrifices her instead, to clear the snow on the way to Winterfell, or for more power. Because they are under the impression Stannis lost. They arrive, and Stannis is alive, and now they fight with each other because Stannis finds out Jon burnt his daughter. So Jon ends up taking the castle and killing Stannis. Okay, i fucking hate this, as I wrote it out, but chuckle along with this nonsense.
