Will My AV Receiver Update to the New IMAX Enhanced dtsX Profile 2 for Disney+? Can AV Receivers be updated through firmware to handle IMAX Enhanced dtsX for Disney+? Do I need to replace my AV Receiver?
The Simple answer to this video's title is Yes. This provides an update from the previous video after getting some confirmation from Onkyo/Integra. It is simply a matter of firmware updating. Whether or not your current receiver is ready for it, is a matter of whether or not that firmware has been released, but it will be eventually.
Once your AV Receiver is ready to go, you will still need to wait for your source player to update the Disney+ app to include IMAX Enhanced DTS:X Profile 2 version Disney+ uses, if your source player has yet to do that. Many TV's need to update, as well as streaming players like ROKU, Nvidia Shield, AppleTV 4K, and Amazon FireStick.
Do I need a New AV Receiver? Probably not. At least, just don't upgrade because of dtsX profile 2 spec. There are other reasons to replace your receiver, but this isn't one of them.
