Serbian guy here, I am still sad about last year MVP, he would be unicorn like Bird, Wilt and Russel with 3 in a row. I think Luka should've got it this year, and this was more "WE ARE SORRY JOKER FOR LAST YEAR, WE DID MISTAKE, HERE YOU GO". Anyway, I think Nikola is now in that group where rings matter the most. So fingers crossed that somehow Denver gets stronger bench next year and he can get at least one more chip. It would be amazing for us from Europe to have a top10 player in history, cause a lot of them are cruising like from 15-25th place on all time list. Cheers

@@stefkoblHe will get swept and exposed in due time by MN. Barely plays any defense and will continue to rely on his supporting cast to pull through whereas Lebron would single-handedly will his team to the Finals -- on offense and defense -- but gets hated on. His title run with the Nuggets has closed already. Put any other All-Star player in place of Jokic and they also can win multiple MVP's dishing to that line-up. But, conversely, shut down that line-up and Jokic shuts down too unlike Steph, Bron, etc.,.

@@ConsciousBreaks his stats aren’t better than luka though… shai averaged more points on a better seeded team. Jokic didn’t lead the nba in any major statistic and wasn’t on the best team. It’s just odd that now they are changing the criteria in order to give it to jokic every year. Shaq is making the point that winning an mvp used to make it harder to win another one but now it makes it easier for some reason. Keep in mind shaq only has one mvp and so does Kobe. You’re telling me that jokic is more valuable than those guys and is equal to magic and bird? Doesn’t make sense to me.
@ConsciousBreaks
@ConsciousBreaks 13 күн бұрын
@@calebconver2188 To me, neither the "best player on the best team" nor "baddest" player criteria should be what determines MVP. I have a similar view to JJ Redick: we need to weigh team success as well as individual stats/greatness (60/40 is what JJ proposed). I think we can all agree that one of the most important metrics for value is actually winning. We all know that you can pad stats on bad teams, so we can't simply say who has the best stats. Can a player actually be "most valuable" if their stats don't translate to actually winning? In what sense are they valuable, then? On the other hand, we can't just say the best player on the best team because it's not fair if you just happen to have better teammates. As for SGA and Jokic, they have the same team record. The only difference is via the tiebreaker, so that's virtually irrelevant. Jokic's individual greatness and stats IMO exceeds SGA's (more assists, way more rebounds, leads the league in TS% for players with 20+PPG). As for Luka, he has much better stats than SGA, at slightly worse efficiency (quite a few more turnovers too), but it hasn't translated to the same level of team success. This one could go either way.
@calebconver2188
@calebconver2188 13 күн бұрын
@@ConsciousBreaks yea I understand your point from an idealistic perspective however there is precedent that needs to be factored in also. The precedent is that if a player has already won an mvp and it’s a close race then the award goes to someone that hasn’t won it yet. It was the same with shaq and Kobe and lebron and jordan. Now that jokic has 3 mvps he has equaled magic and bird yet in all time rankings he isn’t even close to top 10. If he actually plays even better next year and wins 4 now he’s tied with lebron. It devalues the importance of the award in terms of its value in assessing a players greatness when someone who isn’t top ten all time has as many as guys that are on the Mount Rushmore of the game.
@ConsciousBreaks
@ConsciousBreaks 13 күн бұрын
@@calebconver2188 I definitely disagree with that, on both fronts. First, I'm of the opinion that it's better late than never. Just because something was broken in the past doesn't mean we have to keep doing so. The NBA used to not record blocks and steals, so does that mean they should've kept doing so? (It's unfortunate because Wilt would've had so many more records and would easily be the all time triple double leader by a huge margin.) Side note: it's hard to say Shaq/Kobe should've had more than 2 MVPs each with my criteria, given teams' records and other players hitting their prime at the same time like Duncan, and Lebron. Second, it doesn't make sense to gatekeep MVPs because he's not top 10. Part of the reason those people are in the top 10 to begin with is precisely because they won MVPs, so the argument is somewhat circular. Besides, as time goes on, it's going to become harder and harder to break into the top 10 (look at Curry, people are only now *sometimes* putting him in the top 10). If that's the case, then that means we're going to reach a point where no one should ever win 3 MVPs anymore. Moses Malone has 3 MVPs and I think most would agree that Jokic is at least on par with him all time, which means he will easily surpass him when all's said and done.

Even if Jokic score 30 point triple double average next season he will not win mvp.They will not give him more.Denver is small market, they wont to spent extra money for the bench players so it will be hard to take 1 more title.

Dan focused on the stat stuffer comment the whole video and was completely wrong about the intent of what Shaq was saying. He was saying stat stuffing as a positive for Shai.

I like Shaq but he failed on this one. But this is America... Shaq loves Nikola and expresses that to Nikola but behind he is like I do not agree... Nikola is system. I do not like how Nikola and Nuggets are playing Wolves, and they suck... but you can't say Nikola is not an MVP doing everything for his team and for years. And by the way Nikola should won last year. Just enjoy Nikola's moves while he is still interested in BB... Nikola is a super star and cool easy going brother... Stop chasing youtube clicks with bullshit statements...

The MVP is a joke. A subjective award which can be influenced by a two-bit analyst in Perkins claiming racial bias. It's all about narrative. Giving Barkley. Mvp during Jordan's domination era smacks of consolation prize.

Shaq’s case was you SHOULD be a stat stuffer to win MVP. You’re making Shaq’s point…
@KClouisville
@KClouisville 13 күн бұрын
It's not a good "point" though. Aside from points and steals, Jokic smokes SGA in almost every other category (and is more efficient when it comes to points). Shaq was suggesting that SGA had the overall better stats...which he doesn't....then he pivoted to team wins...which were the same. He was just being a salty, narcissistic dick.

Mvp should be about personal offensive stats, personal defensive stats, and winningness during the regular season. That is it. There is no other objective and fair criteria. And i feel like usually that is how the voters vote . Shai stats did not come close to the joker. Joker dominated assist, points, and rebounds.
@MarkoStojanovic
@MarkoStojanovic 12 күн бұрын
if we listen to the people who are actual voters.many mvps coming Jokic way .bcs what those voters value the most at this time Jokic dominate like no other.he beats MJ STATS easy.so we will see if the NBA executives dont change the route ore rules Jokic will win almost every year.
